Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Hello, I began losing my hair almost 10 years ago. Needless to say, it was a horrifying experience throughout. One doesn't really fully grasp the trauma of getting a change in appearance before it actually happens. The initial years were difficult for me. I was about 22 years old. And for someone that young, a balding look spells disaster. I became shy, apprehensive of socializing and conscious about myself. Eventually, I did start accepting baldness as a part and parcel of life. As a guy, you really aren't expected to focus on your appearance much. I wasn't going to be anything different. By providence, I joined Eugenix Hair Sciences as a Tele -medical consultant. Fairly recently, about 6 months and working here now. The doctors did suggest me transplantation. However, I never took it as seriously. Now, after a while, I finally began to think that maybe I could give it a try. Like who wouldn't want to try something when you can clearly see other people getting it done with positive results! I have been seeing the results of Eugenix in front of my own eyes on a daily basis and I started feeling that I should also get the procedure done. I don't think I'm particularly afraid of the pain or anything like that. After all I'm a tough guy (😜). But surprisingly, the surgery wasn't painful. I was 100% sure and expecting this procedure to be painful. That being said, lying down doing nothing was the tough part. In the design and planning of my procedure Dr Arika , Dr Pradeepand Dr Alok were involved. The frontal slits were made by Dr Pradeep and Dr Arika. Rest of the slits were completed by Dr Alok. The extraction of the grafts were done by Dr Alok. Few times Dr Arika and Dr Pradeep also supervised. I got 3024 grafts done for a good coverage of my frontal zone with adequate density. I also got my temples completely reconstructed. I am planning to share my progress throughout now. (I have interacted with many patients who have come from this forum to Eugenix for their procedure. Now it is my turn to share my story with others! I am taking pics of my scalp daily to keep a track of the procedure to document it for one year.) I have completed my head wash and now have started taking Finasteride as well for the minituarising hair. I am very excited to see the progress in my hair growth. And even more privileged that I get to share it with you all. It feel very supportive that there are people out there who genuinely care and would partake in my journey. I am going to keep you guys updated.
  2. **Went with non shave option( 20% extra charge)** I DONT RECOMMEND non shave option. You can read more on my day 7th post below. Hey everyone I am creating this thread as I have been active on this forum for a while and received a lot of help from the members, who helped me to make the decision for the right clinic and the doctors. I would like to return the favour and I hope my journey will help people who are looking for the right clinic and surgeons. Before I write my journey, please note that I am writing my own true personal experience and this is in no shape or form a marketing stunt for the clinic or the doctors. I wish to portray the right picture for anyone who wants to know the real experience at Eugenix and my outcome. I am not going into details about Accommodation, food etc because I flew to India to get the surgery done so I will stick to the most important parts. To be brief, you will either be picked by Eugenix staff or an OLA cab will be pre booked. You will either stay at Eugenix or a hotel which is 100mtrs away from Eugenix. I recommend that you stay at Eugenix main building. You can arrange all this with the clinic. Food at Eugenix: You can order the food depending on what you like. Please note that its very hard to find non spicy dishes. After experimenting, I could only find Afghani chicken as non spicy so check with the clinic if you dont eat spicy food. Flew on Dec 19th and reached on Dec 20th at 2AM Dec 20th- Bfast at 9 AM. My blood tests were taken around 10AM and results came in around 5pm. If possible, get the tests done in your home country and email the results to Eugenix before flying in. This will save your day as I felt that I wasted Dec 20th. I met Dr Arika Bansal around 6pm who looked at my scalp and had a short chat about next steps for Dec 21st. Dr Bansal is great so you should ask any questions that you might have. Dec 21st- Bfast at 9. Lunch at 12pm. I met Dr Sethi around 1.30PM ( Dr Sethi’s flight