I think there's more $$$ to be made in regrowth than a cure. The cynic in me says helping men grow back their hair holds more incentive for big pharma, thus more likely.

Who knows--did we think an arthritic medication would do wonders for alopecia areata sufferers? Maybe they stumble onto something sooner than later....

While the murine (fancy science word, huh?) model may be great for a LOT of mammal experimentation, I think it's history with studying hair loss and hair re-growth is shaky at best. The mouse model just doesn't seem to translate well to alopecia in humans.

If you look back at what scientists have been able to do with hair regrowth studies in mice, it's amazing. You'd think we would have cracked the androgenic alopecia puzzle YEARS ago based upon these studies. They have even regrown and regenerated human follicloids on immune suppressed mice. But each and every time it seems like the model simply doesn't apply well to hair loss and hair regeneration in humans.

I know I'm always the "Debbie Downer" in these futuristic thread, but I'm not certain this would translate into something that could be tested or used in humans suffering from hair loss.
