WB: My apologies - you are correct; I did not read all of your posts. The bottom line is that it is a cost/benefit situation. For me, the benefits far outweigh the costs. And of course, by "costs", I mean more than just the cost of the system and supplies; you need to be willing to take the time to maintain the system properly.

Your posts would be more valid if you (WB & Daniel) actually had experience wearing a hairpiece. You're both making assumptions and projections that just aren't accurate.

A well-made and well-styled hairpiece is essentially impossible to spot. The hair color, density and texture will blend invisibly with your natural hair. Everybody feels paranoid at first, but that passes over time as you become more experienced and more comfortable with it. You can swim with your hair system on if you're using the right kind of tape. If you have it attached properly, it is impossible to find the seam where your natural hair ends and the hair system begins. Most people who have negative views about hairpieces have never worn a really good piece - or they make their judgements based on the people they see wearing awful, obvious systems in shopping malls, restaurants, etc.

Traction Alopecia is a real concern, but if you will only be attaching for a few hours at a time and only a couple of days a week, I think your risk will be minimal.

It takes a bit of time to get used to wearing a hair system. EVERYBODY is nervous early on - I remember that I looked in every mirror I passed to make sure my system looked right. That lasted for about 2 months, but once I found a good supplier, a good stylist and got comfortable with attaching and removing, I learned to enjoy having hair again.

Geez, you guys are so negative! A few comments: 1. Attachment, removal & cleaning take a total of about 30 minutes each week. 2. I am almost never aware that I am wearing my hair system. 3. Traction Alopecia has not been an issue at all. 4. Most people who don't like hair systems never took the time to: a. Get used to wearing it (takes about 4 - 6 weeks) b. Learn about different attachment methods and products. 5. It took me a while to find the right on-line seller, but once I did, attachment became simpler, the system looked more natural, etc. 6. Early on, I was constantly looking in every mirror I came across to make sure it looked right. I got over that in about a month. 7. Like most things, there is a learning curve. 8. I look a LOT younger with hair. 9. You will start feeling more confident about your appearance after a couple of months, so you just need to get over the (natural) insecurity that occurs early on. 10. You have to be willing to deal with good-natured joking from friends and also very earnest comments from people who try to reassure you that you look great without hair and that you don't need it - or who say you looked better without it. 11. You have to wear hair because YOU want to - not to cure your insecurity about your baldness or to impress others or to meet more women. Those things will probably happen, but your main reason for wearing has to be that you like the way you look with hair - period. 12. The best hair systems are totally (I mean it!) undetectable. Forget the nightmare stories - there are a lot of crappy hair systems and unethical sellers out there. When you find the right supplier and a good stylist, you're gonna love the way you look.

Hair systems can be difficult, but once you get the hang on how to attach, remove and care for them, it's not difficult at all. If Rogaine or other legitimate treatments grow back your hair, there is nothing better - BUT if not, a high-quality hair system is a great alternative. ...You need to start with a good system from a good supplier. That system will match your hair color and density and, when cut in by a skilled stylist, will blend perfectly with your own natural hair. It used to be that if you wanted the best attachment, you needed to use a liquid adhesive. Liquid adhesives are time-consuming and messy to apply, remove and clean up. There are some terrific new tapes on the market. Attaching your system with tape takes only a few minutes and, depending on which tape you use, can last up to 10 - 14 days before it needs to be replaced. There is a learning curve, like with everything else, but after a while, you'll stop worrying if it looks right or if anybody can tell that you're wearing a rug - you'll even forget that you have it on. Yes, high quality hairpieces are available on line for less than $400. Regarding lasers - here's the latest info I am aware of. Lasers alone just don't grow hair. A combination of laser and minoxidil has been shown to achieve minimal hair growth in some people, but still won't grow hair on smooth scalp - only in areas with thinning hair. Lasers alone have been shown to improve the quality of the hair - make it stronger & healthier. I suppose that can create the appearance of more hair. In other words, the results you achieve are hardly worth the cost.

Hair Guy: Yes, they sell Toppik and offer "Laser Therapy". Toppik and other concealers aren't exactly high-tech products and Lasers are a great way to grow minimal hair at maximum cost. If their hairpieces are good, that's one thing. But everything I see on their site tells me this is not a company I want to do business with.

