Slight disclaimer that I dyed my hair just prior but there are no styling products. Photo under bathroom spotlights I see you use Propecia .5mg per week ! I tried Propecia 1mg everyday. Had horrible effects. Can i try 1mg per week ? Is that effective? As i read its compulsory to have 1MG per day of it. Can you advice me ?

Recently restarted on this small dose. Hope to move up to 0.5mg every 5 days in a month or so. I figure something is better than nothing. There are some threads on here regarding the 'half life' of the drug which suggest it can be effective for several days after just one pill. I think Dr Parsley posted a great response to a smaller dose (1/4 tablet every other day? Something like that). 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day
Regular Member Faizy1992 Posted February 8, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted February 8, 2013 Thank you for your reply matt but even if we have less dose wouldn't mean we will be having 'less' side effects but we will have minor effects ? Because we both should keep in mind we are not the lucky ones who did not get side effects with the daily dose .. what do you think ? I am on the big 2 and obviously the 3rd Propecia is the father of all which has proven results

richy1234
You've only been using the rogaine once per day? I know it's indicated to be used twice.... Why did you choose to use it only once, as it appears to still be affective. I don't know if I can pull off twice a day, but once I could do (at night). Did you experience any shedding still with the once per day frequency? Great pics!!

Did you experience any shedding still with the once per day frequency? Great pics!! It's impossible to style my hair in the morning if I use it, hence only using it at night. I also cover a large area so it saves a bit in cost... I didn't notice much shedding at all. Growth seemed to start becoming noticeable after 4 weeks. 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

robben
great, you have good results with one application per day, i'm going to try that out because minox causes me increasing in the unwanted hair.

redandwhites
Question for 1978matt, or anyone else who may know the answer - I'm thinking of starting with rogaine/minox, mostly on the crown for now but possibly around the temples in the future.. My question (apologies if it's silly/obvious): If I decide to get a hair transplant in approximately 5 years or more, would I need to continue using minox after that? Considering the fact that I would have been using it for 5+ years by then. I plan to get a hair transplant only in the areas where I'm applying the minox, so even if I stop and the hairs fall out, the new grafts will render future use of minox unnecessary, am I right? Any clarification would be much appreciated! Cheers
Senior Member Rootz Posted February 18, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted February 18, 2014 redandwhites, It's a good idea to try to stabilize your hair loss before a HT. Any reputable doctor will encourage you to do so, and some will even refuse to do surgery otherwise. After a HT it is always wise to stay on treatments to minimize/prevent future loss. Otherwise the hairs surrounding the newly transplanted hairs will disappear (even faster) potentially putting you in an odd looking situation (sooner). Minoxidil and Finasteride will at the very least help stabilize your hair loss. In some cases people regrow hair. Either way, if you suddenly discontinue use of these treatments you likely quickly start to lose ground so it is a good idea to not stop. Think of these treatments like a dam, they help block/prevent hair loss but as soon as you remove them the hair loss floods through.
redandwhites
Rootz, Thanks for the quick reply. Your analogy makes complete sense and to be honest, I suppose it's just not worth the risk anyway. It truly is a case of 'once you start, you can't stop' then! I'll be purchasing my first batch of minoxidil next week and I guess that marks the start of a lifelong journey!
