It's still a work in progress. I had the last procedure in January, so I'm 6 months out from that and still getting some growth from it. Body hair can take a bit longer to grow, so I'm hoping to still get improvements for the next few months. I'll most likely go back for another session around the end of the year and I'm planning on putting most of those grafts in the midscalp and frontal areas

Which clinic did you get your BHT done??

It takes a lot to destroy a follicle.  Consider removal.  It takes several visits regardless if electrolysis, laser, etc.  These "things" are sturdy.  Very seldom do I hear of follicle damage during any intervention.  Perhaps if there is a self immune system involved - maybe then.

A buddy of mine fell of the back of a pickup truck during accident, he scraped his scalp along the pavement and for about 2 years he had a large bald spot on the side of this head.  But the doctor said the scalp will eventually repair itself, and sure enough in the 3rd year all the hair had grown back

Thanks for finding this; it definitely seems to be his opinion that it wouldn't damage at least a transplanted existing follicle (which you would hope would also extend to native follicles). That's a pleasantly surprising answer honestly if that's really the case. Maybe the depth of the incisions doesn't go far enough to actually damage follicles that are already there? And then even if there's a new follicle above or overlapping, the existing one just kind of works the hair around or something?

I would love to see him or some other surgeon actually test and prove this.

No, I think its more a case of even if the scalpel incision did damage a dormant follicle, , that follicle will just heal itself and the new graft will grow right next to it

  4. OP has asked a really good question.

I often wondered myself something similar, what if I get a transplant and a few years later a cure for hairloss is invented.

Will that destroy the existing follicles. The answer is much pretty much no according to Dr. Bernstein. Even if you were to transplant a graft right into a dormant follicle, that graft will just come out as a double with the native hair according to Bernstein (although he does concede it might come out a bit unnatural, but I dont necesssarily agree with that).  Read what he wrote here:

Q: If a second hair transplant is performed before the first had a chance to grow could the second procedure destroy the follicles from the first? — B.M., Upper East Side, NYC

A: Hair from the second hair transplant session would not damage the follicles transplanted in the first session, even if follicular unit grafts were transplanted in exactly the same spot as in the first session.

The reason to wait until the hair grows in, however, is so that you can better plan the subsequent hair restoration procedure. If two follicular units are placed on top of each other or very close together, you will essentially be creating a mini-graft and the results will not look natural.

We advise waiting at least 8 months between sessions with 10-12 months being ideal so that the grafts of the second session can be evenly distributed among the grafts of the first

This is me a couple of years ago. I had a hair transplant years ago, but if I didn't then the entire top (everything except the NW 7 fringe) would be completely bald, but the sides would be slightly better because there wouldn't have been hair removed via FUT. About half of what's growing everywhere except the NW 7 fringe is from body hair transplants. It's improved since this picture with BHT. It's not DUPA, but it's continuously progressive baldness even after becoming a NW 7. Balding and thinning happens differently in everyone.

Wow, I feel bad for you.  That has to be one of the worst Norwood 8 I have ever seen.

Did the BHT work out for you? Are you comfortable sharing some pics??

I am starting to think DUPA is not a black and white thing. A lot of bald guys' sides and back also thins out and we call it DUPA only if it becomes too thin. Is this right?

Its definitely not a black and white thing, it affects people differently.

When the sides and back also thin out its usually not DUPA, this is called retrograde alopecia, and thats similar but a different animal altogether

Any pics of it? I have never seen a completely bald person. I have seen lots of NW7+ bald people who have extremely thin and sparse donor hair but it's still there.

Here's an example of an extreme case.  When its all said and done this poor fellow will have almost no hair left on his head

    Hi folks,

I'm close to making my booking and would love to ask some travel-related questions to any Canadians here who went with Eugenix for a transplant. All cards on the table, this will be my first time flying for a surgery and I'm a touch nervous about a few things including; carrying lots of money on my person, arranging the timing of flights + surgery, and getting the Covid paperwork sorted out and any visa paperwork.

Would love to chat with someone who flew from Canada for a surgery. Also wondering if people recommend staying an extra day to relax? As in fly down, have surgery, then have another full day to rest before leaving the following morning? Thanks.

I have travelled to over 70+ countries in my days, and the best thing you can do is hire a bilingual guide who speaks good English.  Bring this guy with you wherever you go and this will greatly make your trip much easier.  Also make sure you pay him well, dont go cheap.  In many 3rd world countries this wont cost you more than a few hundred bucks tacked onto your trip.

India is not really a 3rd world country, but you should be able to still get a guide for relatively cheap.

Maybe ask Eugenix if they can hook you up with someone??

  9. Okay, so this is for those who are thinking of travelling to a foreign country to get your HT done.

Obviously language is going to be a barrier since many people speak no English, or broken Englsih.

You download an app called 'Deepl'. Its available on android and iPhone.

Whats amazing about this app is you can speak English into it and it automatically translates into a different language.

You then press the sound button and the app speaks out whatever you just translated into the language of your choice.

You can then have that person respond verbally into the Deepl app, and the app then translates what that person said back into English.

You can have amazing, quick conversations with people.

I tried on a freind who is Mandarin and he was amazed how well it worked.

The only drawback with the app is it needs access to WiFi.

So you'd have to be on your carrier WiFi travel plan, or use hotel or other free local WiFi.

    You're welcome 👍
