Senior Member corvettester Posted May 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Is it ever acceptable to put multiple grafts into the hairline? If so, why? I always see warnings on the HTN about transplanting multiple grafts into hairlines, however, I also know of instances that it is done. Usually, it's when someone is referring to shoddy work by an HT physician. So when is it acceptable to incorporate multiple grafts into the hairline? Senior Member aaron1234 Posted May 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 6, 2011 I had some 2 and 3 haired grafts placed in my hairline with my first crummy procedure. If you want an unnatural/hard hairline then it would be a great idea! In my opinion, it's an elementary mistake that an experienced doc should NEVER make. Fortunately, Dr. Paul removed most of these multi-haired grafts via punch outs and my hairline looks much better now. Dr. Glenn Charles
I would say that one of the main points of Hair Tranplants 101 is always use single hairs/follicular units to create the hairline. Multiple hair grafts in patients with white, light grey, or blonde hair might not be a noticeable compared to patients with darker hair. I have successfully removed multi-haired grafts in the hairline many times over the years. Senior Member RCWest Posted May 9, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 9, 2011 But then if you think, if a transplanted hairline isn't as low as the original hairine, then you would in real life have 2 or 3 graft hairs there anyways. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Senior Member Janna Posted May 10, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 10, 2011 Multiple hair grafts in patients with white, light grey, or blonde hair might not be a noticeable compared to patients with darker hair. I agree with above statement from Dr. Charles. In majority of patients, there is no need to plant any other size grafts than 1 hairs in the very frontal hairline. However, on patients with fine, fine white hairs or baby fine blonde hairs, we have incorporated two hair grafts within the "peaks" of the hairline. If you can picture our hairline design of peaks and valleys, such as this "V" within hairlines - single hairs are planted along the line of the V but a two hair graft is inside it. Hope that makes sense. I may have to post a real picture. But that is the only instance when two hair grafts are acceptable. The two hair grafts give density and does not look pluggy since the hairs are so fine.
