Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted December 13, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted December 13, 2011 huhu, I'm sorry that you are not satisfied with the results of your surgeries at this point. However, as others have pointed out, you are only 6 months post-op from your second and much larger procedure. Also, hair transplants to the crown are known to fill in more slowly than those in the front. I suggest waiting a full 12 months before assessing the results of your second procedure. If you have not yet done so, I highly suggest discussing your concerns with Dr. Pathomvanich. He has a long track record of not only producing excellent results but also providing top notch patient care. If your results are truly subpar, I'm confident he will stand behind his work and do everything necessary to make you happy. Best of luck! Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich
Here is my response to the above concern. He has consultation on May 2010 and on examination shown extensive baldness from front to the crown as in Norwood VI-VII. The balding surface area measured 264 cm2, the length of good donor site was 29 cm2 , the donor density average 80 grafts per cm2 and scalp laxity 30%. The first session was concentrated at the front , 1914 grafts/ 3770 hairs were transplanted. He returned for the 2nd session on 20 May 2011 (one year) with good result from the first session (as attached before and after photos). He wanted to fill the grafts at top and back, since the balding area was very large, he was informed that it might not be dense ,total of 3569 grafts/ 6492 hairs were transplanted spread it over at crown as he wanted. This is only short of 7 months and he was informed that it will be premature to judge the final result since the hair grafts just start to grow.He said he has lost more hair and the balding crown is larger, medication didn't seem to stop the hair loss and thought he lost more hair with medication.I'm kind of concern regarding his current hair loss and told him that the cause of hair loss need to be investigated, not jumping to add more grafts. In summary, it's impossible to transplant 264 cm2 of his balding scalp with his existing hair since it will need 10,560 to 13,200 grafts to achieve good cosmetic result.Body hair transplant result is unpredictable reported by many experience surgeons and the growth rate is quite low compare with scalp hair.He need to be patient another 5-10 months to see the final result and work up for his hair loss. Senior Member Spanker Posted December 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted December 14, 2011 It appears that your first surgery took very well and your second has yet to mature. That said, over that size area I would not expect a full heat of hair on 3500 grafts. Senior Member hairthere Posted December 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted December 14, 2011 Wow, lets put the brakes on here. You guys are telling him his second op was a failure already when he is just 6 months out from a crown procedure and that he is stripped out and should seek fue to fix? HuHu, firstly, Dr. Path does very nice work, as is evidenced from your first HT. Secondly, any HT takes at least 1 year to see the final result and even then the hair can continue to improve and mature up until 18 months. The crown is known to take longer. I have had two crown procedures and that seems to be the case for me. Regarding your donor area, it looks like you experienced some shockloss. That is quite normal, especially from where the strip has been taken. I definitely had loss around my scar and it took about 5-6 months for it to all grow back in. So I wouldn't classify you as being "stripped out." Should you need more density, I would say you could probably get one more strip, then opt for FUE. I would discuss this with your doctor first before jumping ship and seeking out someone new. So don't push the panic button just yet my man. Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted December 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted December 14, 2011 Hairthere Excellent points in your post! Don't panic, I agree 6 months on a crown work is not near long enough. Give it 6 more and reevaluate the situation! Newhairplease!!
