  1. Imagine waking up from your procedure, filled with hope and anticipation only to look in the mirror and find an unnatural, conspicuous hairline staring back at you. Your disappointment would be unbearable, overshadowing the initial excitement you had before and during the procedure. A poorly executed hairline not only shatters expectations but also becomes a daily reminder of an unsuccessful transformation. A natural-looking hairline isn't about vanity; it's a reflection of identity and self-assurance. It's about seamlessly blending the new with the existing, ensuring that the restored and natural hair match perfectly Ultimately, the success of a hair transplant surgery isn't just measured by the number of grafts but by the seamless integration of transplanted and natural hair and by reconstructing a new hairline that mimics nature. A natural-looking result isn't just a cosmetic achievement; it's an affirmation of self-esteem, allowing individuals to move forward without ever having to worry about their hair again. Dr. Rahal has been labeled the "king of hairlines" by his patients and if you've ever seen examples of his results (especially in person), there's no doubt as to why. Below are some examples of some recent hairlines carefully crafted by Dr. Rahal and his team. .
  2. @duchaine, I realize that I represent a clinic so my response may seem biased. But Dr. Rahal didn’t obtain the nickname ”King of, hairlines” for no reason. But don’t just take my word for it, do a search on this for him to see what others are saying. Also, here are some recent hairline examples from our clinic.
  3. @Cro40, While it’s not good to breathe in antifreeze purposely, many people at some point or another have had a Car related issue involves And cooling system leak. And antifreeze does not smell good. However, the smell of it is not going to harm your newly transplanted hair. Your transplanted hair Is typically only more vulnerable than your regular hair for the first couple of days to a week after hair transplant surgery. Things like bumping your head or rubbing against the grafts could cause you to lose grafts during that time if you’re not careful. That said, once the hair follicles take root, your transplanted hair is as secure as your natural hair and it would take something extreme to remove it (such as surgery, extreme hair pulling, extreme health related issues or certain medications that can cause hair loss, etc.). I hope this helps. Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  4. Dear forum members and guests, This patient underwent FUE hair transplant surgery with Dr. Rahal, receiving a total of 3000 grafts and 6229 hairs in a single session. All follicular units were placed in zones 1 to 5 aka the frontal zone. His surgical details are below. &&& Zone 1,2,3,4,5 &&& Recipient Area Size - 75cm2 1 Haired FUs - 443 2 Haired FUs - 1910 3 Haired FUs - 622 4 Haired FUs - 25 Total Grafts - 3000 Total Hairs - 6229 Average Hairs Per Graft - 2.07 Recipient Graft Density - 40 Recipient Hair Density - 83.1 The patient was 41 years of age at the tie of his hair transplant procedure and started losing his hair in his mid 20's. He didn't use any non-surgical hair loss treatments prior to surgery however, afterwards he did use Rogaine post-op and underwent a single PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment before surgery and 4 afterwards. Family history of hair loss occurred only on his father's side as high as a Norwood class 5. The patient is very happy with his results as per our discussion with the patient in person. 5. @curiou, Theres no real evidence that subsequent hair transplant procedures take longer to grow than the first although there are a few variables that may affect this. For example, hair transplant repair procedures may take a little longer if hair is being transplanted into scar tissue. Also, if you’ve gone to a different surgeon for your second procedure, it may take a little longer or even grow in a little faster depending on exactly how they are performing the procedure. For example, the depth of the incision may vary From clinic to clinic and this may affect how quickly the newly transplanted hair begins to pop through the scalp. However, assuming all variables are the same, normal subsequent hair transplant procedures simply take about the same length of time as the first one. It may seem like it takes longer for the same reasons others mentioned above but the actual procedure and process takes about the same length of time whether it’s the first procedure time in the second, etc. Best wishes, Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  6. @Cro40, As it’s already been stated, it’s possible that a graft popped out. But if you didn’t bump your head or experience any pain, it’s also possible that you inadvertently picked or opened a scab - but with no damage to the graft at all. At the end of the day however, while nobody wants to lose a graft, losing a couple of them won’t make any cosmetic impact when the transplanted hair all finally grows in and matures. This process will take up to 12 to 18 months I hope this helps. Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  7. @cleavingmarauder, The answer is, it depends. The truth is, most surgeons typically get good at using one single tool and stick with it. While some surgeons prefer motorized punches, others prefer manual. At Rahal Hair Transplant, we often use a combination of manual and motorized punches depending on the patient and which tool seems most viable for their skin type. That being said, both manual and motorized tools can be used quite efficiently and produce very healthy grafts. But a tool is simply that, a tool. How efficient a device is largely depends on the skill and experience of the surgeon and his staff using it. As an example, give a child a hammer and a nail and they will likely end up hurting themselves. But a skilled and experienced contractor can build a house with it. Our clinic has become quite efficient at utilizing both manual and motorized tools and feels that both are sometimes necessary to produce the best grafts. But mastery of both types of punches have come from many years of experience performing exclusive FUE. This is why I always tell people to select a surgeon based on their proven ability to produce consistent, excellent results. Details such as which tool or device they use, while important, only matter If the surgeon/clinic has proven themselves over and over again with outstanding patient results. 8. @BackFromTheBrink, I really appreciate the heads up on this. I found it and am in the process of fixing it now.
