Regular Member frankdatank Posted April 16, 2017 Regular Member Share Posted April 16, 2017 Hello all, I am at 4 months tomorrow and I am continuing to get some good growth. The donor area is salt and pepper color, more gray than black now... However, the top is still dark. My new hairs are as expected coming in salt and pepper. some even clear. Can I safely color the newly grown hairs? I do not want to risk anything, it is not that important to me. But if it can be done safely 100%? no risk to anything? Thank you. ps, I will start a thread soon.
Senior Member KO Posted April 16, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2017 I don't know about the safety, but FYI having more than one color increases the illusion of density, so you may even prefer the s&p colored hairs. 3382 FUE Lupanzula http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/185463-3382-grafts-lupanzula.html
Senior Member hsrp10 Posted April 17, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2017 I say no just to caution on the safe side, I had issues with Nizoral affecting my results so I'm one that is wary about using anything even potentially harsh near the grafts until about 1 year. What does your surgeon say? If it doesn't bother you terribly I would try to wait it out a bit. I had temple point work done in an area with greys and I'm still holding off with dyeing it until many months have passed. Though the color difference does bother me a bit. go dense or go home Unbiased advice and opinions based on 25 plus years of researching and actual experience with hair loss, hair restoration via both FUT & FUE, SMP, scalp issues including scalp eczema & seborrheic dermatitis and many others HSRP10's favorite FUT surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr Hasson, Dr. Rahal HSRP10's favorite FUE surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Erdogan, Dr. Couto (*indicates actual experience with doctor)
Senior Member JohnCasper Posted April 21, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted April 21, 2017 I would be concerned with putting hair color/dyes on a healing scalp and immature hairs. That's just my thoughts, your doctor may have other ideas. You will start to see plenty of growth at the 4 month mark. I'm sure you and your doctor will make the best decision. Bill - Seemiller
frank, This has been asked previously and we actually have a few blogs/articles published about this on the Hair Transplant Network news site. Long story short, transplanted hair responds to the chemicals in hair dye he same way natural hair does. Thus, it's a good idea to find hair dyes that are the least harsh and damaging for your hair. Also, everything I've ever ready indicates that you shouldn't dye your hair the first few weeks after hair transplant surgery but after that, you should be fine. To be safe, check with your surgeon and always choose hair dyes that are the least harsh for your scalp and hair. Best wishes, Bill

Regular Member Mathe Posted May 15, 2017 Regular Member Share Posted May 15, 2017 4 months and your continuing to get good growth , that's super news but also means you have a lot more growth left to look forward too ! I'd leave the hair dye for a few months yet to get the full picture of your transplant before having a dabble with dye . Better safe than sorry . Senior Member pkipling Posted May 16, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted May 16, 2017 I would defer to your surgeon on this as well. Each surgeon has their own set of rules and guidelines when it comes to these sorts of things, and while I personally think it would be perfectly safe to do this at 4 months post-op (assuming your scalp has healed properly and you had no serious irritation problems), you really just need to follow the doctor's orders. Senior Member aWidowsPeek Posted May 16, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted May 16, 2017 jaswalraj1 nailed it "Yes you can color your hair after 4 months. Be careful and use ammonia and PPD free hair dye." I dyed my hair at about 4 months after both of my Fue transplants and everything is fine.
