Hi, I live in San Francisco area, and thinking of going to Tijuana, Mexico for my hair transplant, mainly because it's fcking so expensive where I live. I reached out to couple of places in TJ for the quotations, HMR and TJ Hair Clinic. They both offered USD 6900 for 3K grafts FUE. TJ offered some additional benefits like free hotel stay, airport pickup and free 1-time PRP session. What do you guys think? It seems very cheaper as compared to what I got in my area. Thanks for any suggestions.

I considered TJ Hair Clinic initially but I have since reconsidered because they look more like a hair mill with no certifiable doctors performing the procedures. If I had to guess between the two go with HMR, but do more research in finding a good surgeon.

I'm still deciding. Not sure if I need one or not. 2 clinics I've heard back from said suggested yes and one in Tijuana, Dr. Ana Hernandez of Neopel Clinic said no, that I looked perfectly fine.

Hmm, Dr. Ana Hernandez sounds genuine then. Usually these people don't lose customer/money. Hope you don't need it. I definitely need it. I'm thinking Dr. Cortez of HMR.

That’s a big difference from you don’t need surgery to needing 3,000 grafts? Can you share some pics of your hair loss with your eyes blocked out? For a clinic to say no is something that you should pay attention to. Did any clinic speak to you about taking medication for your hair loss if you are not already? All the best.

I went to Dr. Hernandez at Neopel back in June last year.  My results 9 months on are very good IMO, and can't wait to see what they look like after a few more months.  She and her husband are awesome (they both do the procedure themselves) and won't BS you when it comes to viability of a transplant.  If I were to get a second (I'm not on board yet) I'd go there in a heartbeat.  Check out my other posts for a rundown of my experience.

Let me reach out to them for the price quotations etc. So far I was inclined to Dr. Cortez at HMR

I believe I paid around $4500 last summer with Dr. Hernandez.  It's probably slightly higher now.  But that's a flat rate regardless of how many grafts they do.  I think they cap the number they do in one day.  I had close to 3,000 and it was an all-day affair.  Like 9:00 am - 6:00 pm or so

I have reached out to Dr. Hernandez, uploaded the pics. Waiting for their response. @DoubleTalkinJive apart from HT, what all meds you're currently taking which you think is key to success? I have never taken anything. Should I start some until I'm waiting for HT

Consider Dr. Nader in Reynosa.

Dr. Nader is booked for very long. I don't want to wait that long. I'm considering Dr. Hernandez at Neopel. I will share my experience. Apparently, they don't charge per graft. It's fixed price per surgery. I don't think they will go beyond 2-3K grafts per surgery.

I started Finasteride and Minoxidil a few months before my HT.  I was doing a topical solution.  I was told by Dr. Hernandez, as well as all the other professionals in the industry that I got consults from, that being on those things is non-negotiable.  You will have better success in the long run being on the meds.  I switched to oral Fin and Min a few months after the HT and I've had no side effects from any of the meds.  I don't love being on meds, but I've accepted that as long as I want to keep the hair I have, I'll be on them for the foreseeable future.

I'm going to Neopel (Dr. Hernandez) in July for my HT. I will post my experience and results.

Looking forward to seeing it.

As mentioned earlier, I chose Neopel Clinic in Tijuana, Mexico for my FUE hair transplant, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. Here are some highlights of my experience:
  • Video Consultation: The video consultation was fantastic. The team was very responsive and promptly answered all my questions throughout the process.
  • Booking Process: The booking process was straightforward and hassle-free.
  • Transportation: They provided transportation from San Diego airport to the hotel, hotel to clinic, clinic to hotel, and back to San Diego. There was no need to drive or use Uber at all.
  • Accommodation: They assisted with hotel booking, which was in a great and super safe location. They covered the cost for one night of my stay. There were many delicious multi-cuisine restaurants within walking distance.
  • Procedure: Dr. Hernandez designed the hairline, discussing my expectations and suggesting options. Dr. Miguel performed the extraction, took grafts from back and sides, which took about 4 hours and was very smooth and painless. Dr. Hernandez then did the implantation, which took around 2-3 hours, again with no pain.
  • Support Staff: Three amazing assistants helped throughout the procedure.
  • Cost: They charge a fixed price rather than per graft. I paid $4.5K and they were able to extract around 2K grafts (4K hairs).

I would highly recommend this clinic, and it was my first time in Tijuanna, didn't see or feel any safety issues at all. I will go there again after 1 year to cover my crown area. As per them my donor area has good supply.

Attaching some pictures. Today is my 3rd day, touch wood no pain so far (didn't take any pain killer after the surgery). Just taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pills. I can see little bit swelling on my forehead, that's about it. Can't wait to see my results. Fingers crossed. I will keep you posted.

Thank you for writing about your experience so far. How long a drive is it from the San Diego airport to the hotel? I think it would be great if we can find a few more great Drs just over the US border in Mexico. It's much easier to go there and save a lot of money instead of flying half way around the world. I'll be watching for updates.

Glad to hear you went with my advice. Let's hope this turns out well. I may consider Neopel again since every other clinic I talked to suggested I could benefit from a hair transplant.

@Al - Moderator The drive from San Diego Airport to the hotel took just around 15 minutes, with no hassle or documentation checks at the border. On the return trip, the clinic issued a medical pass, allowing us to use a preferred lane that is usually much less crowded than the regular one. This time, it took us approximately 30 minutes. But some days (or timing of the day) could be busier than others.

@Melvin- Admin @Al - Moderator I'm little confused whether I should take oral Minoxidil v/s oral Finasteride. My surgeon told me to take Minoxidil instead of Finasteride, whereas other clinics I had reached out to (e.g. Eugenix) had suggested Finasteride. I have noticed some folks in this forum take both. If I have to pick one, which one should I start with? Given the age (43) and baldness level (NW6), should my focus on regrowing v/s maintaining what I have? Which one does what? Thanks for any pointers!

I'd prefer oral finasteride if I had to pick only one. A lot of people do take both fin and min. I personally don't take hair loss meds any longer. I don't like being on long term medications. However If you want to try meds, I think using both oral finasteride and oral minoxidil is a good combination. Finasteride mainly stops the hair loss and minoxidil helps the hair grow, so they work well together if you can tolerate both of them.

Do new hair really grow in 40s, especially on the front/top side?

Btw, one more question. Today is 11th day since the transplant. I don't see any scabs (white drying flakes) yet on the recipient area. Is that normal?
