  1. There are world class FUE docs out there performing large FUE sessions with great results and with yields approximately the same as FUT. Lorenzo comes to mind as the gold standard example for FUE. So tell me... why would I ever want to get a giant scar on my head in exchange for a difference in yield that is imperceivable? I can't help but wonder... does it keep you up at night knowing you're recommending and performing FUT on people without explaining to them that there are top FUE doctors out there who can accomplish the desired result, without disfiguring their head? Because I would have a hard time living with myself if I did what you did.
  2. Looking back at my 6 month pics I would estimate my perceived density then was about 50% of what it looks like now at 12 months.
  3. Your result by the time you get to 12 months should be dramatically better. I remember being in your boat at around 6 months. When I look back at those pics now I think "Wow did it really look like that?" As the hairs mature and come in they become thicker, it just takes time. I would estimate my hair looks about 100% more dense at 12 months now than it did at 6. And at 6 I was concerned it wouldn't get much better. Try not to worry about it too much.
  4. I suggest getting a program that allows colors to be added with transparency (not sure if paint can do this), then take a color sample of your actual hair in the picture and with that color start carefully drawing. Adjust the transparency as needed. I found photoshop to work well, I was able to create different layers for easy comparisons between designs.
  5. I tried it for hairline recession (i.e. temple corners) for ~6 months give or take and I think for the hassle it was not worth it. No visible improvement I could appreciate, and if it was helping maintain I wasn't going to keep using it for 10+ years to find out. It's about 100x less convenient to use than Fin... it would tend to run down my face while exercising hard and get in my mouth too. Very gross. From what I read though it should more effective for general thinning especially around the crown area.
  6. We can only hope top tier doctors don't regularly lie. If the day of surgery Lorenzo told me so and so would be helping to do X and Y, and no one else, I would probably trust him. Maybe that's a mistake? By the way who actually told the patient you mentioned about the extraction information, was it Lorenzo himself? I'm sure the patient brought this point up to Lorenzo either during or right after the surgery, right?... I wonder what Lorenzo had to say. The "no auxiiliary staff is involved" thing may be a translation issue. It's an ambiguous statement as is, you could interpret it to also mean he has staff but not supplementary/backup staff (silly thing to say).
  7. Sounds like a mix up, and I would hope the exception not the norm among top tier doctors. It's pretty unethical (and just messed up) for a doctor to assure you a certain technician will be assisting then intentionally bring in someone else. So again I'm assuming your example was a mix up and a rare occurance. Maybe if I was that concerned about which techs would be assisting though I would request to be introduced to each one personally the day of surgery and ask each one to break down what they would be doing and how long they had been doing it.
  8. I had ~2500 grafts with Feriduni early 2014 (all hairline/temple work) and no one I know has any clue, not even my roommate. I'm now in the "safe zone" in that the result has grown in and I honestly don't think even I could determine I had a HT based on inspection. Writing this actually bring me a smile because it kind of just sunk in what I pulled it off In my case I did not use a hat or wig, but left as much hair as possible up top long (to style over the transplanted areas) and used some strategic makeup placement to smooth out the transition from normal skin tone to red. Depending on what you're getting done you may be able to do what I did. I think shaving down the entire head pre-op is a bad decision in general though... it may look better that way immediately post-op, but when the transplanted grafts shed you'll be left exposed and with limited options.
  9. Just ask the doctor who your technicians will be and request that all the ones that will be working on you have X amount of experience. If he can't accomodate, you can find a new doc or reeavlauate your expectations.
  10. Even if none of them do anything at all for hairloss, they still have different effects on hair appearance... some better than others. They're also priced and advertised differently.
  11. Multiple reasons why I wouldn't give much credit to the Amazon reviews, 1) Most shampoos will indeed make your hair look nicer/thicker, but that isn't the same as preventing hair loss so I imagine there is a lot of confusion there. 2) Placebo effect is especially easy to apply here when the appearance of your hair does indeed change for the better. 3) People claiming quick or immediate hairloss results are mistaken considering that is... impossible. 4) With even the most effective hair loss medications (i.e. Fin), the results after years of usage tend to be subtle and extremely gradual. A lot of the time people taking Fin are unable to notice or appreciate any kind of improvement. But the catch is the hairloss has been slowed or haulted. 5) Based on research I've done on the subject I suspect there are no credible studies showing any significant hairloss prevention from any of those shampoos. You might want to check for yourself first if you're interested in buying.
