Regular Member TR3B Posted December 22, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted December 22, 2015 I was booked to fly out on the 2nd January for my HT in Ankara and return home on the 5th and I've had to cancel due to family problems but the booking process left a sour taste in my mouth. I forwarded my flight plan to the foreign patients manager asking if they looked okay and got an email back shortly afterwards saying the flights were okay and to go ahead and book them. I booked the flights and an hour later received an email saying she had made a mistake and could I alter my flight to come home a day later, I called Turkish airlines but they have a strict no change policy on the flight. The reason it wasn't an ideal flight was because I would be arriving on the Saturday night and the clinic was closed on the Sunday so I wouldn't be having my transplant til the Monday and my return flight was 9am on Tuesday 5th January. The Patients manager assured me it would be fine but when I pushed and asked her if they were going to open the clinic for me on the Sunday she said no they would just work in the time scale they had, which would have me going in to the clinic at 6:30 on the morning I leave to have my bandage removed and head washing. As the airport is a 40 minute drive from the clinic and my flight at 9am I felt this was less than ideal and I would be rushed around for no other reason than error on their part I should also add I paid 600gbp for flights for me and my father I plan on re scheduling on a later date but should alarm bells be ringing? Any thoughts?

I asked the question about Dr involvement and received this. Dr Civas is present throughout the surgery. He is responsible for: Preparing the patient for surgery, anesthesia administration Preparing the donor area for extraction and supervision of extraction process Making the incision sites Implantation of grafts in the critical areas Edited December 22, 2015 by TR3B

To what extent that is though , it's hard to say - it's rather vague. The clinic does post some decent results though .
Regular Member TR3B Posted December 22, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 22, 2015 The fact he does take part in all aspects of the procedure to some extent can only be a good thing,
Senior Member Garageland Posted December 22, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted December 22, 2015 To be fair to the clinic they emailed you admitting they had made a mistake and asking you whether you could stay another day and they were prepared to work with you and see you at 6.30am the following morning for a check up before you left for your flight. Ultimately you cancelled the appointment due to personal reasons which is understandable but it was not the clinic that left you out of pocket with the flight costs. I don't see anything from what you have said that should cause alarm bells to ring. If you do reschedule with them I would recommend staying local to the clinic for a few days post op if you can. Regular Member MH26 Posted December 23, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted December 23, 2015 Hey TR... sorry to hear about your situation. Having gone through a HT at his clinic last week, I can tell you Dr. Civas is very involved in the entire process. Yes, there is a lot of labor involved that he doesn't do all by himself... but he does have experienced technicians that have been with him for over a decade. I'm positive I was the only one getting a HT done that day and at one point when I started to feel a little pain, he was in the room applying anesthesia in less than 30 seconds. He is very hands on and his professionalism is top-shelf. Hope that helps.
