  1. Here's a 7 month update on our patient who'd had several brow and hairline procedures by 2 different plastic surgeons. Despite all that, a masculine hairline remained. So we packed the scars, going into the temple hairline and feminized the hairline 7 months ago. Our short video update shows good early results, and the procedure video is included at the end of our update. The video is: Dr. Lindsey
  2. Smoking shrinks small blood vessels and decreases oxygen to tissues. Studies that I had to learn back in the 90s suggested that for facial plastic surgery, best to quit at least 10 days preop. Less important postop actually, but I'm virtually certain that hair gets revascularized by plasmatic imbibition, like skin grafts, and thus the hairs are trying to die for about 10 days... And if that isn't enough, in 23 years of surgery, we've had 1 facelift infection in nonsmokers and 1 hair infection in nonsmokers, and about 10 in each group in smokers. So don't smoke. Dr. Lindsey
  3. So our very interesting and fun patient sent another email, now 6 months...that's right...6 months...out from his latest procedure saying he's ready for more hair. We go back 5 years with this guy, and I initially recommended 2 strip cases. If we'd have done that, he'd likely have been "done" (although maybe not...he is hair greedy!), years ago. As it was, he was sure he always wanted a crew cut, so we did LOTS of FUE. We got him to where he wanted...nice crew cut up top, no donor depletion or significant scarring in the back. Then what happened??? He wants more hair. Eventually it just got difficult to do more extractions....FUE definitely causes LOTS of subcutaneous scar tissue that limits future removal without avulsing roots. Nobody but Dr. Feller talks about that, but its absolutely true, and obviously more in some people than others. Well anyway we needed to switch to MFUE after starting a low yield FUE due to that scar tissue. Obviously we got near strip quality grafts and he loved the extra hair. And then he wanted another. SO 6 months ago we did another and that is likely JUST STARTING TO GROW...but he's ready to schedule more. Now lots of guys are like this....you have to wait for a variety of reasons...healing, to know where to put hair, to make sure things worked.... But I know this guy well, he'll be in next spring and we'll see what if anything we need to do. Actually I'll try to push him out 18 months to let him get the max out of the last case before we contemplate anything else. I think we're near the point of diminshing returns for future endeavors. He knows that. Hair greed hits most people. I put up a female video this week...she has it. Many men get it. And at the end of the video Wendy comments on a senior military guy on whom we did a scar repair (surgery by well known clinic elsewhere 5 years ago), just last month. I talked with him for 2 months about how I though he should get more hair and scar repair now. He was SURE he'd never want hair, just wanted his scar better. He came in Wednesday with a buzz cut, an ALMOST indetectable scar, and brought up "when can we schedule a strip case?" My initial answer was...30 days ago... So if you're hit with hair greed, you're in good company. The video is: Dr. Lindsey
  4. This is one of my most shown cases in the office...why? Because this guy shaved his head after his strip case and showed what a great scar...with shockloss from cautery...looks like. By 5 months he was growing and looking good. He stopped in last week, 8 years out and looks good. He did a short interview in our video. Enjoy. The video is: Dr. Lindsey
  5. Zero moustafa... If you are my patient, I would be happy to see you in the office. In fact, as I tell EVERY patient, I want to know what is going on...and wonder if I saw you at the month, 6 and 12 month visits and noted anything. No point in replying to me on those issues online....I couldn't reply back due to privacy issues. Give a call and get in to see me please. I also suggest to everyone...that they get medical information from their doctor first, and usually at the onset of trouble, not 3 years later. So if you are nearby, please give the office a call and come in. It looks like you exhibit a good scar with diffuse thinning but let's leave the speculation alone, and come in for a visit. Dr. Lindsey
  6. Thanks Yeah I constantly am telling these guys coming in that I am sure are going right down the street for a cheaper case...just make sure you know what you're likely to get from any particular doctor...and how's the best way to do that..... watch videos and search forums like this. Nevertheless other folks' slick marketing keeps me in the repair business. I'd prefer the first time around business though...better use of hair. Wendy does get a lot of attention. She and I went to a zep cover band last week and it was a constant stream of dudes coming to talk to her. We stand at the stage, and the band noticed her outfit. Everyone is happy. Wendy gets free drinks, I get to see the guitar guy playing up close. Dr. L
  7. Sean Take your time and get all of your questions etc figured out before you proceed. THAT is why Wendy and I do all of these videos. I'm not sure if you are the guy who I was short with last week when a guy called and I thought he was a salesman... but if you're that guy, again sorry for the confusion. Either way, thanks for your service to our country. Dr. L
