Senior Member notsosure Posted July 30, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted July 30, 2009 I hear so much conflicting information. What I mean many saying here is that if you're <= 30 years of age and you only have slight recession, go/stay on meds. Otherwise, go for a HT. I then hear other people talking about all of the insane problems they've had with taking "the meds" like not being able to get an erection ever, and having a severe decrease in sperm count... not to mention it's probably killing our kidneys. So... the question is, are "the meds" like propecia something that one should be using or are the side effects just way too common? Thanks much. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted August 1, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted August 1, 2009 They say Meds are effective for a man of any age but works particularly well in younger men. Like any drug, sure there are side effects. The first two weeks I was on finasteride I had some pretty intense pain in that special region. But after two weeks it went away..... not the special region but the pain. It worked like a charm. It has stabilized my loss. Now in the future I will still be losing more hair but not as much as if I weren't on the meds. It's a personal choice. But it works for most who use the meds. Those who experienced side effects can quit the drug and be back to normal within a couple days. I've seen no doctor claim the Propecia is killing our kidneys. That's probably alcohol you are thinking of. Senior Member KeepingWhatIHave Posted August 1, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted August 1, 2009 Propecia was way too much for me to handle... it took me about a week to get back to normal. I, too, had pain in that special region... it also numbed there, and both of my legs, and it was tough to get up and walk. It felt like I was suddenly double my normal body weight. I'm glad I tried it, though. If you're worried about hair loss, I'd say go and try Propecia for a few days and see how badly it affects you. If it's too much, you can always stop it before you take too much of it.
Senior Member mmhce Posted August 1, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted August 1, 2009 not to mention it's probably killing our kidneys. You probably mean the liver. propecia something that one should be using or are the side effects just way too common? Negative side effects are in the minority of cases. take care... Senior Member Uk_lad Posted August 1, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted August 1, 2009 I beilieve they give th 5mg finasterid to people with cancer to shrink the prostate, so theoreticaly cant be that bad, especially as the dose is much lower. One thing i do not get is why its not reccomended to start on a low dose, even skipping days and gradually work your way up. With any other powerful drug, you dont just jump on the maximum dose, you start of low and gradually work your way up0.50mg every other day mught even stabilise your loss! Regular Member hairlust Posted August 1, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted August 1, 2009 Ive been in this quagmire before. I got my first ht and the doctor put on fin. I had horrible bouts of vertigo(spinning sensation) because of it and stopped taking the damn thing. It works for some people, but not for me. so ive had a few ht s to keep up with my hair loss. i guess sometimes we should just realize the truth and be realistic, I am just happy that i will not end up TOtally bald. You could try it out and see if it s not affecting you, and see what happens. otHER wise, accept the situation, and minimize the effects by getting a few hts. juanc 1000 grafts with dr rosanelli 1000 grafts with Dr. Peterson 1600 (july 17) with Dr. Ochs
