Daniel,

Welcome to the forum.  It’s good that you’re here beginning to research your options. Keep in mind that finasteride and minoxidil are really the only proven medical solutions to treat hair loss.  Saw palmetto has been said to be an herbal DHT inhibitor however, there is no real proof that it actually works.  If it does it’s typically quite moderate compared to finasteride. Of course, finasteride comes with potential side effects whereas saw palmetto typically doesn’t.

Regarding hair transplant surgery, you don’t seem to have extensive hair loss at this particular point however, just be careful - because while everyone has a budget, the last considerations for selecting a surgeon should be location and price.  Ultimately, selecting a surgeon with a long proven record of producing outstanding results and a stellar reputation is crucial.

Going to a surgeon just because they are cheaper or are local is risky and if they aren’t as skilled or experienced, you may end up with results that look quite unnatural requiring a repair procedure which will be much more costly, not just financially but on your limited donor supply. Just be careful in your research and selection process.

Best wishes,

In my opinion, do not get a hair transplant. Medication should be your first line of defense against the fight of hair loss. After 6-months to a year you can revaluate. You may need less grafts, and of course save money.

If I were in your situations I would do my best to get on medication (Finasteride) and give it a year to see whether you hair loss will progress or not.

Melvin above me took the words out of my mouth (what a legend he is)

If the hairloss is stable, you may proceed to get a hair transplant as i am sure you would like a hairline.. nothing crazy and definitely do not lower the hair.

When the time comes, make sure to do your research about picking a doctor.

For now... be patient and listen to others opinions aswell. You are still young and a whole life ahead of you. Now is the time to make wise choices