  8. Good pickup... As you may know...computers and I have a mutual dislike....so my imac broke...I followed all the rules...shipped it for service etc...got cracked screen in transit... So this is the first or second video with my new computer replacement, you might hear the cooling thing in the background as it arrived with too few ports for my mic... And yes, our lighting hadn't been calibrated but it had been a month since we did a video so I needed to get SOMETHING up. There are 2 newer ones that I think we're back to our prime. Dr. L
  9. So most of you guys know that I am very picky on female hair restoration. The candidate must have adequate donor hair and reasonable expectations! Men too, but particularly women, who even more frequently than men...get deceived into poorly planned surgical misadventures, so its key that preop counselling is thorough. But I like to work with good candidate females, who just like men... turn out with very nice results as long as a carefully planned procedure is carried out with attention to detail. This is a great example of such a female. She lives locally and stopped in last week at 7 months. Just like many men...she thought she was "done growing", but in reality, she's probably got 30-40% more to come over the next 6 months. Hopefully we'll get her back next spring for a final check in. So look at her video, despite a significant color mismatch...she looks awesome. And women...listen to her...do your research BEFORE you book a case. And see examples of the doctor's work! Just like those tv ads advertising stock and investments...past performance is no guarantee of future results...BUT...you are far more likely to get a good result from a doctor who has a track record of good results, than a doctor with no examples for you to see. The video is: Dr. Lindsey
  10. Here's a guy some of you may remember. He's a younger health care worker who got a "discount FUE" locally which he said didn't grow. Then, the same group repaired him via strip. Unfortunately, the strip was harvested too low, poorly closed, and widened. AND he has sparse results from that "repair". So we did a strip sewing up to his old wide scar, packed his front, and he looks great. And of course more growth will come over the next 6 months. Like a lot of guys, until he sees the pictures, he is not sure if we made progress. Watch the videos, first one is current, and includes his 6 month visit as well. Second one is his case. The videos are: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  11. This mid-60's health care professional had a bunch of cases before he got here. Fortunately he has plenty of the best donor hair on the planet! We excised some scarring, got 1800 grafts and PACKED his hairline, and middle third of his scalp. He's 9 months out and stopped in last week. Remember, it'll be 15 or 16 months til he's fully grown in but already looks great. As usual, once a repair case starts growing...many guys start planning another. My advice..wait til we see what, if anything, they really need... The video is here: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  12. I can't tell..did you get an HT and SMP both or you tried SMP first and are thinking of HT? Either way...looks like people are agreeing its a 2 case deal. Dr. L
  13. Some of you guys may recall this fellow. We did a frontal "U" working around his tuft way back....and his wife, who comes periodically for botox...sent in pics at about 3 years. When she called last week for an appointment, I said to send a few pics of her husband that I could post...UNFORTUNATETLY she sent pics of him holding their new baby...showing both husband and baby's face...neither of which I have permission to show. So forgive the final pics, that are cropped and only show his hair, now 8 years out and still looking good. He's a world traveller and hasn't been back since the 1 year pics. Maybe wife can get me some better pics by next visit. Pics are at surgery, 5 months, 17 months, 3 years, 8 years. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  14. Congratulations. Post some pics so we see your starting point and your journey. Who did your case and how many grafts? Dr. L
  15. Ok guys... there are 2 graphic pics in this video..so anyone squeemish...DON'T LOOK. But we go over our successful scar improvement from 8 years ago who was in a few weeks back...and he texted me a warning on getting his sutures out by a doctor who'd never removed sutures....despite me telling the doctor what to do..and sending that doctor the video we have on our website showing us taking out sutures... The video is: Summary...scar revision can be successful...AND if someone is struggling getting the sutures out...there is a problem. Dr. Lindsey
  16. Ok guys...anyone in the Tri state area who wants to meet and discuss options, please give my office a call and we'll set a short visit up in Avalon NJ. I saw 11 guys last year and the sight of me in shorts didn't scare anyone off. And current or previous patients from the shore interested in the usual Circle Pizza dinner, just email me. We'll probably do that Monday night Aug 28. Wear your sunscreen. Dr. Lindsey To schedule a consultaion call the office 703 356 3260.
