Bisanga - 2000 grafts at the 2 year mark

I had a FUE by Dr Bisanga involving approximately 2000 grafts. It was undertaken in early 2015.

Here's an immediate post-surgery photo:

 

Note that the part in the centre front (the forelock) had native hairs there already. Apparently hairs were transplanted there as a prophylactic measure in case I lose native hairs there when older.

 

Other information: Am in my mid 40s, have been on Finasteride for a long long time (over a decade).

This question (to put things into context) concerns a thread I had in another part of this forum regarding getting another transplant for a more aggressive hairline: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/186017-seeking-second-aggressive-fue-transplant.html

 

I'd be more than happy to consider Bisanga again, but my understanding is that Bisanga is conservative by nature, so he might refuse to do further work on me. From what he told me when undertaking the first transplant, he feels that hairlines should be conservative otherwise it might look strange on people like myself in future decades, eg, when I'm in my 60s.

 

My personal view differs. Ronald Reagan for instance had a near perfect hairline and it looked great on him even in his 70s. Further, as my hairloss has stabilised for some time on Finasteride I believe that a more aggressive hairline in my case is feasible.

First off, work was nicely done, great result

 

You could check with the clinic but Dr B advises what is in his opinion is in your best interest but ultimately leaves it in your hands to make the choice as you're an adult. He told me the risks in doing my minor crown work at the same time as my hairline and what he thought my best course of action was but that it was my call and he would do what I wished. I trusted his expertise and didn't do the crown then, now I have to go in and do the 500 grafts into the crown but I am in a better position to do so now with being on fin for a year, and having stabilized some minaturized hairs. It was the right call for me. If you like his work then it is worth contacting them again and relaying your desires. If you're looking for an aggressive doc who will take your hairline further than Dr B might be willing, look at the top Turks, Erdogan and Keser, both do great hairline work and tend to be very aggressive in comparison to their euro counterparts. Keser especially is good at taking nw3s and under to the finish line. I agree with the other thread however, I think the temple points are the way to go and you probably dont need a drop but it's your hair and if you're not happy with it, all the voices saying otherwise don't mean a thing, if it bugs you it bugs you.

Thanks for the information. What about Dr Feriduni? I believe he too is potentially one of the more aggressive doctors. From what I've seen Dr Erdogan gets great results, but appears to use lots of grafts in doing so.

You're best bet is to speak to Spex about Dr Feriduni as he would know him best as his rep but dr Feriduni was among my short list and ultimately a couple factors made me choose Dr Bisanga over him but neither factor was regarding skill as I believe he's a very talented doctor with a great aesthetic eye every bit equal to dr B. I don't think he's necessarily any more aggressive than Dr Bisanga however. I think in the right situation both doctors can dense pack with the best of them and given less than ideal situations both doctors will err on the side of your future hair loss progression and planning for that. It comes down to you if you prefer one docs body of work vs the other but I don't think either one would do something drastically different than each other, ie if Dr B said he would not lower your hairline that Dr Feriduni would jump on it type thing, I think they're both ethically on the same page at least that is the impression I get. You'd be best to run it by both of them to see what each has to say... I mentioned the turkish docs specifically because of their willingness to throw grafts at density with less hesitation about the future so if you want a more receptive option than Dr B or potentially dr F these 2 could be it and both do high end work tho yes, they will probably use more grafts than the Belgians, just seems to be part of the package with them.

Thanks for your comments, definitely food for though. Regarding the issue of graft numbers, clearly a more radical outcome will require more grafts. However, the impression that I get is that for similar outcomes some surgeons use much more grafts than others, which to me isn't the way to go.
