  1. Congrats. If I ever get a second surgery, it will be from Dr K and it will be to add density. The man is brilliant at what he does
  2. I know that Shapiro, Konior and Rahal do FUE as well. They're not as well known for it, but I don't think you'll go wrong with them. There are a few reviews/results with them, but not as many as some of the other more well-known docs that focus on FUE. I had Konior do my FUT and I wouldn't hesitate to let him do FUE. In fact, he even offered after I bumped my head and knocked out some grafts.
  3. Ditto. Went with Konior and couldn't be happier. Do at least 6 months of research before you pull the trigger. I was going to go with another forum doc because he was local (not in the "top 5" of FUT) and am glad I changed my mind.
  4. Gabel is another good name to research. He and Dr. Konior have a good relationship.
  5. In my opinion, limiting the search for a surgeon to a certain geographical area is a BIG mistake. But hey, it's your head. Your choice in the end.
  6. This has come up before, and mav and I have similar opinions. For FUT, you have 4 out of 5 who are in North America: Hasson & Wong, Ron Shapiro in MN, Dr. Konior in Chicago and Rahal in Ottawa. Feriduni is in Belgium, IIRC. I don't know nearly as much about the top FUE guys, but Lorenzo has a very good rep. I also think Shapiro does FUE as does Konior. For my surgery, I went with Konior and am a very happy man only 9 months after my surgery. Full head of hair...any additional results/maturation is a bonus at this point.
  7. This thread and the Sam Spade thread were what made me decide to go with Konior. Coming up on 9 months and I couldn't be happier. Supposedly the grafts should continue to mature, but really, I have been sporting a full head of hair since about 6 months or so.
  8. This made me laugh out loud considering some of our off line convos. Good luck with your HT. You went to one of the top docs, and I am sure your results will be great
  9. Yes, you don't want a doctor working on you who will throw a terrible 4th quarter interception. Consistently lol. I chose to have Dr. Konior do some work on my crown, even if it was only going to be 10% coverage. Between his handiwork and the Propecia, I couldn't be happier with the crown. In a way, I am happier with the crown than the front just because it looks so great without a lot of grafts. I wanted to give a realistic review here...I think there can be some rose colored glasses at work sometimes. And I also wanted to give my authentic opinions, one of them being when I am looking in the mirror up close, I can tell it's a transplant because of follicle spacing in the front. At the same time, no one except me and a HT doctor could tell or care. Everyone says it looks great (and it does). BUT, I would seriously consider another surgery with Dr. K in the future to add to my density on the top. At the same time, if this were my only HT and my density stayed like this, I would be completely ok as well. Hope that all makes sense. Glad you and others found value in my caveated approach Glad you chose Dr. K. He's a perfectionist who takes his craft very seriously. Yes, he isn't the cheapest...but he also isn't the most expensive. Do it right or do it twice...and you don't want to be a forum horror story. I feel bad every time I read a thread where someone asks, "This clinic in the US can do it for $2 a graft. Should I do it?" No, you should not. You should save up money to do it right or not at all. That is my not-so-humble opinion. They may shed. Some of mine may have stayed in, but it was really hard to tell. The middle of month 3 was the hardest for me. Not once in month 2 did I worry about anything. I knew Dr. Konior was a great surgeon. But I had a smidge of panic surface when I thought the grafts weren't growing that great in month 3 when some others had posted what looked like "significant" growth. Then around month 4 things really started happening, and at 4.5 months I went out in public without a hat on (but with concealer) because I had a date lol. Around month 5.5 I stopped wearing concealer and it has been groovy every since. Glad I did it. Glad I did it with Dr. K. And would do it again if given the chance Oh, and like I mentioned previously. I did notice Propecia affected my libido, but not the horror stories some talk about. I have now cut back on the dosage. I cut back to twice a week, but felt that was too much (thought I may have seen hairs shedding again). So, I now take it Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday. I think that will suffice for now. I use Rogaine foam just like I have been. Once a day in the morning. But without the Propecia. I don't think the crown results would have been as spectacular as they are.
  10. Dude. I don't think you understand how this works. Looking for a HT doctor based solely on price is a recipe for disaster. If you really insist on using that as the #1 defining factor, you need to look outside the US. A good HT is an expensive endeavor. Do it right or do it twice. And you don't want to skimp on a cosmetic surgery like this. Otherwise, you'll just be another forum horror story.
  11. Well, the surgical work on the scar right after surgery doesn't look great, but time will tell. Hair seems to be coming along nicely, though.
  12. Wow. That is a horrible hack job. How DD214 (or anyone else) could have a reaction that's not, "Holy crap, that is criminal." is beyond me. They are obviously trolling, but pretending they're not. Regardless, I hope the OP gets that repaired and does a chargeback or whatever works for them. The BBB is useless, it's actually a scam run on businesses with a good consumer brand image. The BBB requires that businesses pay them. Anywho, I wish the OP best of luck. And I am willing to bet we'll never see pics of DD214's surgery. It's either vaporware or it ain't that great. Like someone else said, pics or it didn't happen. And furthermore...$2 a graft? In the US? HAHAHAHAHAHA! That's laughable. Last week I was a cannabis doctor. But now I'm gonna do hair restoration. Oh boy... "Dr. James Boland, former medical director at two large medical marijuana clinics in metro Denver, one of which has closed, said most doctors are either moving to other states or other areas of practice. Boland said he was one of the high-volume doctors that health department officials referred to the medical board, and he believes his case remains open. "I guess the jury is still out on that," he said. "I just try to do the best I possibly can and treat each patient with the same thoroughness and concern." Boland said he is moving on to another specialty — surgical hair restoration."
