  1. From the pictures you posted, your crown doesn't look like it needs additional work. I'm impressed the crown grew so much by now. How did you take care of your hair for the first few weeks after surgery? Did you wear any hats at all?
  2. Hi there. I think a lot of the questions you have here aren’t too important regarding the success of a potential transplant, which is understandable if you’re new to this world. As someone who had a bad surgeon and then needed repair in the future, you want to treat consultations as if you’re interviewing surgeons to screen if they’re suitable to hire or not, especially if you’re going to Turkey. Here are some questions that I think would be important: - How long will grafts be out of body from extraction until they’re all implanted? (Out of body too long lowers chance of graft survival) - What is the surgeon’s involvement in the surgery? Will they be involved in every aspect of the procedure? - What is the surgeon’s transection rate? - What are the experience of the technicians and how long have they been working together as a team? - How many grafts per square centimeter can be achieved? - What punch sized will be used (if you’re doing FUE)?
  3. Wow, this looks like a one-and-done procedure. Congrats!
  4. That's strange that there's still itchiness. Not sure what that means, but it should be okay. Right now I take finasteride, dutasteride about 3 times a week, and 2.5 mg oral minoxidil. I feel like medication has decreased the amount of hairs that would fall, but I haven't noticed much regrowth in my crown area. I was on 5mg oral minox but recently switched back to 2.5mg because I started having a big shed after upping to 5mg and I just don't want to deal with that right now.
  5. No, I don't recall having itchiness in my scar. Have you always had that? Only felt some pain and soreness in my scar for like 3-4 months after my Diep surgeries.
  6. Should have celebrated with 7/11 Thai milk tea instead. Just kidding. Everything looks good so far. Keep us posted.
  7. I'll have to wait another 8 months to see how my scar repair turns out, but I don't think 600 will be enough. My doctor initially planned on adding more hair to the scar, but he felt like my beard donor wasn't that good and so we did less. If I get SMP, then it would probably look pretty good, but I don't like the idea of spending $2,000 every 4 years to redo the SMP. I don't want to populate your thread with my photos, but I have photos of my scar posted in my thread in my signature. I also posted a four month update recently with current photos of my scar. I think you should consult with other doctors. I can't see your full head in the pic provided, but I feel like you'd have enough donor hairs for a second transplant.
  8. My scar is pretty much the same size as yours. I had about 600 beard hair grafts transplanted into it four months ago and it's growing pretty well, but I could tell my scar is still going to be a problem. I don't know what your hair loss situation is like, but you seem to have a good donor so perhaps you could have some hair transplanted in the scar.
  9. Yeah, I know it looks messy. I usually shave down my neck hair everyday with shaving cream and a razor but sometimes I just go quick and careless with it so it ends up uneven. Eh, I got bigger issues with my hairline so I don't really care about what's back there lol. Thanks Gatsby. Looking forward to see how things progress the next couple months.
  10. Four months now. Some slight improvements, but still hoping for better. I know it's still early at four months, but I do feel a little worried. For my last two surgeries, most of my grafts sprouted at around 3 months with the last ones coming out around 5 months. Right now, I've noticed some grafts have sprouted, but there are still quite a few gaps that I'm hoping get filled in. The beard grafts in my FUT scar have been doing pretty well. My scar from Dr. Diep is still quite visible if my hair is cut with a 7 guard or below, so I'm planning on sticking with an 8 guard from now on. Front: Left: Right: Scar:
  11. I got beard grafts put into an FUT scar. If you have a full beard, then you could probably get an extra 2,000-4,000 grafts from there .
  12. Well, when you're ready to share, I and I'm sure others would appreciate it. It would also help prospective patients to make a more informed decision regarding who they choose for surgery. There was a somewhat recent Diep case where only 500 grafts were taken by FUT and even that patient was left with a wide scar.
  13. Sorry about your experience. I read your thread and everything is indicative of Diep...prioritizing his (financial) concerns over yours, trying to coax you into paying for another procedure, etc. I too have a terrible scar from him and can't even cut my hair below an 8 guard without it being visible.
  14. Apparently A-cell aids and speeds up growth, but it doesn't seem to have much benefit. There are many people who don't get A-cell and have the same growth timeframes of patients who do get A-cell. I had A-cell twice and I don't think it did much.
  15. You have good growth already. By 6 months, the front should pretty much look completely full and then an additional few months for the crown to fill in.
  16. I've been taking oral minox for about 3 months now. I started with 2.5 mg every day and recently began taking 5mg every day. The only side effect I've noticed is that I would get some weird pulsations in my left arm. I don't know if it's connected with the oral minox, but it would go away if I stop taking it. I noticed the pulsations started again after I upped the dosage to 5mg. As for hair growth, I don't think I've noticed any improvements yet.
  17. For my case, SMP would help but my scar would still likely be an issue since it's so wide. I recently had beard grafts put into it, but I am still expecting the scar to be a problem. If you have a good scar from H&W or another doc, then you can get SMP and camouflage it pretty well. However, you would have to redo your SMP after every four years or so since the ink is not permanent and fades within time. Of course, if you're willing to keep your hair at the length it is now, then you wouldn't need to get SMP. 3,500 - 4,000 is possible for one session of FUE, but yes it is a bit much and would probably be better to split. There are great FUE docs like Mwamba, Freitas, Couto, etc. You also seem like you can grow a beard as well and those can act as backup grafts if you need them. But if you are fine with keeping your hair at a certain length and want some extra grafts, then FUT is fine as well.
  18. Just from my personal experience, I would go for FUE. I really regret getting FUT and know I'm going to regret it even more in my senior years unless I am able to significantly reduce my scar. My case is a bit of an outlier though as I went to a poor doc. H&W seem like they produce okay scars for the most part. Are you planning on consulting with more docs? You look like you have a good donor area and a good surgeon could make the most out of your donor with FUE.
  19. I went to Dr. Laorwong and it was a very easygoing experience and also a lot of fun being in Bangkok. I'm still in the growth phase so I don't know how the final result is yet, though. Transportation is easy in Bangkok, all you need is to download the Grab app which is pretty much like Uber. There are also plenty of hotels and AirBnbs within walking distance of his clinic is you stay near Krung Thon Buri BTS station.
  20. 8 years is a long time. The pain of hair loss definitely outweighed the fear of getting surgery for me, though I wish I was as diligent in research as you were. Freitas seems like he stands by his work, so I don't think you have much to worry about.