  9. @BackFromTheBrink, thanks for the compliment. I checked the video dozens of times and I didn’t see any place where his face is shown. Now, I know there can be hiccups from time to time especially when The result is fading out in the text is fading in. But just to be safe, I will make a small change that should solve this problem. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Best wishes, Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  10. Last week, we presented an impressive patient result showcasing 3010 grafts and 6403 hairs. To refresh your memory, visit the link at the bottom of this topic. We also took a video of this patient which I think shows the true, high quality nature of the result. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth a thousand pictures. 11. I know it probably sounds compelling to think of a doctor doing the entire hair transplant procedure themselves. However, be careful with this kind of thinking. A doctor attempting to do an entire procedure himself would become exceptionally fatigued, and the results would be subpar. The best results are produced by a dedicated and experienced surgical team, led by an outstanding and skilled hair transplant surgeon who performs the crucial part of the procedure, himself. Dr. Rahal and his surgical team have been working together for a long time and they are like a well oiled machine working together in harmony. Everybody knows their part and everybody that works on. each portion of the procedure is an expert at what they do. Furthermore, Dr. Rahal is involved in the entire procedure, even if he’s not the one doing every part of the surgery himself. You’ve probably heard the expression work smarter, not harder. In some cases, even if you are the expert and possess the most knowledge, there may be somebody who performs a particular task even better or at least just as well. and since her transplant, surgery would be overwhelming for one person to perform the entire procedure, it’s crucial to utilize a team of experienced medical professionals that can perform certain parts of the procedure at least as well, if not even better than the surgeon himself. Now it may give you warm and fuzzy feelings to think of the doctor, doing all parts of the procedure him or herself. But at the end of the day, this is not usually for the best and doesn’t typically produce an optimal outcome. I hope this helps Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  12. @austx, Based on your current hair loss pattern and your age, you seem like a good candidate for surgical hair restoration. And while using finasteride will likely help you maintain your existing hair, or at the very least slow down the progression of male pattern, baldness, given the specifics, you’ve shared, I personally don’t feel that you would need to wait a year to proceed with surgery. Here’s why. Ultimately, while there are some miniaturizing hairs left in the crown, realistically using finasteride or minoxidil isn’t going to regrow all your hair in the crown. At best, some of the miniaturizing hairs may thicken up a bit and while I’m certainly an advocate of using medication in conjunction with surgical hair restoration to maximize results, whether or not you wait a full year or not before surgery won’t likely produce a night and day difference. Besides, most reputable surgeons possess a 6 month plus waiting list which would be plenty of time for any medication you decide to start taking to begin doing its job. At 45 years old and your current hair loss pattern, it’s unlikely you will develop an advanced Norwood class level of hair loss, especially if you start finasteride and you are a good responder. Just be sure to consult a physician before taking any medication. If you are interested in a no obligation, information session with Dr. Rahal, feel free to send me a private message, and I’ll be happy to set this up for you. This will give you much more precise idea of what can be accomplished in terms of results, number of grafts, etc. Best wishes, Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  13. @larusx, New transplanted hair growth typically only begins between 3 to 5 months after hair transplant surgery. The new transplanted hair typically grows in thin, fine and colorless and overtime, it thickens, darkens and matures. This process typically takes 12 to 18 months. Keep in mind that surgical hair restoration is progressive and as a result, each month you will see more and more growth and thickening of the existing hairs. At 5 months, you are still in the very early days so as long as you’ve chosen wisely when selecting a physician, you should have much more growth and thickening to come. Best wishes, Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  14. @Ant339, Price per graft typically varies depending