  13. Ok, here is essentially an 8 month update. Things are looking pretty good. Dr Konior kept my cowlick in in the back. If I had a second surgery, I might have him make this smaller, but it really doesn't bother me at all. And mind you, my crown looks pretty darn good considering there were only 1100 grafts put in there. My family who haven't seen me since the surgery were pretty amazed (the few who knew anyways). They said it looks fantastic...that there is no evidence of surgery and that it looks 100% real...but then again, it's Dr. Konior. Amazing is his middle name The only (slightly) weird thing is that some of the donor hair in the back gets a little wavy the longer it gets. Not sure if this is normal or not...don't really care...it's just an interesting development
  14. I could still see traces of pinkishness at months 5 and 6. But that's me looking at my scalp from 2 inches away in the mirror. You're in the Norwood 5 area. We're the same age, but I still had the strip of hair in the midscalp intact, so Konior put 2700 grafts in front and 1100 in the crown. Essenstially, besides the graft placement, our surgeries were very, very similar. Same age, and almost same graft count. If you want the crown covered, you'll need another one...plus Rahal could do touch-up work to other areas from the first surgery. As good as these doctors are, there is always room for improvement. I hope you're at least on Propecia for hair stabilization. Rogaine wouldn't hurt either.
  15. Ok, I keep forgeting to post some updated pics. This was taken 5 minutes ago. Things are looking pretty good. I'll take some better ones at home, but I at least wanted to get one up here that's current lol. Today it is ~7 months and 1 week since my surgery at the end of April with Dr. Konior with 3800 grafts. 2700 in the frontal 3rd and 1100 on the crown.
  16. The OP started another thread asking about the best docs in North America. I'm just saying, if you limit your search to a small geographical area, then you're (probably) going to limit the upside of your results.
  17. You, my friend, are asking all the wrong questions. You should be looking much wider than just a city. Do more research and create fewer threads
  18. Don't know anything about Alvi. Or Armani. Or any anagram of the two. What I do know is that you need to have a reputation to be considered on of the top FUT surgeons in the world. As Rahal is. As are the others I mentioned. Pictures on the Internet don't cut it. You need patient reviews and pictures. And that link posted to Armani should be enough to answer and questions about that. Regarding Turkey, the results seem to be hit or miss. In my opinion, people consider Turkey for cost first and foremost. And that shouldn't be the first reason ever for choosing a HT doc.
  19. Reason is I can't multi task when at work. Complete oversight. Rahal should be listed. I counted to 5 and stopped. I blame Hasson and Wong
  20. Konior, Shapiro (in MN), Hasson & Wong and Feller in NY. Those are the forum favorites. Gabel in Portland has some really good results as well. There are other good docs and there is risk with everything, but when you venture from those 5, the risk starts going up. That's the truth. It simply comes down to who you're comfortable with. I decided on Konior because of results and location Plus, he's super anal and does most if not all graft transplants himself. Oh, and his surgical skill regarding the scar. I didn't do as much due diligence as some, but way more than others. No one is going to have a bad result with the above doctors, bottom line. But you need to find the best fit for you, regardless of who it is. Konior may not be the best fit for everyone. Shapiro might not either. Same for the rest. But they're all good docs. I am very satisfied with my result from Konior.May have a second one in the future just to get more density, but that has to do with the area needing to be covered, not Dr. Konior's skills.
  21. You have one of the world's best, most circumspect HT doctors in the world, and traveling out to the 'burbs is too far?? You should run, not walk, to Dr. Konior's office to hear even 5 minutes of his opinion on hair. I was will to travel almost anywhere in the world for my HT. I flew 4 hours to CHicago so Dr. K could work his magic on me. Shapiro is also a good choice and "in the neighborhood."
  22. lol. Lucky man. Again. How many the first time and how many this time? Also, where? I will probably get a second 2-3 years down the road. But like I said, if this is the only one then I would have no problems with that. I keep trying to convince myself I am young. The new hair is helping Don't need my 1990 hairline. I am ok with the new one. For 7 months, I am pretty darn happy. Any other improvements at this point are a bonus. Hell, I am planning a vacation that involves surfing. So, I must be feeling pretty good.
  23. I am just trying to keep things honest, from the hair bump in the early going to how things look now. I also have a keen eye, so maybe I notice things others wouldn't care about or notice. But yes, Dr. Konior is great and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Just got a second hair cut, and things look even better than the first one...and we're right at 7 months. In regards to the crown, it isn't "perfect"...but man, for only 1100 grafts, I couldn't be happier. It's the magical work of Dr. Konior plus the Propecia and Rogaine. At the end of January (1 year on), I will be reducing my dosage of Propecia to a maintenance level (twice a week or so)...I do notice a decrease in my libido, but nothing Earth shattering. I'll post up new pics, hopefully this week.