Their pictures look nice, but I am always suspicious when the word hairpiece is never used. This company's website is very impressive - lots of glam shots, etc., but they say nothing about what their product really is. That sounds like salesmanship, not honesty. And they call their facility a clinic? That's just more of the same nonsense. The implication is that their procedures are more sophisticated or medical in nature. These people are selling hairpieces! All of these sales techniques are intended to imply that their products are of a higher quality or employ some sort of advanced technology and it just isn't so. Just about any hair system can be attached and removed daily using tape. Will it be detectable during intimate moments? That depends on the system, how well it's made, the base materials and how it's attached. You'll get the best results by using either tape or liquid adhesive around the entire perimeter so that there are no gaps. The easier solution is to ask your companion not to touch your hair...give any excuse you want.

I've seen their site & video before. They are selling ThinSkin hairpieces - nothing more. Forget about their statement that they are "creating follicles" and "follicular patterns" and all that double-talk nonsense.

Labrat: I am confused. If your cousin waited until 2 weeks after the wedding to tell his wife he wore a hairpeiece, then that means they didn't have sex until 2 weeks after they were married. If your theory is true, then they couldn't have been intimate before that because she would have discovered his hairpiece. And if he waited until after the wedding, then I think he is as big a jerk as she is. You obviously have some real issues with hairpieces, because otherwise, you wouldn't waste your time writing lengthy messages here. You're not helping anybody - so your reason for writing must be a selfish one. Since your story about your cousin sounds fishy, I suspect you were the one who got busted. Maybe you should be in a lab somewhere finding a cure for baldness rather than ranting about something you seem to have very little knowledge of.

Here is EVERYTHING you need to know about re-growing hair... You will NEVER need to search the internet for a legitimate, safe and documented solution to hair loss. You won't need to go looking for it because it will come to you! It will be the front-page headline in every newspaper, it will be the cover story for every major news magazine and the lead story on every TV newscast, local, national and international. It won't cost $37 and it won't be sold on a website whose homepage is one long, rambling, grammatically incorrect sentence.

The laser is highly effective at removing money from your wallet, but I wouldn't expect any other results. Whenever I see some hair-re-growth product advertised in a newspaper, radio ad, on TV or on-line, I tell myself: If this product REALLY worked as well as claimed, it would be BIG, BIG news: You'd see it on the cover of Newsweek, it would be the lead story on national and local news programs, on MSN and Yahoo news - everywhere. Are any of you old enough to remember when Rogaine first hit the market? It was HUGE news and people everywhere were talking about it - and the same was true in the early days of hair transplants. If the laser was genuinely effective, the buzz would be as big as it was for Rogaine and transplants.

So which one are you? Susan or Russell? Or are you just shilling for them? We've heard this nonsense before....

I get the feeling that you're a "troll", promoting this company's very expensive products either because you work for them or are being paid to promote them. I have read their website and it is filled with half-truths and outright lies. Here are a few points: 1. A 100% ThinSkin base will NEVER be cooler than a lace base - NEVER! Some companies punch a few holes in the base and call them "breathable" but it makes no difference. A ThinSkin base covers the pores of the scalp and will not allow body heat, perspiration or scalp oil to escape. 2. A custom-made lace base will hug the scalp as well as a ThinSkin base. 3. This statement from their website is complete nonsense: "Each hair is infused into a liquid silicone that forms its own follicle around the hair root". A follicle is part of the scalp, not part of the hair - and the root doesn't exist in a hair system. There are root "ENDS", but each hair would need to be pulled out of the head individually in order for the root to be intact. When the hair is cut from the donor's head, the root is not included. 4. Their prices are on the high side for a retail salon, but do NOT assume that they are offering anything that is not available from other high-end salons. In addition, the best of the on-line sellers offer the same products at much, much lower prices with no sacrifice in quality. 5. Would you really want to buy from a supplier who needs to stoop to lying about their products in order to make a sale?

A good hair system looks 100% undetectable - and I MEAN 100%! I have been wearing hairpieces with lace bases for years. They allow air and water to reach the scalp. I shower and shampoo while wearing my hairpiece and that eliminates perspiration and scalp oil - no odor whatsoever. If a hair system has an odor, it's probably because the base is a solid material like ThinSkin, which doesn't allow the skin to breathe or allow air and water to reach the scalp. Attaching and removing does require a bit of time and care. If you use tapes, it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to attach and about 5 minutes to remove. If you use liquid adhesive, plan on 20 - 30 minutes to attach and 30 minutes to clean up - but you only need to do it once every 5 - 14 days. To try a hairpiece for one day (or even one week) makes no sense - it takes time to get used to it, but once you're used to it, you won't even know it's there.

I didn't mean that I wear my piece one day per week, I meant that you have the option of removing it every day, once a week, once every 2 weeks, once a month, etc.
