indeciso88
Hi gents: I am 28 years old and I have been suffering hair loss since 20 years old. I started to take 1 mg finasteride every day 1 year ago and use minoxidil 2% twice per day (each 12 hours). Althoug I think that my hair loss is controlled today, I am reading information and thinking of a FUE surgeon. How many grafts do you think I will need? After seeing several clinics and specialist, my idea is to have 2 sessions via FUE in Spain: 1st: 2000 grafts in the frontal area and 1000 grafts in the mild scalp area. 2nd: 1500 grafts in the back. Do you think it is a good option?
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted February 28, 2016 Administrators Share Posted February 28, 2016 I hope you will go to Dr. Lorenzo in Madrid, personally I would do 2,500 to the frontal third, I wouldn't put any grafts in the back, you still got a lot of hair there and it will most certainly expand in the years to come (even on meds), I'd hate for you to be wasting grafts playing catch up on your crown rather then utilizing them on your midscalp. Other than that you look like a good candidate. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. I do not receive any compensation from any clinic. My comments are not medical advice. You might be needing temple triangle creation as well but can't make that out with current pics. But looking at ones posted 2500_3000 for frontal framing and another 1500 for the rest in second procedure. The count for second procedure will depend greatly on quality of donor. As you are just 28 your hairloss would take a while before it stabilizes ...like in your 35-40 yrs period

I agree with your opinions: I think I will need around 2000 for the frontal and 1000 for the mildscalp. For the 2nd procedure, I am thinking of 1500 for the back (the back is not my priority). @Indi9: I agree with you. As I am only 27 and my hair loss doesn't seem to be stabilized, it would be interesting to see forward (the following 10 years) and take in account that I could need another procedure if my hair loss still carry on. Senior Member thisguy1 Posted February 29, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted February 29, 2016 I don't like distinction "front" and "back". I'd say for you I'd work on hairline thru back top of scalp in session 1 and then worry about crown later. Your crown loss is pretty extensive already at 28 but it is the place minoxidil and fin are supposed to help the most. So maybe you get some improvement in time but either way I'd wait on it. Focus on the front and up that 2000 to 2500 or so, and then see how things pan out in 3 years. You will get a big cosmetic effect from the "front" (which includes the top back of the scalp). This would probably be something like 1500 in the hairline and front third and then 1000 to thicken a decent area of hair in the back two thirds. You have high sides at this point so that is another area the medicines hopefully keep you steady - use the minoxidil on there too - it can work in other places not just scalp. It is also fair to warn that you may have either temporary or permanent shock loss in your top of head where current hairs are as I am sure many of those are miniaturized and on their way out down the road. Jan 2016 - 3800 graft FUT with Dr. Konior NW 5A to 6. Docs whose results I am most consistently impressed with: Konior, Cooley (FUT), Hasson (FUT), Diep (FUE) (yeah I like the zig zag). What are " High Sides "? Do you mean the sideburns have recessed?
Senior Member thisguy1 Posted March 1, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted March 1, 2016 What are " High Sides "? Do you mean the sideburns have recessed? No it means you have a lot of hair still quite high up on each side of your scalp towards the top so you don't have to do much work on what are called lateral humps area. Thanks THISGUY1 for your comments. I agree with you to focus on the front and up (around 2500-300) for a first step. Currently, I use finasteride 1mg and minoxidil 2% (spray). Do you recommend to start using minoxidil 5%? Thanks

Start with foam at least there. (not generic) Some think liquid is more effective but more prone to inflaming sclap, causing itchiness, and its just more work to apply. p.s. I was never on minox until post op so I am giving it a shot now and in throes of shedding in crown. Jan 2016 - 3800 graft FUT with Dr. Konior NW 5A to 6.
