Haircloud
Hello everyone, I've been checking out this site for 2 years and wanted to thank everyone for the great info lots of facts, tips and opinions. I had a few consultations and one doctor actually said no after I paid and went in for surgery that morning. My donor area is very thin and my hair from my donor is not enough and fragile. I appreciate his honesty. Can I use body hair only for a hairtransplant and for my hairline (noticed doctors do not like that). I prefer to have my body and beard hair, it's very thick, course and I have more then plenty of it. Hair line is receding 3-4 inches and I have diffuse thinning, black hair and a weak donor area. Senior Member pkipling Posted July 28, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) Unfortunately, I don't think this would be a good idea - and there's a reason most surgeons would tell you no. Body and beard hair is best used in the crown to provide density, and it would most likely look really strange and unnatural to have your hairline made with body/beard hair. I don't know the specifics of your case, but based on the information you've given and the fact that you've already been turned away the day of surgery due to lack of donor hair, it doesn't seem like you would be the best candidate for a hair transplant. I'm sure you could shop around until someone agreed to do it, but that doesn't mean that you should. And the last thing you want to do is to have a hair transplant against the wishes of reputable surgeons only to have it be unsuccessful/unsatisfactory and you're then left with scars on your head and no way to cover them up. I would proceed with serious caution as you move forward. As much as losing your hair hurts and as much distress it causes, I'm afraid being left with a scarred scalp and an unsuccessful hair transplant would hurt even worse. In an ideal world, every man with MPB would be a good candidate for a hair transplant, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Some guys simply aren't good candidates. Have you tried buzzing your head completely to see how you like that look for yourself? Or have you looked into hair systems as an alternative? The important thing to strive for is to make the best decision possible for yourself based on the reality of the situation and your specific circumstances - whatever those may be. And of course, I wish you nothing but the best as you figure all of this out for yourself. Edited August 4, 2016 by pkipling I am a patient advocate for Dr. Parsa Mohebi in Los Angeles, CA. Haircloud
pkipling, thank you for the reply. Thats not what i want to hear but i am facing the truth and trying to learn to accept it. What you are saying is correct and wise. Im still in these stages of grief. Would body hair still be strange if i keep my hair short like a #3-4 ? My situation sucks and figured the only other options are body hair (which may not be wise for a hairline) or SMP.
Senior Member Mikey1970 Posted July 28, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted July 28, 2016 IF you are going to consider BHT make sure you select your surgeon very carefully. As far as I know I think there are only a handful of surgeons in the world that have good success with this. I had a procedure a month ago with a surgeon that invented it & actually placed beard hair into my strip scar for repair. I know he has had good results with Norwood 6/7's so it is not impossible. It would be expensive however and you would have to be willing to travel.
Senior Member Transhair Posted July 28, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted July 28, 2016 You could transplant body/facial closer to the hairline, but I really don't think any more than a small amount to 'fill the gaps' would be a good idea. You definitely want the first cm to be all normal head hair at the very least.
Haircloud
I know a couple doctors who have a good rep for bht Dr.umar and Dr.Bhatti. I prefer to stay in America is there any other known bht specialist doctors ? Dr.umar seems promising but that is some serious money.
Senior Member Mikey1970 Posted July 28, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted July 28, 2016 If you go with a cheaper/lesser Dr & get a bad result - the saved $$$ will be the last thing on your mind. I hope you never experience the pain of a bad HT. Surgeon selection is crucial and the good ones cost $$$$$.
Haircloud
Yes I agree some things money should not be a factor especially in this scenario because it will cost more to repair a botched ht.
Senior Member gillenator Posted July 29, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted July 29, 2016 BH is really hit and miss both in terms of visual compatibility but also in terms of yield. BH also has very different growth cycles as compared to scalp hair. If you must have hair and full scalp coverage, have you considered a high quality hair system? Some of them are decent but again, you get what you pay for. Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic. Regular Member Qneedhair Posted July 31, 2016 Regular Member Share Posted July 31, 2016 I think when body hair is transplanted to the head, it only looks good when it is clipped short all over when completed. Body hair is different and will not grow to the length as normal scalp hair. If you don't mind the buzz cut look...this might work, just inquire with a specialist that does body to scalp transplants. Senior Member MrGio-WHTCClinic Posted August 1, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted August 1, 2016 With diffuse thinning, you need a thorough examination of your entire body. Seek out an experienced hair restoration physician with experience and expertise in body hair transplantation. The expert will need to determine the type and cause of your current hair loss and situation. Body hair can be an alternative donor resource, but the limitations can often be mistaken by some individuals who seek the benefits it can offer. Everyone who experiences hair loss must manage goals. I hope you find the best treatment. My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch. Senior Member pkipling Posted August 4, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted August 4, 2016 I would keep my hair short and probably with smp to give a fuller illusion. Thanks guys What doctors do you guys recomened ? I found this thread for you that may be helpful. You can also search "body hair" (choosing "Titles Only") in the search section of the forum to see if anything else pops up. Again, I would still encourage you to give careful consideration to trying a buzz cut of some sort and seeing how that works for you. There's a reason there aren't many doctors doing BHT, and that's because it's relatively new and not as dependable at the moment. There's always a risk with any procedure/HT, but with BHT the risks are even greater. I know the thought of a hair system probably also sounds horrifying because we immediately think WIG , but the truth is that just as technology in hair restoration has advanced, so has the technology in the hair system world. You may have more options than you think. But seriously - think about sporting the buzz look for a bit and giving it a trial run. Best case scenario, it's a look you can feel good about and save yourself from any potential heartache. Having poor results and an unsuccessful hair transplant is not something I would wish on anyone, and while there's a chance you could have success, it doesn't sound like you're the most ideal candidate.
