≈1100 grafts Dr. Feriduni

Hi all,

I wanted to post a review of my very recent (I'm post op 2 days as of posting date) of my recent FUE experience.

I'm turning 40 late this year (2017). Always had a higher forehead and gradual maturation of hairline. In general, this never bothered my until the last few years when I started to develop a "W" shape recession (think Nick Cave) - meaning that the forelock region was getting increasing thinner. Receding hairlines never really bothered me, as I would grow my hair slightly longer in the front to mask. But the thinning forelock was really bothering me.

After using natural treatments (saw palmetto, vitamin B complex etc) + minoxidil for approximately three years, the thinning slowed but continued. I decided that I wanted to "get in front" of the situation before it became super obvious to more than just myself and researched procedures for approximately 1 year before deciding to embark on one in late August 2017.

After many long nights lurking on forums and meeting with a few FUE practitioners, I decided upon Dr. Feriduni. To be honest, his attitude and approach during the consultation period (approx 6 month wait + another 5 months pre surgery) was what impressed me the most. In general I was happy with my hair, he saw "zero" miniaturization, and basically said "please don't go lower than here" as we discussed. He understood why I wanted to undergo the procedure but was also very nice about saying that if we did, it needed to be very conservative.

At any rate here are some pictures. I wanted to post and will continue to as I noticed that there aren't many very recent shots of his (and his staff's) work, and even less with photos with people with hair long enough to cover the approach. You all are the experts, so hopefully this work so far looks promising and good. I am quite pleased with the whole experience so far.

A note on his staff and what I've learned. He supervises but does not do the extractions or implantations. That said, you can tell his staff know exactly what and how to execute. He always kept a watchful eye and did all of the incision work himself. I think it's important for people looking at getting procedures done to understand who actually does what. In my mind, having two techs that are experienced and professional apply the donor hair, this reduces the time that the hair is sitting out. My procedure was over in about 4 hours, including prep work and post wash.

Comments (good or bad) and advice for my post-op experience highly appreciated!

Ditto this question...

usually a doc presses a patient not to go too low for fear of both creating a juvenile hairline and using up unnecessary donor supply but with no miniaturization you could've afforded to be more aggressive than that if you so chose without creating a juvenile hair line. Why what his rationale for saying please don't go lower than this if you have everything working in your favor?

Hi - thanks for the messages. I think the biggest part was me saying that I was fine with the mature hairline, fine with the slight recession look, and primarily focused with the front area. Basically he picked up on my cues, and to be honest, when he measured the symmetry of my features it seemed exactly what I wanted and to fit well with my proportions. I've always had a "five head" and I was ok with this as it fit my overall look. Anything lower may have worked, but may have been too aggressive for me, and he was listening to me rather than steering me towards something else. For me I appreciated this.

Let's see how this turns out. So far (four days post-op), I'm quite pleased with everything. A bit of swelling but not much, no pain, and no (knock on wood) lost grafts by me doing something stupid. I'll send pics as things progress.

Fair enough, it sounded as tho the Dr was insisting on the conservative hairline initially but if it was a mutually agreed upon decision that is a completely different scenario. Dr Feriduni does excellent work so I expect nothing less than a stellar result, happy growing!

Completely my steer - he just reinforced it via his support. Will send updates as things progress.

OP I noticed you mentioned you have had some swelling. Did you use the Arnica the doc recommends? I am having FUE with Dr F in a couple of weeks and I noticed it's recommended in the pre op notes they give you. I'm from the UK and Arnica is not "mainstream" as it were. However, I've noticed in France, Germany and other places it is sometimes prescribed by GPs for swelling. I'm just wondering whether I should bother with it or not.

When I say "swelling" I mean extremely little. My wife is a Dr. (anesthesiologist) and she could barely tell. I was given diclofenac for the swelling, and ibuprofen 600 for the pain ( in addition to the antibiotics). But again - whatever swelling I had is gone now (entering post op day 5).

Sorry all. It's now been just over 6 months. I guess there is some time left for results but the honest truth is that I haven't thought about my hair for months. It's a pretty fantastic thing to not agonize about, so I recommend this procedure to anyone on the fence.

Sorry for the bedhead. It's the weekend and I am enjoying it :)