was delayed from Mumbai and that’s why could not meet earlier in the morning) Dr Sethi is very lively person and I felt good meeting him for the first time. My scalp and hair was looked at and I was taken to this room to draw the hairline and temples. I took my time and did some minor changes on what I wanted for myself. (This is very important. Take your time and make sure that you are happy with the hairline drawn etc.) I changed into sterile clothes for the surgery room and was taken to the operation theatre. People present in the room were: Dr Sethi, Dr Alok and 4-5 technicians. Dr Alok started giving me local anaesthesia. A vibration device was held to my head where the needle was being injected to make it less painful. This was done in an area to take my few grafts and evaluate it. The graft evaluation result: Thick healthy grafts and overall- 60% grafts- triples 40% grafts- Doubles I had no single hair in any grafts so doubles were made into singles for the hair line and the areas of the temples My blood was taken and PRP done at this stage. Local anaesthesia is uncomfortable but not something that I would scream and say Holy S**t. Basically this is given all over the head and anytime you feel a little pain, you let the doctors know and they will give you more of it. Please note that at the end of the day it’s a surgical procedure so a little bit of sting sensation will be there. Some parts of head wont feel a thing and others might feel a sting or once or twice you might say ouch !! Once head was numb for the procedure, Dr Sethi made all the slits for my hair line and temples. Dr Arika Bansal did the extractions and the technicians implanted the grafts. When extraction is done from the back of the head, you will be lying on stomach and for longer period you may feel uncomfortable. I wanted to move so I asked for a short break. It took 7-8 hours the first day and I had couple of breaks. During the breaks, the technicians would massage your shoulders and back to get the blood flowing as you are lying down for a long time. I would suggest to ask for a can of coke or another sugary drink to get your energy levels up. The room also has a TV so you can ask for your favourite music to be put on. Trust me this would help to get the time pass quicker. Grafts are being counted and written on the board. At the end of the day on 21st, I had 2112 grafts implanted on my frontal part except the hair line. The whole team is involved and after slits were made by Dr Sethi other doctors such as Dr Bansal, Dr Alok and technicians were involved. Dec 22nd- Bfast at 8AM. Surgery at 9AM. This is the day to reconstruct the temples and hairline. Slits were already there so Dr Alok gave the local anaesthesia and Dr Bansal , Dr Alok did the extraction. When the extraction was being done, the hair could not be implanted on temples simultaneously as I was lying on my stomach. The grafts might be outside for 30-40 minutes. After the extraction, the technicians implanted the grafts and was supervised by Dr Bansal, Dr Sethi few times. Please note that Dr Alok is equally good at what he does including giving the local anaesthesia. The 2 technicians who were implanting are working with Eugenix for 8 and 5 years. Day 2 took around 4 hours and 1000 grafts were implanted. Total grafts- 3112 The same day, I rested and got to the airport at 11pm as my flight was at 3:30AM on Dec 23rd. One great tip- I skipped all the queues at airport and immigration as I wasn’t shy about my surgery and went to ask for the queue to be skipped which they allowed every time. I was also the first one to board the flight everytime. I made my decision after meeting few Eugenix patients beforehand, the results, Doctors education, experience and reputation and I can say that I made the right choice. Cost of blood test- Rs 3200 Cost of medicines – Rs 5000 app.(Exc. Fin and Minoxidil) I purchased liquid form- Mixture of Minoxidil & Fin( Please note I will not be taking Fin. Tablets) 20% discount on per graft if you book in advance. 20% extra charge on non shave option. Please check their website. 18% tax is extra So this is my experience and I hope the above is helpful. I highly recommend Eugenix and according to my experience I made the right decision and was a perfect place for me to go ahead with the surgery. Do your own research before deciding but I hope my review will help you make that decision. I will keep posting my pictures and my full journey until I have full head of hair Hopefully!! All the best to everyone !!
