  1. Lets define what it is we're talking about here. "Generic" is anything that says "finasteride" on the box instead of either "Propecia" or Proscar". Proscar is the original medication that contained finasteride and it comes in 5mg tablets and it is aimed at prostate problems. Propecia comes in a 1mg tablet and is aimed at those with hair loss problems. They are the same medication but with three differences; dosage, marketing and cost. Generic versions of both medications are made by a number of varying companies but not all have the same standards even though, according to the FDA, they all meet specific requirements to be allowed for sale. However, it is in our experience that this is not the case and we have been recommending only name brand Proscar or Propecia for our patients for years. I have spoken about this many times and I have been attacked just as many times by those that for some reason get offended by my warnings. The reliability of the generic forms of finasteride are in question and recent evidence has validated my observations. http://www.raps.org/focus-online/news/news-article-view/article/3794/fda-looks-to-confront-potential-bioequivalence-problems-in-generic-anemia-produ.aspx In the above link two generic products were called into question regarding their bio-equivalency. I also had a pharmacist come in for a consultation and we were talking about finasteride when I brought up the subject of generics and this exact issue. He confirmed to me that generics in general are not always the same as the original and used Lipitor as an example (I think it was Lipitor). He said that original Lipitor had 52 patents filed for the formulation where the leading generic cracked 13 of those patents. I find this to be very disturbing not just with regards to finasteride but to all medications. If Propecia is too expensive at 170 bucks for four months supply (120 tablets) you can halve that cost and still get the real medication by cutting up Proscar tablets into quarters. Proscar costs me 80 bucks for 30 tablets so if you cut them into quarters your monthly cost is only 20 bucks. It's cheap, it's the real deal and you don't have to worry about ordering it from sketchy online mystery pharmacies.
  2. I'm glad this discussion is continuing if only to show how different people perceive reality. Unfortunately some people mistakenly think that everyone that has lighter skin is Caucasian with Irish lineage and that every hairline should be like a soft, feathery field of dandelions. Nothing could be further from the truth. The abrupt nature of the hairline was his idea because he wanted to replicate the "shaped" hairline that some younger African American and Middle Eastern men have. This is a technique carried out with a razor where the hairline is shaped to be clean, tight and without irregularity. To have such irregularities would look sloppy in the eyes of this client. In some cultures outside of North America even beards are meticulously groomed to be "perfect" in shape and length. This is similar. Ultimately, this is not a hairline for everyone and I would actually discourage it for most clients, especially the typical whitebread Caucasian of any age. On the forums every image is scrutinized to death and I knew I'd get a few Monday morning quarterbacks that have no context on why this result is what it is but in the real world anyone that sees this guy not only is oblivious to anything being unnatural they believe he is shaving his full head of hair. I know because he actually makes his living on his looks. If it were anything less than natural in appearance his career would be over. It's as simple as that.
  3. Wow, old post but still a great result. Thanks for bringing this one back, Spanker. SBT, My wife took that pic of me while we were on a helicopter tour east of Vancouver last month. The pilot touched down on a glacier/peak and we walked around for a bit before we took off again.
  4. I'm not disputing that Dr. Reyes has ever been to our office. I'm disputing that she "trained" in our office. We've had dozens of doctors in our office over the years but it doesn't mean they've trained here. Watching a procedure being performed is not the same as being trained. I can show you a picture of me and the band LMFAO at a dinner table full of steaks and drinks in Madrid Spain but it doesn't mean I'm part of the band. I can show you a picture of me at the Ferrari factory in Maranello but it doesn't mean I'm an F1 driver. Dr. Alba Reyes has never trained in our clinic, period, so she should stop telling patients she has.
  5. Hairthere, Thanks man. No, the after pics were taken a few weeks later I believe. Not sure exactly how long but it certainly was not right after round two. Oh, and it was with the new machine. You might not know what I'm referring to since you started out with it but Janna knows what I'm talking about.