  12. Aside from the awful pluggy looking transplants of the recent past, I think it's pretty hard nowadays for a HT from any decent doctor to really be obvious mainly because most people know little to nothing about HTs. There are a lot of weird balding patterns out there, so what you may think is an obvious tell of a HT most people might not think much of. And sure a big FUT scar may stand out and look "weird" but I bet most people wouldn't know what to think and would assume some type of accident. I think the most obvious give away though is when the hairline is done too perfectly. As in the hair line itself follows a line that is too uniform/consistent, and yet the density is relatively low, giving it a synthetic look. It's like if you saw a group of cattle scattered amongst each other grazing in a field. You'd think nothing of it. It's a herd of cattle. So what. But if the same cattle were all grazing together in perfectly organized rows/columns you'd think, "... Wtf?"
  13. The better shampoos like Nizoral will contain Ketoconazole and these have been shown to have mild benefits in terms of hair loss. When I say "mild" I mean the actual hair loss benefit is probably imperceivable... you may attribute the immediate positive results of conditioning and cleaning your hair as combatting hair loss, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're preventing hairloss or regrowing hair. Don't get me wrong though, using a shampoo that makes your hair look better or appear thicker is great. Just don't be fooled. At a glance I'm not sure if any of the ones you listed are legitimately effective, but I would be willing to guess... no. One of them is titled "with plant stem cells"? I would definitely not buy that one. Ever.
  14. I guess it is a bit taboo of me to question the usefulness of natural treatments in the natural remedy subforum. Sometimes a conflicting opinion can be a useful one though.
  15. I highly doubt increasing Vitamin D consumption has any meaningful impact on hair loss. The only way to find out for yourself though is to try it for a long period of time and carefully examine your hair before/after... but in the likely event it does nothing, you will have possibly spent a long period of time losing more precious hair. So I would stick with the proven methods.
  16. Keep in mind that if a natural DHT blocker is even effective, it will likely have the same potential side effects as the gold standard method of Finasteride. This is why I personally don't see much of point to the natural methods, not to mention they're usually less convenient to use.
  17. Kind of interested in this too, as most people who get a HT don't shave their head once the full result is in. I think if it appears dense enough to look natural grown out then it should also look natural when buzzed but I'm not sure. Also, pretty much everyone's HT is going to look unnatural 6 months in.
  18. Agreed, nice improvement and looks very natural... 2000 grafts well spent
  19. Just my opinion, but while this looks to be a success in terms of growth I think the surface area was much too large for the number of grafts. I think he looks better but with the caveat of the result (so far) looking "off" because the grafts are spread too thin over an aggressive/smooth hairline. He is 6 months out and still has improvement though.
  20. I think this is a good example of a lower hairline not necessarily being better than a higher one. I think the ideal position would have been about in the middle from where she started and ended up. That said the result pics are immediately post op and I think this makes the result seem a bit worse as the hair is dried together and very unflattering. With the right hair style I bet she will still look better than preop.
  21. I think it's pretty obvious he was NW1 preop, so I'm a bit confused why Rahal seems to be advocating he was NW2. I imagine the patient may have been thinking something like, "My hairline is good but I want it fortify it at the front so I don't have to worry about future recession and maybe make it a bit denser up front and lower/straighten it slightly" ... the density is technically lower at the hairline now, but the hairline is slightly lower and straighter. Overall I think it's an improvement and isn't necessarily pointless but it's so subtle you gotta wonder if the patient was aiming for this very small, calculated improvement or something else.
  22. Yeah your doctor is more or less trying to calm you down and stall for time. Max timeframe is 1.5 years, and that is already stretching it. Common strategy among doctors in all fields, if you don't like the result make the patient wait an extended period of time first in the hopes they quietly accept their loss and move on. Be persistent with your doctor (in a civil way of course).
  23. Seems odd to me that your patient is already extremely happy considering he has a ways to go before the final result and, to be honest, it doesn't looke like 2245 grafts is enough for the surface area here. I think best case scenario with perfect yield it will still look quite thin. I'd be curious what the rationale was for using this number of grafts. Minor critique, the fifth picture is way too blurry.
  24. As far as the grafts are concerned you should be totally safe. As for the FUT incision I think you'd be fine if you can avoid resting the back of your head directly on to the headrest. Maybe you can adjust the seat to help with this, or as silly as it sounds maybe just drive with a neck pillow on.
  25. From a high level perspective this looks good, but the hairline result could use better angles and the one picture provided of the hairline lacks some clarity. Are there more photos somewhere? I'm assuming the results were documented at the clinic, but it seems odd there would only be 2 pictures of the outcome.