on the clinic and the location. $10 per graft in my opinion, is a little in the high side. But the most important thing is that you select a surgeon based on skill, experience and a proven ability of producing outstanding results. That said, if the surgeon you’re most impressed with happens to produce world renowned results and charge less in addition then that’s certainly a bonus. For instance, our FUE price is approximately half of that up here in Ottawa and Toronto. Best wishes, Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  15. This patient received a total of 3010 grafts and 6403 hairs over a single FUE hair transplant procedure with Dr. Rahal in August of 2022. All of the grafts were placed in zones 1 to 5 aka the frontal zone. His surgical details are below. &&& Zone 1,2,3,4,5 &&& Recipient Area Size - 68cm2 1 Haired FUs - 350 2 Haired FUs - 1931 3 Haired FUs - 725 4 Haired FUs - 4 Total Grafts - 3010 Total Hairs - 6403 Average Hairs Per Graft - 2.1 Recipient Graft Density - 44 Recipient Hair Density - 94 The patient is very happy with his results and in fact, he's so thrilled about his own results that he's been referring others to us as well :-). He was 27 years of age at the time of his hair transplant and is not on any hair loss medication (though he is still considering finasteride). His family history of hair loss exists solely on his fathers side, mostly all at Norwood class 4 or 5. His grandfather however reached a Norwood class 6. 16. @O_O_O_O_O, Each hair transplant surgeon has their own set of postoperative instructions including when to resume taking minoxidil. In general however, You should be free to resume taking minoxidil only after a couple days postop. The main reason why minoxidil is stopped prior to surgery is because it has a tendency to thin the blood. But after several days, a week to be safe, you should be free to resume the minoxidil either oral or topical. I hope this helps. Patient Advocate - Rahal Hair Transplant
  17. @alexmillne, Instead of answering your questions, I have to ask you… who told you that oral minoxidil is more effective than topical minoxidil? In my opinion, this is not true. Why? Because the actual mechanism behind minoxidil is unknown, however, minoxidil is said to stimulate hair regrowth upon contact. In fact, one of the side effects of minoxidil in women, for example is unwanted facial or body hair growth, if the minoxidil comes in contact with certain parts of the face or body. This is why people are told to wash their hands after applying minoxidil. This shows that the minoxidil is affective when directly applied to the area where you want hair regrowth to occur. Thus, if you take it orally, then you are assuming that the minoxidil will make its way through the bloodstream and find the particular areas you want to target and then stimulate regrowth there? If anything, taking minoxidil orally would potentially cause thicker hair regrowth in all areas of the body, face and scalp that is, assuming you take enough of it. But if you don’t take enough of it, it likely won’t do anything for any part of the scalp, face or body. Personally, I feel that if topical minoxidil is working for you, don’t switch to oral minoxidil. The only reason why I think somebody should consider switching would be if they were experiencing side effects by taking it topically. This, of course, is just my opinion, but I haven’t seen any actual research or evidence, suggesting that oral minoxidil is more effective or potent than topical minoxidil. 18. On and off over the last two decades, follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery has been sometimes incorrectly promoted as a "scarless" procedure. And while everyone who's realistic about the procedure can agree that any surgical procedure (defined as scoring of the skin) can and will create at least some sort of scar, there's no doubt that today's advanced modern day FUE (in the right hands) enables patients to wear their hair cropped ultra-short without showing any signs of scarring. Since some of you have been asking, below I've presented several examples of shaved and short donor areas after FUE at Rahal Hair Transplant. See just how short patients can wear their hair after FUE without sacrificing growth yield. 19. This patient underwent an FUE hair transplant procedure with Dr. Rahal in March of 2021. He had a total of 3223 Grafts and 7395 hairs in zones 1-5 aka the frontal portion of his scalp. See his surgical details below. &&& Zone 1,2,3,4,5 &&& Recipient Area Size - 84cm2 1 Haired FUs - 401 2 Haired FUs - 1613 3 Haired FUs - 1068 4 Haired FUs - 141 Total Grafts - 3223 Total Hairs - 7395 Average Hairs Per Graft - 2.3 Recipient Graft Density - 38 Recipient Hair Density - 88 He was 24 years of age at the timne of his hair transplant procedure. He wasn't on any hair loss medication at the time but started finasteride in October, 2022 - more than a year after his procedure - in order to prevent further hair loss. Rogaine however, caused side effects so he decided not to use it. His family history of hair loss affects his paternal side only and is as advanced as a Norwood class 6. 