rjx
Had 2000 grafts 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Graft area seems pretty good and the incision on the donor area seems to be heeling well but there is not much growth between where the staples were. Doc says this is typical when you have pink skin (irritated) from the staples, you get shockloss. Put some pics up to see if there are any suggestions on how to hide the gap and see what you experienced members think of the donor area. My hair covers the incision but the gap is fairly noticeable from the side angle. Like severe hat head in the back. Been out a few times and no one has said anything but it has mostly been at night. Thanks.
Senior Member Dutch Posted April 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2011 Congrats on the op. Use toppik. You can ask the doctor if it's okay to use it to cover the strip line. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
rjx
Dutch, Do you think the toppik coloring will make the shade less noticable or simply hold the hair together better? Thanks.
Regular Member Spellis Posted April 20, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted April 20, 2011 Your donor area looks exactly like mine. I had a little over 1000 grafts by Dr. Keene one month ago. My wife is a hair stylist and she has this powder that she brushes on the scar and hair to make it blend. Then I put some gel on the hair surrounding the scar and blow dry it down to better have it blend in. Hope this helps.
Senior Member Janna Posted April 22, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 22, 2011 Your donor area looks well healed. You get the hat hair look in the back from the hair cut you receive before donor strip is removed. Dermatch should help. Toppiks is tough to sprinkle on the back of the head. It's great for top and crown but you need an applicator to control where you are applying it. Good luck. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 22, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 22, 2011 The donor area looks real good for just a few weeks. Don't worry about the railroad tracks from the staples, they'll go away eventually. It took mine a couple of months to go away. And Janna is right, dermmatch is way better than Toppik as a concealer for the donor area. Senior Member Cant decide Posted April 23, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 23, 2011 Janna - The "Hat head" look is really just from the initial shave down of the donor? I never heard this. So with a good haircut once the donor heals and any shock loss comes back, it should eventually go away? rjx
The scar is actually covered by my hair but the gap from some of the shockloss is noticeable. How does the dermatch help this? Does it hold it together or something? Thanks.
Senior Member Janna Posted April 23, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 23, 2011 Can't decide, Generally, before the donor strip is removed, the donor hairs are trimmed down. Let's say a 1 cm width strip is planned. That means a 1.5 to 2cm width of hair will be trimmed down. So not all of the trimmed hairs are harvested leaving a little gap. This strip of short hair gap can leave that hat hair look if the hair length overall is short. Once the sutures are removed and the hairs are grown to an even length, the "hat head" will go away. RJX, The Dermatch is used to cover over the skin so that it looks like you have hair in the shock loss area. This reduces the gap or hat head look.
