  1. just to note, the use of lateral slits is benefical when there are more then one hair in the graft. one hair grafts do not benefit from lateral slits... the "shingling effect" happens essential becuase of the multi hairs in the graft and how they lay horizontally, instead of in a line vertically. you will not get the appearence of more density if you cut every graft into a single, in fact, it would appear less dense. you are not born with all singles, why would it make sense to do that?
  2. he wasn't being condescending....you are asking for specifics as if this topic was researched with a double blind study. use common sense, and if you want to hit it hard, live with the fact that you might get a wider scar. Bill talks about what worked best for him, but i assure you that it doesnt mean that it will work for you. it is common knowledge that it takes 3 to 6 months for the scar to heal properly and to gain some of the lax back in the scalp.
  3. well NG2GB, the thing with coarse black hair and a light scalp is that the hairs at the front line will seem extra thick, and that is the problem. the contrast just accentuates the thick hairs upfront and you can see strand by strand much easier. if you have coarse hair and darker skin, then it blends with the scalp and you can't see the individual stands as easily. its not a problem for most, but it is easier to spot for those in the know, thats all.
  4. if you dont have great density, a very short length will be very hard to pull of especially if you have coarse hair on lighter skin. at the same token, too long and thin hair does not work. a medium length of 4 to 5 (maybe a little longer) inches with medium density usually works best in opinion
  5. Ginger-Vitis....haha, nice on NG2GB
  6. Jupiter, i understand your point but i would say that you are wrong. I work in entertainment, and i know lots of young guys that rock the shaved or bald look and nobody gives a shit because they still look good.... If they were sporting a thinning look, thats when people start talking its when you age, that the shaved look might be more problematic.... you have it the other way around.
  7. my bad, didn't mean to take it that far...been a tough day all around... just trying to point to how the shaved look was brought into the mainstream, and it was from the balding men of the world. so yes, i agree that having a full head of hair shaved down is better, being bald and shaving is pretty damn good compared to the combover. sorry about getting personal, maybe its your avatar, that guy really bothers me...haha
  8. i love how you show pictures of men that are 10+ years older in age... i understand what you are saying, but you act as if you have brought into fashion, single handedly the "shaved" look. if you know anything about fashion in general, it was brought on by balding men, not the other way around. Then after it became very exceptable in the fashion and media world, many men with full heads of hair started shaving it off. Before, a white male shaving his head was looked upon as an ex con or neo nazi.... My god, how you spend this much time on a forum without ever having gotten an HT is beyond me.
  9. ng2gb, you make your argument as if its the objective truth. the shaved look is the same look that Yul Bryner went with many years ago, which is again in fashion. for a example, most people cite Bruce Willis or Jason Stratham as examples of the shaved look. and no, you dont need to have a hairline to pull it off. its not the same as shaving with a full head of hair like Beckem, but it serves its purpose and is considered the same look. i tend to agree that it is often times much cleaner looking then having thinning, weak hairs all around. and often the case, better then some HT patients rolling around with a combover.
  10. Hi action, When your hair is combed down, the improvement is quite dramatic, but your hairline photo seems very weak for 4000+ grafts in front 1/2. I'm sure it will thicken up a bit since you are at 9months, and since there are no post op pics for the second procedure its hard to tell where the graphs were placed. Since you had alot of area to cover, maybe i am mistaken, but i would expect a little more growth out there in the front.
  11. the kink takes up to 24 months(in some causes longer) to relax.....sorry, buddy, you just have to wait it out.
  12. hey bro, i would suggest that you get on propecia right away. cut the dose in half if you have problems, becuase it seems that you are a diffuse thinner and having a HT, might really cause a bad shed, which would give you a net loss after 1500grafts and also, dont ever stop using the rogaine now that you started.
  13. One thing that i don't understand, and i'm not trying to be offensive to the TS, is the communication between patient and Dr about the surgery that they are undergoing. At three months, you might just begin to see some growth. The process takes at least a year, so put the mirror away, relax for a bit, then check things out in a few months to see where your at.
  14. totally expected. if you lost a graft, you will bleed. shockloss happens at around 2 to 3 weeks, although some hairs break of with the scabbing earlier.
  15. No, he doesn't require it, although it makes the job easier.
  16. Dr. Ahamd, guess you didn't read what i wrote. I got another 2k grafts in an area already transplanted with 18oo grafts, giving me about 3800 in the frontal 1/3. The 2ooo grafts was with Alexander. He could have done this at one time though, if i had went to him first, but alas, i did not. It would have been ridiculous to go with any higher of a density.
  17. Well, went in again to finish my front 1/3, this time with Dr. Alexander. Boy, am i relieved with what i believe will be the last time i have to touch this area ever again. I'm a few days out, still a bit in pain, and anxious because i have lots of work that i can't tend too, but, in the end, totally stoked. Might in the end post some pics, but since my privacy is very important because of work, I'm not sure yet. Just to give some background, had two previous procedures totaling 1800 grafts in the front 1/3 with Dr Elliot. Work was decent, but never achieved the density that i wanted. Still have some native hair in there as well. I'm 30, with pretty good coverage after the front 1/3 and been on meds for four years. The day with Dr. Alexander was smooth. He made much smaller incisions with great care and detail then i had previous. Also, the amount of time he spent with both the donor cutting, and recipient placements was much longer then before, which signifies detail. His techs moved fast, and they have been with him for quite some time. I was pretty relaxed the whole time, but let me be honest (because i read this all the time) you will be in some pain. I've gone through this three times, which makes me a sort of veterano, and all three times, there are moments of real pain that you have to deal with, both during, and a few days after. Worst then getting a tattoo(but in short spurts), but then again, maybe I'm a little sensitive. Its a bit of endurance testing. Sleeping the night after surgery is miserable. But, like many things in life, we have to endure some hardship, to get what we want. I would like to thank the Dr. for such a detailed, high quality transplant. I'll be back from time to time, so feel free to ask me any questions. Also, as much as it is hard for me to admit this because i didn't trust this site when i first found it, the forum has been a great source of research and help. Its the internet, you never really know the motives of what people post or the forum itself, but in the end, there are great people here who are in the same sort of predicament as yourself, trying to figure it out themselves. It becomes a sort of support system. Anyways, cheers.
  18. Personally, i would chose Alexander. But they are all good.
  19. mav, you will most probably encounter shockloss. you have to weigh the benefits and the negatives, and this is one of them. if your on propecia, and the hair is strong, it will grow back but this is one of the grey area's of surgery..... just make sure the amount of hair being transplanted will be enough to give good density in a worst case scenario. and in the end, even if you have shockloss, you can touch up the procedure in a year or two, and be relieved to know that it is perminent.
  20. maybe a quick trip to Dr Scott Alexander? Well, thats what i would do anyway, if i was in LA.
  21. just email and ask..... LA has Rassman, and he sure charges a pretty penny. If ur looking into Canada, then you can look in the US as well, right. Alexander is right up your alley.
