facingeast
Hi guys , 28 yo guy from india . Been following this forum for a long time and hoping you can help me out. Been losing hair for about 4 years. Hair line has been receding progressively and I have diffuse thinning all over the top of my scalp. I've taken topical 5% fin and minoxidil for 2 years but did not notice much of a regrowth (have to admit I was not regular) . I've considered getting a transplant and visited a couple of doctors . Both advised getting 2100 - 2700 grafts to cover the front of my scalp. And taking oral fin, min and vitamin supplements for the top and crown area and did not recommend getting a transplant done there. I have decided to get on the oral routine for 6 months to see if it makes any difference, but a bit skeptical about getting the transplant done only on the front. I've read about shock loss affecting diffuse thinners during transplant and want to know if it might become a factor. I also did not find a lot of threads here for people with diffuse thinning like myself. My goal would be to get a good density all over and not just on the front , Is this possible? Attached pictures under direct light , under flash and different angles. Looking for advice on what would be the best option for me. Any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks . Senior Member TorontoMan Posted March 3, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted March 3, 2021 In my opinion, you have extensive hair loss for your age and you should not be considering a hair transplant at this time. My sincere advice is to give yourself a buzz cut and see how it fits on you first. You might be late to the finasteride party, and a hair transplant is likley too limited to give you a great cosmetic benefit.

All their clinics are 2 hrs away by flight , but due to COVID I want to be sure / more informed before traveling. I'm very bad at online consultations so I think it wouldn't be of much use either. Thanks TorontoMan , I've had a completely shaved head for almost the whole of last year. It doesn't look too bad , but I want to hold on to my hair a little bit longer . Am I already too late for fin ? I've seen good results for people who were in my condition . I believe ~2500 grafts would be able to cover the frontal part . Although I'm not sure how it would look overall ? Edited March 3, 2021 by facingeast
Senior Member Britanium Posted March 3, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted March 3, 2021 (edited) Fin will help retain what you have. You do need to make sure it’s regular though. Using up to the 2700 grafts you mentioned would definitely give a massive improvement to the frontal third. Thanks I hope it does , intend to stick to the routine this time and hope there are no adverse sides. I'm losing hair on the sides too so not sure how it would end up looking . Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted March 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted March 3, 2021 I don’t think you’re too late for fin and min. It would definitely help thicken your hair. Now, it won’t return everything, but it’ll be an improvement. Another thing to consider is hair fibers. They work great, specifically on diffuse hair loss. I want to retain my real hair just a bit longer say 5-6 years and then I don't mind shaving it off. Hope fin and min works out meanwhile .

My choice of word for “late” was not smart, in fact if anything what you should be doing is getting on finasteride ASAP and staying on it for at least a few years. There have definitely been some crazy responses especially on diffuse thinners. My Hope for you would be that it increases the density in your crown and lateral humps. As you already likely know, hair transplants are a rather illogical process, where a small amount of hair is available for a large surface. A hair transplant is still definitely possible for you, you need to just manage expectations and understand that donor areas miniaturize as well in some cases. All that being said, you could definitely still win with a conservative approach and fill in your front and move backwards, sometbing thay will let you age into as well. So my apologies for my finasteride comment. Get on finasteride and let it preserve your donor but give it a lot of time, a year is often not enough. If you’re in India, I would consult with eugenix, they’re top for cases like these and they will give you the best advice. They’re good ppl. but I think you need to really consider a lot of high Norwood cases, and see if any of the results you see you will be good with.