  6. Janna, Good to hear from you. It is impossible for all photos to be consistent 100%. When I said flash makes everything the same I was perhaps oversimplifying it but flash does make before/afters more consistent than without flash. Regarding this result, I think the before/after is pretty close and personally I'm very happy with the consistency. I don't even know why Davis asked about, lol! Regarding this SMP result, I get the same reaction from everyone I show it to, "WOW!" It works for the patient because he is very young, barely over 20 years old and he is a professional model so a mature hairline would not have worked for him, personally or professionally. "Jotronicish"??? I never knew such a thing existed, lol! But yes, I did come up with the name. Glad you like it! If you are going to be in San Fran for the meeting lets grab a beer:)
  7. Davis, If we used a flash on our photos like everyone else does then our backgrounds would be identical as would the skin tones because flash makes everything the same but unfortunately it changes what the result really looks like. After photos are not taken ten seconds after before photos so you have to factor in differences in distance, focal length as well as the obvious differences in the time of day since we don't have a studio.
  8. This client came to Hasson & Wong to inquire about surgery but unfortunately his hair loss was far greater than what his limited donor supply could provide. However, he then decided to give our NuYuInk© procedure a try and wound up having two sessions for the result you see below. The client is young so he wanted something aggressive with a "sculpted" appearance which is popular in the hip-hop scene. The great thing is that as he gets older and his tastes change then he will be able to alter his hairline for a more graduated increase in density and/or with more recession. This is only possible with temporary SMP.

  13. Meet James Barnett. He is our representative for the Toronto area. He originally came to us in April of 2011 wishing for as much coverage as possible. One pass with Dr. Hasson and his team netted a total of 6105 grafts which were placed in one day. The results were sent in by James seven months post-op.
  14. Here are two close ups to show how fine the dots are. It is difficult to see in the first photos mainly because of the glare. I'm going to be building a new studio soon so hopefully this can be reduced or eliminated.
  15. I'm surprised that no one caught this. If you look at this pic it tells us everything we need to know. Your donor zone is strong with regards to density and my suspicion is that your donor laxity is average at worst but most likely it is above average (call it a gut feeling). However, the image above CLEARLY shows that you are going to be a NW7 without meds. I guarantee it. What I'm not clear about is that you said your loss continued after you started Propecia. Two questions: 1. Is it name brand Propecia or Proscar or some other variant? If you have access to it you should get the name brand Propecia or Proscar (and cut it into quarters, take one quarter per day). 2. When you say you kept losing your hair was it in the front or the back or both? Propecia does not work nearly as well in the front as it does in the back so if you are referring to the front then this does not mean the medication is not working.
  16. Amef8hi, I see no reason to continue with your generic. Get the real stuff so that there is no question about what you are taking. Good luck.
  17. Here are SRK's photos. He represents what we would consider to be a small case because we only had to do the front of his scalp, the hairline and some of the mid-scalp. He is a diffused thinner and this result I'm sharing is after one pass.
  18. Hey guys, sorry for not providing the images yet. I'm going to share them on behalf of SRK735. I've been away on a long overdue vacation. I'll work on getting those photos uploaded today and maybe along with some others.
  19. This meeting is already nearly full. You should call soon to reserve your spot as the next opening is over six weeks away.
  20. Bumping this up guys. The London date is fast approaching and there is limited availability remaining. Call now to reserve your spot.
  21. Yes, this is what he meant. It is very rare but sometimes grafts will not shed at all. I've seen this only a handful of times in the past ten years.
  22. Our West Coast rep will be in our Los Angeles office in the Yahoo Center this July, from the 23rd to the 27th. 23. Believing it is one thing. Whether or not it is the truth is another. If you don't believe it then continue with the generic that you feel is just as good. I'm sure it could be as many times it is but make no mistake about it, generics are not required to actually be the same thing as the original therefore they are not always as strong or as effective as the original.
  24. Thanks, CD. I also suggest that the OP take a drive to Edmonton and see Dr. Nakatsui.
