Does Propecia can help retrograde alopecia? I'm norwood 6-7

Hello guys,

I'm 22 years old and already almost norwood 7, i'm wearing hair system and I love it, i have no problem with it and i'm very happy BUT, since I'm shedding a lot at the back\ and sides i know i'm going to lose my temples which means my hairline won't be low as it is now once i lose them.

So my question is, does Propecia can help to save my temples hair\back nap hair?

Even for future hair transplant for my hairline\temples and put hair system behind it, my father and all his 6 brothers are norwood 7 and had retrograde alopecia, some of them have thicker hair at sides and some less, all of them have remaning hair left but it's thin, so my question is, Propecia can help for sides\back hairloss?

My brother which is 18 years old on propecia for 2 years already, he started at 16 (like me, yeah horrible genetics), and it seems that it is actually helping him

I took propecia my self and i thought it didn't help me since i kept see shedding, i guess it probably delayed it or something but it didn't stop my shedding for sure, even after 2 years of taking it.

wonder if for my nap area and sides\temples it can actually help better, here's photos of mine with the hair system, my temples are good but i know it won't last for long and that's why i wanted to ask :

Daniel,

Please allow me to first say that your system looks very good on you and obviously it is of good quality. I wore them myself for 11 years.

As far as low dose finasteride (Propecia) goes, the ongoing clinical trials do not measure any efficiency for the areas that you mentioned. It was mostly conducted for the mid-scalp and crown.

It would however never hurt to discuss your case with a reputable HT specialist or dermatologist experienced in treating MPB to get their opinions.

Daniel,

I wouldn't suspect finasteride would help much in these regions. The question is whether or not it would be worth it to "give it a try." There are a lot of differing opinions about the medication and its side effects. If I were you, I would try to consult with a doctor who has a lot of experience with finasteride patients. Discuss your specific hair loss with this doctor AND undergo an evaluation in person, and really get a good hold on whether or not the potential "pros" outweigh the theoretical "cons" for you.

Glad the system is working out for you by the way. It does look quite good!

Hope this helps.

I agree with Dr. Bloxham, finasteride is a prescription that dramatically alters your hormomes. Personally i dont see the benefit in taking it to preserve nape hair. For one im not sure finasteride is effective in this area, i do believe retro alopecia is a different form of alopecia than androgenic alopecia.

Thus the mechanism in treating it im not sure would be the same, I know alot of men who have AGA also have retro alopecia but i dont believe they are one in the same. I also have retro alopecia, i have used lipogaine in the affected area and it has seemed to help.

I feel that since you have a system that looks good and youre happy with there's no use in taking treatment. If the nape is an issue with the system, consider a full system.

Hello everyone, thanks a lot for your responses,

The problem is that in my country all the Doctors here are awful, I have went to the best one here, they all seems like they don't know what they are talking about, some of them told me I wasn't balding (When i went there 4 years ago), some of them gave me some crappy shampoo that didn't help at all, I acually received more information at this forum than anywhere else.

I want to take propecia not just because of my nap hair, also for my temples and since i'm shedding at my sides, as I have read, for norwood 7 is very common to thin at sides, lose the nape area and the temples, so i believe this is also MPB? Just the latest stage, am I right?

If so, then it's may worth it to try it i guess, and lets say I lose my nape hair and some temples, it won't be a problem to transplant those areas right? I mean for fully temples after i lose them i won't need more than 600 grafts and for my nap, i don't mind if it will be thin since i can always fill it with Toppik, so about 1500 grafts would be ok, but i have never seen hair transplant going to the nap loool.

Would like to hear you, thanks!

Thanks for posting this question. Members have already given you some valuable input. That said, while Propecia (finasteride) has only been tested for the crown I've seen Propecia provide some incredible growth for a select few finasteride consumers. Thus, my answer is that it is possible but unlikely and even if it does help, it will most likely only be a little and won't regrow a full head of hair or anything.

That said, I agree that your piece looks great.

All the Best,

Bill

This is the best hair piece I have ever seen. I want to know where it was ordered and how he makes it look so great. I have decent hair but I would honestly shave my head to have this. It's absolutely perfect. So Daniel I sent you a PM and I am now asking publicly, will you please share with me/us where you bought this? That is better than a hair transplant

Hello man,

Honestly the hair piece is decent, I mean, it is high quality, but it just cost about 200 USD including shipping to my country.

I order it directly from the factory,

There are few kinds of bases, theirs lace, skin : (Injected knots or V-Loop), thats it basically.

Mine is injected thin skin, which is the most natural scalp, just like woman hair, I'm wearing for 10 months already, my entire friends saw me\ family\ people at work and even my ex gf and no1 could tell.

But there's something you should know, if you go to local stylish he won't put afford and won't put attention to things that may bother you, since i'm cutting my own hair since i was 10 i had the skills to do this my self and im sure i do it better than any other stylish since i spend over 8 hours to cut it and make it perfectly and undetectable.

There's also something you should know, you can't expose your hairline, no matter what base, and no matter what people would say, you can't brush it completely back and expect it to be 100000000% natural, it's just impossible and that's why i was thinking to do 2k grafts at the hairline and put system behind it, that way i can have my entire head with hair which is super natural and no1 can tell anything and then with the hairline i can brush it back, but that's the future hehe

Anyways, I have read about hair systems about 3 years ago when i was 18, i did a lot of research and ordered online and started practicing on my dad head before i had brave to shave my head haha, i got to this forum :

Northwest Lace - Discussion Forum

You can read the forum and see, you have all the information you need to know there, my user name is Stavys2, we can keep on touch there and i can help you in what ever you need.

But before you even thinking to do this, you better spend many hours at reading and see if it works for you, the reason i took this is because I knew that since im norwood 6 almost 7, i won't be able to have the hair i lost with hair transplant, and I just wanted full head of hair, not thin or decent amount of hair, that's why i went to this routin, you will see many results at this forum, some are not natural in my opinion and some are really natural, but none of them went as short as I did, most of them atleast 2 inches length, mine is just 17mm lol

Keep in touch!

P.S that's my thread there :

That was a lot of helpful information Daniel which will benefit a lot of people here who are in the advanced classes of hair loss and would like a fuller head of hair...;)