  3. Hello Guys, Hope you are all doing well in this time of unrest, So, basically I started loosing my hairs when i was like i think 17-18, During the Initial stages I dint knew anything about hair fall or anything one of my friend suggested me Minoxidil 5%. I used that for like 2 years and i use to use only on my temples as i use to feel as I'm losing hair's only from that area. Then i felt my hair loss did not stop and I tried a homeopathic doctor which I continued for almost 2 years and I stopped that too. Since past three years I did not do anything expect may be for massing my hairs as i thought i have to any way get a hair transplant eventually. I maintained very short hairs, I believe that's the reason I have some hairs left. Now I am curently 25 years old , I have become a bit financially stable and can think of spending money on my hair transplant. I am looking forward to have a hair transplant at around february next year. I researched a few hair transplant clinics (not a lot though i just started my research a month ago), I found Korey Erdogan's result very natural and I asked him for a evaluation, He said I would need around 5000 grafts and that would cost me 12500 euros, Wow that's too expensive for me I dropped him Immediately from my List. I also asked for an Evaluation from Eugenix and Dr. Tejander Bhatti. Eugenix replied me with 3500 and finestride(which im not sure what to do) but the cost of Eugenix would be fine to me. I have not yet received any feedback from dr. bhatti yet. I am looking forward from suggestion from you guys for clinics in my range and any general suggestion is mostly welcome. I have my photos please have a look at them. Thank you guys Regards,
  4. Hello All Thank you for reading my post. I am a 27 year old Indian guy with baldness level of NW 6-7, I am considering HT in Delhi NCR region and have stumbled upon Eugenix as one canddate for HT. Over there Dr Arika recommended me a graded approach for HT with max density in the from, lower at middle and lowest at the end. Crown will be left as is and is expected to grow naturally with medications (finesteride). She also told me that I would need to be on finesteride for lifetime to arrest my progression of baldness and also for better results in the transplanted areas. I have a three part question, First, given my age, is it recommended for me to get HT now? On one hand i have pretty severe NW grade and i badly want to get HT. on the other, I do not want any life long complications at such a young age. Second, I have read about the side effects of finesteride (low libido, high chances of prostrate cancer). I do not want to depend on a medication for life long. Third, I have zeroed in on Eugenix as a possible clinic even though their prices are a little high. I felt after consultation with Dr Arika that those guys know what they are doing especially given my high grade (6-7). But if you think there are other clincs i should check out in Delhi-NCR, please do recommend. I am attaching my outline photos prepared by Eugenix to give you a better idea of my case. Thank you for your time.
  5. I underwent the hair transplant at Eugenix in February 2020 under the supervision of Dr.Arika Bansal at Eugenix , Bhubaneswar. I opted for their Comprehensive Plan and the total grafts count transplanted was 2602 by their DHT procedure. D-Day -1 : Arrived at Bhubaneswar and checked into the hotel booked by Eugenix. Went to the clinic later during the day where Dr. Priyadarshini checked the Blood Pressure and checked for any allergic reaction to the anesthesia. Few medicines were provided to be consumed at night and the next day after breakfast before the procedure. Day 0 : Arrived at the clinic at 9 a.m. Dr.Arika Bansal flew in from Gurgaon the same day morning for the procedure. I was taken in to the OT by 9:30 a.m. Dr.Priyadarshini completed the local anesthesia. The needles did pinch a little but the discomfort was at the very minimum and for a very short time before the medicines start taking effect. Dr. Bansal then walked in and made all the slits. Total slits made were roughly around 2500. The target was for 2000 grafts on the crown area and rest around the mid-scalp to add some density. No work is to be done to the hairline this time round. Once the slits were made Dr.Bansal started the extraction of few grafts and then the technicians took over and extracted and implanted the grafts at the same time. They follow a procedure Eugenix calls Direct Hair Transplant where the grafts are extracted and implanted at the same time to reduce . the time the grafts are laying outside to minimal. The rest of the extraction and implantation were done by the technicians while Dr.Bansal checked in few times to check and monitor the progress. The remaining times Dr. Anil was always there in the OT while the technicians did the extraction and implantation. I opted to complete the whole procedure and then go for lunch so that the grafts are not laying outside for long. The procedure was over around 4 p.m and post op dressing was done and i was provided with few medications. Attaching pictures of Day 0 and Day 1. Apologies for the pictures not being very clear. As i was travelling alone could not do a good job of taking good pictures myself. Will keep posted on the progress.
