Update on folliculitis:

Just shaved bald and blegh it looks rough. The folliculitis has definitely died down but the aftermath is brutal. I am really hoping that it doesn’t lead to permanent scarring. Any thoughts/advice on how to lessen its impact?

Did you get any reason why you got folliculitis?

I did not. I know one of Buchwach's other patients that I've been chatting with on Reddit also got it. When I initially called in to discuss medical therapy for it he also said he had been helping a few other patients with the same problem that week as well.

Hello, hope the folliculitis subsides and you have a great result. But the first thing you should do IMO is stop shaving any part of the head, for the time being.

(I know it's my first post here but felt like this needed to be said)

I appreciate the comment! Can you point me towards the sources that support your recommendation? My folliculitis has fortunately subsided dramatically after going on antibiotics and washing the recipient area 2x a day with anti-bacterial soap. During this time I have continued to buzz my head down to a 0 guard :).

Happy to hear it's subsided!

I know a lot of people buzz their hair very soon after a transplant with no problem, I'm just thinking it's best to avoid any type of additional stress if your scalp is already irritated.

3 month update:

The folliculitis has subsided quite a bit but I still have some popping up here and there. I have been keeping my head shaved to a 0 guard but let it grow out a bit more for the pics here. I’m definitely starting to see additional growth around the hairs that didn’t shed. Hopefully the hyperpigmentation continues to subside and there is no additional scarring across the hairline from the folliculitis.

Med updates:

Im still taking 2.5 oral Minoxidil daily with no noticeable side effects. I also started taking 1mg Finasteride every day vs 3 days a week after a couple months with no sides.

Is this where the fun finally starts?

Never heard of this doctor. Good luck pal

He was recommended in this forum many, many years ago. He actually co-authored a book with Dr. Konior in the late 90s on hair transplant techniques. Time shall tell!

4 month update:

Lots of growth over the last month. Looking great in favorable light — still bald in my temples in unfavorable light. Definitely not going to try growing it out any longer than this for another couple of months at least. Redness is also still hanging around which is unideal 😎.

@airporteffect Good to see that folliculitis is subsided very well....from your pics i can see many grafts popping out ....its good that you are on oral minoxidil ..that will really help you to get better growth....you can now try to grow hair longer imo...or you can do it after one month maybe....best of luck ...will be following your journey closely ....

You probably want to start letting it grow out at this point.
