Regular Member Jnass Posted April 18, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted April 18, 2021 (edited) Some background: Started losing my hair aggressively at 16 had 2 small FUT procedures 12 years ago, one at 17 and one at 18 (I know it wasn't the right choice, but i was desperate at the time and my father didn't know better and wanted to do what was best for me, Dr. didn't help much either since he suggested transplant before starting any medication). After growing older and researching more, have been taking finasteride for 10 years currently 29 and has slowed down my hair loss a lot althuogh was losing ground. Will think about switching to Dutasteride or adding Oral Minoxidil. I used to always hide my hair loss by keeping it long and with a combover but whenever it got wet or some wind moved my hair, significant balding could be seen. After being highly recommended, I decided to get an FUE procedure with Dr. Yeimy Alvarez at my hometown Barranquilla, Colombia. I'm currently living in LA where the same procedure would have cost around 5-6 times as much. The whole process was great, I opted out of general anesthesia so the only pain really was the local anesthesia which wasn't that bad. 3528 grafts were implanted, the hairline was filled with single hair grafts and with more hairs behind it. I thought more of my head was going to be covered but guess I had a lot of balding in the front which was my main concern either ways as can be seen in the wet pics. Will try to get some regrowth behind the transplanted area with oral min. I had PRP the day of the surgery and the package includes 3 more sessions in the next months. I've been going daily for cleanings, laser cap for healing and injections. Overall it has been a great experience and can't wait for the growing to start. Senior Member giegnosiganoe Posted April 18, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2021 That's a lot of loss for someone who's already had 2 hair transplants (at the age of 17 and 18, wow) and has been on finasteride since the age of 19. How many grafts did you get from those first two transplants? Do you have any pictures or can you describe the progression of your loss? Never heard of this doc but the work seems good to me. Regular Member TrialAcc Posted April 18, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted April 18, 2021 Work looks really good to me, I think you're going to be very happy with the end result. The decision to only rebuild the front is 100% the right one, as that will make by and large the most difference in the long-term outlook of your hair. Did they mention how many more grafts you might have for crown work?

First two transplants were less than 1500 each not completely sure how much. I thought with these and finasteride I wasn’t gonna need any transplants in the future but that wasn’t the case. If it weren’t for fin and the previous transplants, think I would be completely bald right now. https://instagram.com/yeimyalvarezmedical?igshid=1a2udbtkrth6n Ig of the doctor 32 minutes ago, TrialAcc said: Work looks really good to me, I think you're going to be very happy with the end result. Yeah I think I’ll eventually have to go in for another FUE, not sure how much I have left but the doctor said I could even do 2 more FUEs down the line if needed. She suggested me to get on oral min and switch from fin to Dut since I’ve been taking fin for a decade already. Let’s see how I’m looking a year from now. Awesome, make sure you keep us updated to see how it turns out. You must have a great donor zone because it sounds like you have another 6k~ grafts available or so and should be able to fill in the rest. So I was just assuming it was 2 equal or slightly smaller FUEs

Regular Member Jnass Posted April 24, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted April 24, 2021 10 days post surgery, scabs have fallen off, shedding hasn’t started yet. Will post again once shedding ends. Overall, everything great so far, finished the daily cleanings yesterday and flying back to LA today. Coming back in early July, near the 3 month mark, for a check up with the Dr and free PRP session included with the transplant. How’s it looking? Regular Member Jnass Posted May 12, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted May 12, 2021 4 weeks post op, almost everything has shedded, long hairs at the front are from the previous 2 HTs that didn’t get much coverage. Starting oral minoxidil soon to get some growth in the thinning areas behind the transplanted area, continue to use finasteride daily. 2 more months till growth starts but wanted to post an update, everything good so far? Regular Member Jnass Posted June 14, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 14, 2021 2 months progress, how’s everything looking? Growth hasn’t started yet, hope it begins in the next 4 weeks. Been taking fin daily as usual and should be getting/starting oral minoxidil next week. Donor area is starting to look decent although previous FUT scars are still a bit noticeable, they should be covered in the next month I believe. Get pimples in the transplanted area every now and then and very little in the donor.

Regular Member Jnass Posted August 11, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted August 11, 2021 (edited) 17 weeks or about 4 months after the HT. Around 1.5 months on oral minoxidil and still taking Fin (for over a decade). Got a prescription for Dut, going to add 0.5mg once a week and then continue fin on the other 6 days. Let me know your thoughts on the progress so far. Most of the long hair is from previous transplants but growth is starting to become noticeable, hopefully a lot of thickening in the hairline over the next months. Still have some gaps in the middle, till what months do new hairs pop out? Edited August 11, 2021 by Jnass

Regular Member Jnass Posted August 19, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted August 19, 2021 (edited) 4 months and 1 week just adding some pictures near the window with sunlight of front and donor area. Results not coming in as fast as others I’ve seen on here, but yeah that varies a lot by person. Scalp can be seen on donor in parts especially on right side where previous fut scars, is there any change expected in donor post the 4 month mark? Might go down the SMP route in the future to hide those scars. Edited August 19, 2021 by Jnass