  6. I am pretty close to booking a date for my hair transplant with Dr Arika at Eugenix and will be documenting every step of the process. During consultation, the doctor advised me against taking finesteride within the last month or so before the transplant because it might sprout small hair and could be misleading during the surgery. I also read in another thread that Probability of shock loss can be reduced by taking finesteride before the transplant. Are there cases here where someone has undergone a hair transplant and experienced permanent shock loss, specifically when some of the transplanted hair is close to or between existing and slightly thinning native hair. I am a little worried because I have thinning hair across the back 2/3rds of my head where I am not transplanting any hair. It isn’t miniaturized but is definitely thinner than it was 4 years ago. The plan is to get on finesteride immediately after the transplant to maintain this hair for longer. Could the hair transplant cause permanent shock loss across: 1, Areas where I am transplanting hair between thinning native hair (some of the front area of my forehead) 2, Areas in the back 2/3 of the scalp where hair is thinning but not getting any transplanted hair Finally, what can I do before the hair transplant that can prevent the shock loss. @Melvin-Moderator @Zoomster @Portugal25 @paddyirishman @Azzy US @ag120 @Raphael84
  7. The index patient was 26 years old. His details are: Grafts done: 2535 Grade - 4 Donor site: scalp donor Donor quality: Good Hair calibre: Good Below are his results after 9 months
  8. Hi everyone Age : 34 Hairfall : Norwood 2 - 3 ( i think 3 doc says 2) I have been observing the forum for a month now. My friend recently had a transplant in the usa and encouraged me to look at options for my hairloss. he also guided me to this website and im very happy to see people share and learn from each others experiences. I had read reviews about Eugenix Hair Sciences and reached out to Mr Abhinay Singh, who had also posted his HT journey here. He put me through to his team and i had shared my pics with them. The team then communicated to me its better to make the observations in person and evaluate my options. I got in touch with Mr Imran at Mumbai branch of Eugenix, and made an appointment since Dr Pradeep Sethi was available in Mumbai for the week. Initial consultation was done by Dr Shrilekha. She said HT is not required immediately and advised me to take Finestride and Minoxidil for a few months to preserve the natural hair. She also suggested if im still not satisfied with results on medication i can then go for a HT. We took some photos and waited sometime for Dr Pradeep Sethi to join us. He came in and patiently walked me though my current situation by placing a camera on my head and showed me where i can expect improvements if i take finestride and where i cannot. he also said if i wanted to do the HT then i would probably need between 1500-2000 grafts. But he also seconded Dr Shrilekha and said take finestride and get in touch in a few months and then we can evaluate options for HT if i wanted them. It was overall a pleasant experience at Eugenix. I also had met a couple of people who had already done HT with Eugenix and i was interacting with them while i was waiting for the doc. Their experiences were positive and i could visibly see the improvement on them and it was good. My concern right now is taking finestride and its possible side effects. I have read some of the negative experiences from few members on the forum and im still not sure if i want to take it. On the other hand the doctor assured me that only a small percentage of people will experience side effects and i need to give meds a fair chance before deciding to go for a HT. Should i take fin and evaluate after 3-4 months or should i go ahead with HT ? Looking forward to suggestions.
  9. A 70 years old lady with high forehead approached for hair line redefinition. We did a thorough evaluation and ruled out any dermatological condition like FFA (frontal fibrosing alopecia) or AA (alopecia areata). We did close to 2360 grafts on the front and temporal area in female pattern hairline. The hair started off in 2 months and by 6-7 months she developed amazing hair! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwUymZdm3Fg
