Surgery with Dr. Wong next week

Hi all,

I am new here, but not new to hair loss. Next week I'm having a mega session with Dr. Wong. He sure has his work cut out for him, because what I have is a mess. I had a hair transplant when I was 23 and it turned out awful. I had approxiately 500 graphs put in and at first they were ok because they mixed in with my other hair but as the years went on I lost all of the hair around it, so I was left with this pluggy hair line. I have been faithful about taking finasteride, but that doesn't seem to help at all in the front.

I am overall really excited and glad I'm going with one of the best surgeons. I really hope he can fix this mess so I can finally move on with my life. I have been so self concious about my hair, I don't even like to go out anymore.

Anyways, I'll keep you posted on my journey. I'll have my laptop with me in Vancouver so I'll try to take some good pictures after the surgery.

I am attaching a picture of what my hair looks like now.

here are some pics from my surgery post op day 1.

To be honest the surgery was rougher than I expected. It took 12 hours and I got around 4200 graphs. Overall it was a great experience, Dr Wong and his staff were top notch. I just hope everything turns out, because I don't want to go through this again. ;)

BTW my head has swelled up. I look like an alien.

Razor,

Congratulations on your procedure with Dr. Wong. 4200 is a great #. The best thing to do is to keep the staples in as long as Dr. Wong told you to keep them in and everything should be ok.

Sleeping upright for a week is not really necessary and certainly not for a week. The only time when it is a good idea is if you've had temple point and/or crown work but I think the inflatable neck pillow we gave you is just fine for keeping these areas off of your pillow and safe from irritation and damage. I used this pillow for the first time with my last surgery six weeks ago and it worked great for me. I wish I had it the first few times around.

My head's seems swollen on the sides around the donor area, that why I look so funky

Is this normal? Could it be a hemtaoma? I just read a thread about swelling in the donor area, so i'm a little worried

Razor,

Congratulations on your recent procedure with Dr. Wong. Hair transplant surgery is no walk in the park however, other than the initial pain of the injections, it's typically a pretty seamless procedure.

4200 grafts is still a significant number to achieve in the first session. Depending on your goals, you may decide to undergo a second procedure to achieve more density and coverage.

I hope you'll keep us updated on your progress and post monthly photos. Feel free to create a free patient website, hair loss blog, or photo albums to document your progress. You can also upload any videos to our hair restoration video library.

Best wishes,

Bill

Looking good.

When I had my transplant years ago with those plugs, I swelled for days. From my readings, people still swell, but it seems to go down sooner.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but people tend to connect swelling to complication: I'ave had several operations and each one was with swelling (not infection). I think it just goes with the territory that one will swell after so much work was done on the head. Now if the swelling becomes red/wheepy/gross/ and does not go away, now thats another problem; but basic swelling - it goes with the operation.

Slept ok last night, not great. I propped myself up on three pillows. I have a friend who swares that sleeping upright the first couple nights help.

Have quite a bit of pain in the back of the head, but I guess it's normal. Head still swollen.

Today I went into to see Dr. Wong for my shampoo. He was a bit concerned about the swelling, some pimples and the blob of liquid that's slowly moving down my fore head towards my eyes. He recommended I stay until Friday, and offered to put me up at the Sheraton Wed and Thurs nite.

I am really grateful he did this because it cost me $168 to change my airline ticket to Friday.

Fortunately I don't have to be back at work until next Monday. But now I'm wondering.....

This has really been a rough experience, and especially so because Im alone. As a suggestion to anyone considering having this procedure done, bring a friend or family member

Swelling, pain, uneasiness etc are normal for the first few weeks. What you have done right is by choosing one of the best doctors available on this planet.Dr Victor Hasson & Dr Wong are mega & Giga session specialists & what others perform in two surgeries is performed in a single session by them. Now dont bump your head for 2 weeks & then rest .You will look great mate!

I would like to start using rogaine as soon as possible, but my post op instructions say I should wait two weeks. It's been about 7 days since my procedure and there are quite a few other drs that say you can start after 7 days. Any opinions?

Hi Razor,

I had the same question and emailed the clinic where my work was done. I was told 10 to 14 days is best. The suggestion seemed to lean more towards waiting 14. I am at day 9 now and have decided to wait 14.

Here is my day 7 photograph. I should of taken it in natural light, but it was too late in the day. Everything seems ok, but those staples hurt like hell.

I'm going to make a blog about this experience but am just feelin a bit lazy right now. :D

razor,

I've gone ahead and added the link to Dr. Wong's profile in your Hair Loss Website. It's just a matter of selecting him from a drop down list. I also recommend adding a link to your website in your forum signature. For step-by-step instructions click here.
