It should help you keep the hair you have. What sort of hair loss does your father have? If he has lost a lot more than you have I'd definitely recommend getting on the propecia.

From studies I've read it's not going to give you all your hair back. The reason they can't market it for use on the hairline is because the FDA approval only came from studies on the crown and central parts. It has been proven to regrow some hair in these areas

I got mine only last week. Studies were done on use 2 to 4 times a week. I'm going to try 3 times a week if it doesn't dry out my hair too much.

Search online for the studies. They were done with the 2% shampoo 2 to 4 times a week.

I think you can get lower concentration shampoo from places like boots or your local chemist but the studies that were done were using the 2% version. It is actually sold as anti dandruff shampoo but lots of people on here recommend it. You don't use it every day, the study was done on use for 2 to 4 days a week. I got mine off eBay, chemist 4 u, for 8 quid including postage for 100 ml. There are probably cheaper generic versions but I wasn't to bothered at that cost.

Which website did you see the finisteride on. There is one recommended on this site called ukfinisteride.info. It is greatly cheaper to order from there as your doctor can only give you a private pescription. For one month supply they will charge 40 quid! I nearly fell into that trap! Nizoral shampoo is also supposed to help as well as this is also believed to lower dht in the scalp. Bad Side effects from finisteride are reported to be less than 1%. Hope this helps!

I'm in the UK also and nearly fell into the trap of paying 45 quid for a months propecia. I've not used UKfinisteride yet but probably will in a few months. I got nizoral 2% from eBay for 8 quid. I don't no what strength they sell in boots but I think it's the lower strength. If you still have quite a bit of hair like me, you'll find it difficult to get the foam onto your scalp other than places where the hair has already gone. Hope this helps!

Got myself some nizoral and used it for the first time today. How many times a week is best to use it?

2 weeks in and only using it on frontal area and temples. Started getting occasional strange tingling sensation. I've not noticed any other loss or had any side effects. There is an article on Wikipedia relating to Rogaine on frontal area working so I'm prepared to give it a good shot! Nizoral ordered for the rest.

I don't want un use finisteride until we have our next child. I've read that a natural alternative can also reduce the dreaded dht. Saw paletto. Any body used it?

I've read about the potential benefits of nizoral shampoo and I'll also read about potential benefits of caffeine in shampoo. I've read that it can penetrate the scalp and stimulate the follicles. Anybody any thoughts or used it?

They seem to be based in India and the brand is Cipla. It brings the prices down to similar US prices.

Try living in the UK and getting it, they only prescribe propecia which is 1mg finisteride which cost ?44 for one month supply. Day light robbery!

Finisteride 5 mg dose is what they give to men with prostate problems. Propecia is exactly the same drug but 1mg. As hair loss isn't seen as a medical condition being in the UK we have to pay through the nose for it by getting a private prescription from your doctor. Boots was slightly cheaper at ?125 for 3 months supply but like you said it's still ridiculously over priced. There is a recommended site from here called ukfinisteride.info where it works out about ?250 for a year's supply but I haven't used them yet. They ship them from America. II'm 33 and If I new what I know now I'd have been taking propecia for the past 5 years to keep what I had, the only reason I'm not taking propecia now is because we are trying for a child and I don't want to take even the slightest chance on its health. Maybe I'll open up another can of worms here but here goes! What is so different to hair on the front of our head to the back or crown that is supposed to stop Rogaine and propecia working there ? I've read another article linked from here that said it could work but they can't publish the fact because that wasn't how the tests were carried out to get fda approval?

It's surely worth the minute it takes to pop the pill in vhe morning. We all spend longer than that each day checking our hair lines anyway? And not to mention the thousands of pounds people spend on needless vitamins that they probably get from their diet anyway.