20. @wprevil, I think it’s good that you are here researching your hair restoration options before taking the plunge. But at the end of the day, only you can decide whether or not Hair Transplant surgery is for you. Nobody here can tell you whether or not you should or should not undergo surgical hair restoration based on photos or your situation. They can only provide you with their opinion. All that to say, it does seem that you have undergone a slightly above moderate amount of hair loss and based on photos alone, there’s a possibility that you would be a good candidate. On the other hand, it does seem that you have the ability to style your hair in such a way that conceals your hair loss and portrays the illusion of a fuller looking out of hair. So the question is, does your hair loss bother you enough to consider restoring your hair surgically or are you satisfied with styling your hair in such a way to hide it? now, if you are considering hair transplant surgery, I suggest researching the procedure and the best physicians to perform it. If you are interested in information session with Dr. Rahal, feel free to send me a private message and I’ll be happy to set this up for you. Dr. Rahal is highly recommended by this community and is a highly esteemed member of the coalition which is the highest form of membership on this site based on an ongoing demonstration of producing outstanding results. 21. @Sunset Dune, can you give us some more background in terms of your situation? For example, did you have a hair transplant? Assuming you did, what was the date of your procedure and how far along are you in terms of growth and results? If this is your natural hair, and nothing to do with hair transplant surgery, there probably isn’t a lot anyone can say except… This is just the way your hair is growing naturally. On the other hand, if this is a transplanted hair, the answer will depend on some of the questions I asked above. For example, the hair may have just recently broken through the scalp, and may still be the process of growing and maturing. A lot of newly transplanted hair starts to grow in thin and colorless, not to mention different in texture. As the hair grows and matures, it will thicken, dark in and change and texture to be more like your natural hair. So, in addition to answering the above questions, showing us some pictures would also be helpful. If you did undergo hair, transplant, surgery, I do suggest posting photos of your hair before surgery, immediately after surgery and then what your hair looks like now. I hope this helps. Bill - Rahal Hair Transplant
  22. @UKLad81, I personally had for Hair, Transplant, Procedures, and in my opinion, they are or very similar. For the most part, your experience should be the same especially if you choose the same surgeon. Obviously, each hair procedure comes with his own set of potential risks and since you are undergoing, FUT, there is always that potential risk of scar stretching. However, as long as you follow your doctors postoperative instructions, like I said, everything should be fairly similar, and each hair transplant should just add density and fullness to the previous one. I hope this helps. Rahal Hair Transplant
  23. @Eli_Avdikian, Has your donor area been red this entire time or did it only just start becoming red again as if something started to aggravate it after all this time? It seems unlikely that your donor area would have been red for this entire duration. As a result, I suggest seeing a dermatologist to see what they have to say about it. You may also want to speak to your hair transplant surgeon, especially if you are experiencing extremely elongated postoperative redness. Best wishes, Rahal Hair Transplanxhb
  24. @wouldLikeMoreHair, Itit really depends on what you mean by “row planting“. If you are referring to even rose where all follicles are lined up and space exactly the same width and length of part, then yes that should be avoided as it will not look natural. However, staggering the grafts, spacing them at various distances depending on various factors, using different types of grafts such as single, double, triple and quadruple haired grafts, shingling the grafts to aid in density through the overlapping of hairs, etc. does in some ways still appear row-like although the rose want me completely even which is why today’s modern hair transplants in the right surgical hands natural and not like doll hair or cornrows. i hope this helps.