  17. Curious girl, I feel your pain. I guess it depends on the doctor you go with but we CONSISTENTLY have low growth in hairpiece wearers, yet not any trouble in 4 fighter pilots who were back in the helmet at 12 days... So I will not offer surgery to system wearers...and almost weekly I see a celebrity on TV that we did....who swore he would not wear a system postop...and have 2 cases with me...wearing the same unsightly hairpiece he has always worn...and he never returned after suture removal. Drives me crazy as its an AWFUL hairpiece. Everyone in the country knows its a wig. We do have a few female patients who have easily gotten by with scarves postop with no problem. Good luck to you. Dr. Lindsey
  18. This guy was able to pop in this week. He's 11 months out and still has some growing to do but looks good. He's in a position where I can't show his face, but I do have a video of his donor area with a #3 cut included. Other than his fine hair and color contrast, which work against him..., he looks great and we brought his hairline down about an inch...that's 2.54 cm for you Euro guys. The video is: Dr. Lindsey
  19. Some of you guys may recall our patient from last winter. He's a 66 year old guy who had a bunch of "sprinkling" hair transplants over the years, has LIMITED donor hair, a tight scalp...and wants to define his hairline. He popped in this week with his NEW YOUNG WIFE and looks great...AND he has only just started to really grow in. He's a world traveller but I think we'll be able to get a real 15 month postop video when he's fully done...and as usual...the new wife asked if we could get another case out of him.... Newlyweds.... The video is: AND his original video showing how we do hairline repairs is: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  20. So I recognize that young guy hair transplants is controversial. Here's another one and in this short video I reiterate what I have said in all the other young guy videos... 1. Plan for the future...get a mature hairline...not a 23 year old hairline 2. Bring your parents to the consultation 3. Plan on future surgery being needed. 4. There is no rush....take your time and make the best decision for you (at any age...but particularly younger guys...as once you start down this road you can't back up). The video is: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  21. Here's a different post...we show a college man on whom we did roughly 850 grafts to repair a bald patch that he was born with. The video is: Sorry the volume is low...still having editing software/hardware issues but I think they'll be fixed tomorrow. Watch that volume about 3.5 minutes in...it gets loud in the interview part for about 20 seconds. Dr. Lindsey
  22. So here is an update on our professor. She's at 13 months and still out of state....so the pics in the video she took with her phone. She looks awesome. The video is: Her surgery video is: If the video is skippy...I'm having either software or hardware issues...each vendor blaming the other....thus I haven't posted in a week or 2 and needed to get this up even before the video issue completely resolved. Hopefully our patient will add her 2 cents too. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
  23. This lady may be remembered from her 6 month pics. Since then we figured out she originally came to me in 2009...and I recommended 2000 grafts. She got 650 or so from a local competitor and then we put in 1370....to repair that sparse case. So in the end...it did take the 2000 I suggested. Unfortuately she had to have 2 cases, but now she looks great. Roughly half way through the video we show her and comb her hair. I asked her if she'd contribute her 2 cents to the forums, since she is a medical publisher...but I'm not confident we'll hear from her online. The video is: Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
