Let me know what you think.

It's shocking that work like this was done in 2010.

Still, as Sparky mentioned earlier, you can probably be salvaged somewhat by going to a great doctor and doing more research this time.

I can't recall ever seeing a good ht from this guy on any forum,it's mostly always a bad news tread where one or two posters pop in with how great he was for them with 1 or 2 post and don't show any before and after pics when asked.if they do it looks like a ad with a woman on each side.

Jekyllandhyde i'm sorry to see that your result didn't go as you expected, but in about 5-6 months you will be able to go through another procedure with a recommended surgeon from this site and it will look a lot more natural.

I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. These opinions are my own.

Dr. Robert True and Dr. Robert Dorin are members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians

JekyllandHyde,

In regards to hair transplant procedures in general, keep in mind that 5.5 months is still very early on and you may still see substantial growth to come. Thus, before making a final evaluation or decision to proceed with another surgery, give it a full year for the results to grow. If in the event you aren't satisfied, you can then determine what to do next.

Best wishes in restoring your hair,

Bill

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Bill: Yes, I've read a lot about the time that it takes to grow back. Actually I haven't decided if going through another procedure in the near future or not. It's very likely that not since I have to pay for my college education which doesn't leave me in a very fit economical situation to afford another hair transplant. (aprox. 10k in my case). My opinion of this Dr. Shapiro is not based solely on the botched job that he did in my head, but also on the quality of the attention and my personal impression. I'll post some more photos as it progresses.

Is there any probability (based on personal experiences) that I get twice as much hair in the last eight moths than in the first five? I know that theoretically is possible, but I'd like to hear some personal accounts.

Thanks again.

Marcos.

Jekyll,

I'm going to parrot what Bill said a bit here ...

At 5 months, you're only at an estimated 30% growth, so all anecdotal experience and reputations aside, you definitely still have plenty of time to grow and mature. Having said that, I would personally wait until the 12 month mark, evaluate your results, and determine, at that time, whether or not you'd like to move forward with another hair restoration surgeon.

Good luck! I am sorry that you've had a less than ideal experience thus far, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to answer specific questions.

MD04 - how did you know discussion of Dr Shapiro was even happening in this forum? Even though it was your family members, not you, who got the procedures awhile back, you still frequent this particular hairloss forum? Can I ask why?

Good call

Hello everyone. Today is the day after my first HT and I'm really worried about what they did to my head. More specifically about what Dr. Lawrence Shapiro did to me.

Short background: Male, 27yrs old, in transition between Type IV and Type V baldness, using Minoxidil & Finasteride for the last year with no visible results.

So, I decided to have a HT done. My budget was rather limited and when doing my research I went for the cheapest in my area (Miami Metro Area) Dr. Lawrence Shapiro. That was the first mistake since usually the cheapest stuff is the worst. I didn't get a consultation with any other surgeon in the area, I only looked into their webpages and decided that Dr. Shapiro looked rather formal, and met my budget expectations. Besides, he carries out a very aggressive -though shoddy- advertising campaign.

I went to my first consultation and my impression of him wasn't good. He spoke too much, about how great he does his job and that I wouldn't have any trouble because my case was pretty straightforward. He didn't get into the details and he looked as he was in a hurry, so we only talked for a couple of minutes. The financial issues where discussed with his assistant and we agreed to do 1500 grafts in the front and 300 in the crown area, the price was 2.5$ per graft.

At this point I didn't like the fact that the interview with him wasn't as I expected it to be: personal, with through information about the procedure, having time to ask my questions, etc. The jingle in his web page didn't smell good, as well as his "wonder formula" to regain hair in only a couple of months after the surgery. I knew the guy wasn't serious but I considered that even if he wasn't that good he still had experience and that all the procedure couldn't be a disaster. After all he has "experience" and after a little bit of research I saw that he is member of a couple of hair restoration societies.

The day of the surgery everything was "too fast" for what I had expected. He removed the strip, and performed the incisions in my scalp so fast that he was done in five minutes. I was wondering if he can do 1800 incisions in so little time but.... I was well beyond the point of no return. I never saw him again, the assistants where the ones who implanted the grafts. After the surgery I bled a lot -I have read that all the bleeding should be controlled before you leave the room.

I feel good but I have a lot of dry blood on my scalp and I think that this guy kind of ripped my off. I have read now all the comments about him and I have found that I shouldn't have done it with him.

Please guys, tell me what you think. Is this bleeding capable of ruining the outcome? Does it looks as if I have enough grafts?

I apologize for my English

Please, don't tell me that I'm a jerk and that I should have researched more. I know that.

Thanks.

Hi JekyllandHyde;

I understand your anxiousness and it appears you have a bit of buyers remorse. This can be do to post surgical anxiety. I encourage you not to be overly alarmed. Perhaps your experience is not as you anticipated but that does not mean that you HT will necessarily not provide the results anticipated. I would suggest based on your photos that you follow up with your clinic to have another post surgical shampoo to clear more of the congealed blood on the scalp. Other than this be positive and wait and see. Post picks here if you choose at one month intervals.

Things may work out better than you think though it appears you were disappointed with your patient care. All the Best, Michael.

It's been two years now since I had the HT with Dr. Larry Shapiro. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it isn't yet even 50% of what it should have been (said by everyone including other HT surgeons). I can't get by as I'm not as bald as I used to be, but the results are quite disappointing (he didn't even care about the orientation of the follicles....).

RUN AWAY FROM HIM. THAT'S THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE TO YOU!

Good luck and sorry for the delay in the response, it was only now that I saw your comment. Be willing to spend some more thousands of dollars and get a good specialist.
