Quitting Finasteride after 15 years - what to expect.
rocketmas replied to rocketmas's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
@Ciaus . Thanks for the reply. There is no doubt and I acknowledge that age is a factor for sure. But there is no doubt that some of the outcome is due to Propecia. Documentation and research does say it suppresses the male hormone production and may cause side effects such as quality of sperm, and male breasts, etc.It may happen in a low percentage of people taking Propecia, but it does happen. Anyway, the point of my male is not to debate this but to get recommendations on best way to get off Propecia without effecting my hair. Thanks. -
Quitting Finasteride after 15 years - what to expect.
rocketmas replied to rocketmas's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
Thanks @JP28 Topical finasteride dos get absorbed into the blood and theoretically have the same side effects +/- depending on absorption. Dutasteride I have not explored yet and is not generally given as a substitute for finasteride. Its an additional supplement I believe ? Perhaps I should read about Dutasteride. How any mg/once a week do you suggest ? In which case, I should just reduce Finasteride from 1 mg daily to perhaps 1 mg every 4th day ? This may not be a bad idea .. Open to suggestions. -
Quitting Finasteride after 15 years - what to expect.
rocketmas replied to rocketmas's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
Well, so you guys know, I did what is called a standard semen test and culture, which tests volume, sperm concentration, morphology and motility. And many parameters are degraded to some extent. Do keep in mind that I have used finasteride for over 16-17 years, and I am over 50. Some degradation is due to age, but the doctor says some is likely due to finasteride. Enough literature around to say it does affect sperm quality. Therefore I am considering stopping it for some time, as an experimental test to see the improvement. I am just concerned of the impact it will have on my hair. I have spent way too much time on it not to worry. And @asterix0 yes, I am also asking how to keep the hair as I go off it. Thx -
Quitting Finasteride after 15 years - what to expect.
rocketmas replied to rocketmas's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
Thanks. Well I didn't care for the many years that I took it, but now there is clear indication that it has effected my sperm quality to an extent, and I would like to see that reversed if possible ( without any reversal of hairline ).... I will reduce slowly means I should taper over a month? And how do I keep the hair it has contributed to? -
Hi, I have been using both Rogaine and Finasteride for around 15 years. And they have helped. I have a pretty good head of hair, very much against what my genetics would have dictated. I attribute much of my good head to either/both of these medicines. Now I will need to be off Finasteride for about 6 months for fertility reasons. My question is if I stop it cold or even slowly, what to expect. Will I start shedding a lot or it will be gradual, and I can be back in 6 months with minimal head damage. What is the best way to go off this medicine ? Thanks for the advise folks. S

Nizoral Shampoo For Hair Loss
rocketmas replied to Melvin- Admin's topic in Shampoos, sprays, and concealers
I use Nizoral twice a week. BTW I also use Minoxidil 10% once a day. I used to use 5% twice for 10 years and have now moved to this just for convenience. -
Nizoral Shampoo For Hair Loss
rocketmas replied to Melvin- Admin's topic in Shampoos, sprays, and concealers
So here is my observation : I have been using Propecia and Minoxidil for over 10 years and it did what it did. For last 4 months I started using Nizoral or a 2% Ketacanzole + Salicylic Acid shampoo. I can swear to god that my density is improving, and also mini-hair are sprouting along the recessed temporal regions. Some family members and my hair stylist have commented on how much better my hair has become. I have been on this forum for 20 years and consider myself quite knowledgeable on transplants, meds, etc, and I now wish I had started this shampoo yers ago. There is no doubt about the benefits in my mind. Perhaps next to Propecia its the best thing for hair. Only downside is the drying of the scalp and I have started using coconut oil for that, and that helps. -

Growing hair back? - The Big 3 ++ Journey
rocketmas replied to Shifty's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Yes. I am in India, but have almost imported the Kirkland brand of Minoxidil because it is non-performed and doesn't leave any residue in the hair. On a whim, I started 10% and within 20 days I see improvement and fuzzy miniaturised hair sprouting. Although the product does leave a residue and leaves the hair fizzy. So I use at night once only. I like the oral ,minoxidil suggestion and can get it here. And I know people here are debating exact dosage and pros and cons. I am going to get more data on that and will definitely switch. Another question, you say minoxidil does not benefit the frontal area? This is news to me. I remember I had my first HT with Ron Shapiro ( frontal area) and he recommended I use it religiously. And a lot of people are using for frontal thinning or baldness. thx -
Growing hair back? - The Big 3 ++ Journey

Hi, You have amazing results and I can't help but think about your other supplements you take : Spectral-DNC With Nanoxodil 5%. Whats your opinion on this -? Does this help with hair ? I do believe that Cannaboids have benefits but am not sure if it does here. Is there evidence that satisfied you ? From my point own experience, I shifted to using Minoxidil 10% once a day from Minoxidil 5% and have seen improvement. There are several multiple new miniature hair grafts sprouting in the recessed area. I am hoping they grow to full length. So it is clear to me that 10% is better than 5%. S -
Thanks. Tretinoin does increase cell turnover - no doubt. So that will not really help with hair growth or will it? I guess you say hair cells will regrow faster just like tretinoin helps with face by acting as an exfoliant and regrowing cell? I would like to now more about Oral Minoxidil - does it really help more ? And what doses should it be taken ? I now use Minoxidil 10% on my head once a day, and have found new thin, small hair sprouting in the recessed areas. Whether they will grow fully, I do not know. Net, net my conclusion is that 10% is better than 5%. Thanks, S

What is tretinoin being used for ? I thought that is a anti-wrinkle product ( retinol derivative based). Does it help with hair loss ? And in what form do you use it ? I get a tretinoin gel 0.01 % here which I use on my face 1,2 times a week.

Incredible, no doubt. had a question about the supplements you use. Collagen - does that help with hair ? Thanks, -
Hi, I have used Minoxil for close to 25 years, or more since it hit the market. In between a couple of years ago, on a whim I stopped using it. I lived in the US when I started using it. Then moved to India and didn't like the local brands, as they had a fragrance and would leave a residue in the hair. So I kept importing Kirkland brand and never had an issue, till I got sick of having to import and stopped. I was also older and didn't care as much about my looks. BTW also use Propecia since it hit the market, and did not stop that as it is simpler to take/use. Within a year I noticed I had thinned a lot. So I restarted 5% once a day and noticed that the hair thickness improves and gives on overall affect of better density. and there is no denying that Minoxidil helps, and helps independent of Propecia. I recently came across 10% minoxidil being sold in 100 ml bottles and decided to give it a shot. I still use once a day and really don't want to use it twice a day, as its too much hair-care, and I am not sure that there would be additional benefits ! To me given half-life is 22 hours, using 10% once a day should be equivalent to using 5% twice a day ? Would be interested in hearing opinion from folks on 10%, once a day and twice a day ? BTW I was to have HT with Dr. Freitas on August 12, with Dr Freitas. Now schedules are all messed up. Thanks, Sean

Thanks to everybody here who gave me information on Dr Freitas work. I am due for surgery with him late April. Adam87 - how are the staying arrangements in Valencia ? I assume you stayed at the place recommended by the clinic ? I will be staying around 5 days there, and using the time to walk around and see the city once I am able to get on my feet. Thanks, S

Bjorn, Thanks Had one HT in 2004 with Dr Ron Shapiro. Been using Rogaine and Propecia from the time they hit the market. That has certainly helped. As far as colouring goes that is a skilful hair colouring. I do have reasonable grey hair. Cant do much about it but colouring helps out.. As far as skin goes, I am lucky it has held up. I am probably going the Dr Freitas way as well. Will be in touch. S
