Parsa Mohebi, MD
We are presenting a 40 year old woman who came to us with significant scarring due to complications from a facial cosmetic procedure. We waited 6 months after her initial visit, in order to give enough time to the hair that might have fallen out due to Telogen Effluvioum, to grow back. Then, we planned for a test hair transplant in order to determine whether the hair would grow back into the scarred area. We designed a few boxes and transplanted 100 grafts into each box. We transplanted only 786 grafts at this stage. Six months after the test hair transplant, we observed close to complete hair growth. After the successful test transplant, we proceeded with another hair transplant which would cover the entire front and corners using 2,716 grafts. We restored the transplanted area with less than maximum possible density due to the fact that most of the areas were scarred. The observed growth from this stage was almost complete so we proceeded with the last procedure to fine tune and add more density to previously transplanted area. The last procedure was performed using 1,231 grafts in order to increase the density of the previously transplanted areas of scalp. The growth was complete at 18 months, allowing the patient to style her hair the way she wanted and enjoy her hair once more. Parsa Mohebi, MD
The patient has been told that they can do an additional procedure to remove her frown lines permanently. I think they may have done "Corrugator supercilii muscle terminal nerve ablation" which is cutting the nerve that is responsible for frowning. Her condition may have been due to a combination of cutting the supraorbital arteries and a very tight bandage after the procedure that caused necrosis of a large area of her scalp. Parsa Mohebi, MD
Thanks Mike, Yes, she was very emotional and I recall she has burst into tears a few times during our initial consultation. She was a great patient and stayed with the plan as we have scheduled her procedure in multiple stages. Initially I have transplanted 100 hair grafts into several boxes (could be seen in the pictures) to make sure her scar and possible vascular damage will not affect the hair growth. When we were convinced that she grew the transplanted grafts almost completely, we have proceeded with full density hair transplant.
