Senior Member TommyLucchese Posted July 16, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted July 16, 2021 My mum used to say I had a double crown. I always assumed it just meant extra thick but apparently it means you have two whorls. I want to get a HT in the next year or two on my crown to rebuild it. I am wondering if having a double crown makes things more difficult? Maybe more grafts are required? Does anyone know anything about this? I haven't seen it discussed before. 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now. Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018. Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week. Senior Member deeznuts Posted July 16, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted July 16, 2021 I've got a double crown as well funnily enough. When I went for an in person consultation the doctor pointed it out and it was a huh moment. Anyway, if all the hair is gone in the crown, couldn't you just ask for a single whorl? Did the doctor say anything about what it means for a HT? I still have a lot of hair even though the loss is significant. Hattingen estimated 1,500 grafts via Skype so not a huge area to cover, the camera wasn't close enough for whorls to be noticeable though I assume. 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. I don't have any loss in the crown, or at least any loss that was perceivable to the doctor who looked through my hair.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 17, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2021 This is an interesting question. I don't think I've ever seen a double whirl crown restoration before. I imagine getting the angles right would be extra challenging for the surgeon. 1 Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008 Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013 Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020 My Hair Transplant Journey with Shapiro Medical Group

DrTBarghouthi
Hello and thanks for tagging. A double crown is not considerably different than a single whirl. The main thing is to recognize it and mimic the directions. Yes the directional change might make more the scalp showing rather than the typical cross linking effect. Might need a bit more grafts but if a surgeon is used to crown work, there is not much difference except for the planning part and maybe a bit of more work getting to work with the various directions. 2 1 Dr. Taleb Barghouthi approved and recommended on the Hair Transplant Network. Thank you for your reply Dr. Good to hear that it won't affect things too much. I wear my hair very long so I'm hoping that the way it falls down will help with coverage.
