ChewyFUE
Hi all, My first post here. I've attached some pictures and want to know whether it's normal. Please educate me! - 2000 grafts in the frontal area - FUE, 8 hour session - Currently 6 weeks post op but have lost more hair than I originally started with - There has been some annoying itches here and there in one particular area...usually scratch it with a comb - Redness is fading away slowly - Not much signs of new hair growth but I read it 'starts' after 3 months post op I attached photos of my pre op temple and frontal area which is the recipient site....as well as post op first 8 days, and the last 3 being on week 6. 1. Is it normal that I lose all that hair? (hairline actually looked great after I removed the scab on day 9 and 10 but all the grafts came off already) 2. I don't see a lot of hair 'holes' - is this normal? 3. What's the best way to conceal this? Buzzing? Toppik/Caboki? Leaving hair long? (There's contrast between the front area and my crown) 4. Is it normal to still have itch in specific areas (this one pimple looking like thing is extremely itchy at night time) Thanks - A Paranoid HT patient
Senior Member pkipling Posted October 22, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 Everything you described sounds perfectly normal to me. It's common for things to appear to get worse before they get better, and you shouldn't even be expecting to see any new growth at all for a couple more months now. (Month 3 being the absolute earliest you should expect anything.) I had the itchiness and the redness and the occasional pimple at this time as well, so no need to be paranoid. As far as the best way to conceal it at the moment - that depends on who you ask. Some guys take the "let your native hair grow out and cover up the transplanted area" approach. If you have experience with Toppik, that's something you could try as well, though I would be concerned about it irritating the skin/making it itch. (I've never used Toppik, so this may not even be a concern... Someone with more Toppik experience could confirm with you if it's a good option or not.) I personally kept my hair completely buzzed throughout the first 3 months and let it all start growing back in at the time I was expecting/hoping for the new grafts to start growing. It worked out well for me. By 6 weeks, the redness mostly looked like a mild sunburn on me anyway, so it didn't raise too many questions. Also - regarding the itching. I would try the "patting" technique on the itchy area instead of scratching it with a comb. I feel like that's better for the skin and a more longterm effective way to battle the itchiness. Senior Member JohnCasper Posted October 22, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 Everything you mentioned sounds quite normal "Chewy". The redness will continue to fade and you will have plenty of itching taking place. Be gentle with that although at this point you won't do any damage to the grafts. Be patient if you don't see growth after 3 months. My first surgery showed growth after 2 months but my second was delayed. It really started filling in about 4 months after the second surgery. Best of luck and remember...be patient. I am an online representative for Carolina Hair Surgery & Dr. Mike Vories (Recommended on the Hair Transplant Network). Senior Member JohnCasper Posted October 22, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 Just wait until folks start telling you how much younger you look. ChewyFUE
Thanks for the positive comment guys I'm exactly 2 months + 1 day now and I'm still shedding a lot at the recipient site. Have to wear a cap everywhere I go and thank god my business is in start up phase and I don't need to see too many clients. Hoping things will be better after my third month. I was fortunate enough to be able to wear a hat for the first couple of months after my procedure as well. It definitely took a hefty amount of stress off. Pete-from-Farjo
Yeah it's certainly a bonus if you're able to wear a hat for the first few weeks. Makes the 'ugly duckling' stage a lot easier.
