Regular Member Shamrock Posted April 16, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 My background: When I was 19 I had approximately 100-200 mini grafts back in 1996 by Robert Thomas medical associates. I was very naive at that age, and the results were terrible (very pluggy and grafts placed with the wrong orientation). So Ive been covering it up for the last 10 years with a hair system, which honestly makes me feel just as self conscious as a bad HT and I almost always wear a hat. Im attaching some pics and i would appreciate some opinions/ advice about how many grafts would be needed (im wanting the hairline to be approximately where the mini grafts are now). Also do you think the the mini grafts should just be removed? Thanks

Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted April 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 If you got the funds please do yourself a favor and throw away that uncomfortable smelly itchy rug. You still have a ton of hair and those minis can be camouflaged with no problem I would also say 2000 -2500 would be perfect
Senior Member Acrobaz Posted April 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 I agree also. You seem to have good density elsewhere and you also ought to consider propecia to protect your crown. Good luck. 17 Feb 09 - 3,200 FUs by strip surgery (Dr Feller) My Hair Loss Website
Senior Member Cant decide Posted April 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 Everything is relative. I acutally think you have good hair and nothing to be ashamed of at all. One small procedure and you should be good to go. Actually, I think if you shaved down those minis, you would look fine. Senior Member Eman Posted April 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 The native hair in your recipient area looks really good. I agree totally with PGP--throw the rug away and a procedure from one of the top docs you choose from here will set you straight....easy!! Good luck with your research and we are all here to help and look forward to hearing what you decide. My initial HT thread: done and done!! Check it out... Senior Member Abedogg Posted April 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 Doctors like your previous one should be in jail. So amazing they got away with doing garbage work like that. I think the number depends on what you are looking for. 2500 will give you good coverage. Regular Member TooThin Posted April 16, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted April 16, 2009 Shamrock: I suggest you consult with Shapiro Medical Group or Dr. Feller. I am a repair patient and I would estimate that my case was more involved than yours. I had a bunch of mini and micrografts removed from my hairline by Dr. Ron Shapiro. He then did a full strip to densify the front half of my head. I am very pleased with the result and am confident SMG could fix your problem. Dr. Feller started a thread a week or two ago on a new tool he invented for performing Follicular Unit Extraction. I asked him if it was effective for removing ill placed minigrafts in the hairline and he indicated that it was very useful for this purpose. You might want to search the thread. I am confident either of these clinics could remove the plugs that need to be removed and perform follicular unit grafting to fill in the balance of your hairline. Best of luck. Regular Member Shamrock Posted April 17, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted April 17, 2009 Thanks everyone for your feedback. I value it greatly. Im sure a lot of you former repair guys know exactly how I feel and what im going through. Ive had some online consultations with top docs on here and they have validated everyone's opinion of around 2000-2500 FUs. All have said the minis could be camouflaged no problem. I also think I have a surgeon narrowed down now. Oh and I plan on starting propecia or proscar soon, and burning the hairpiece ceremoniously when im completed with repair. I found out the butcher (Robert Thomas) that hacked up my head at 19 yrs old was killed in a car accident a few years back. Now I would never wish death upon anyone... but it may have been karma biting him in the ass for ruining thousands of peoples lives... While waiting on a surgery date, do you think that dermatch, toppik or nanogen would work with my case, or are the mini grafts spread too far apart in the hairline? Senior Member Dewayne Posted April 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2009 I agree with TooThin. I had a couple of rows removed from my hairline as well as the crown. They'll recycle those mini's and trim them into FU's so you won't have to worry about them again. I'd get them out of there. And you can't see any scarring with mine either. 100? Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted April 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2009 If its the same Robert Thomas on Higgins in Rosemont I feel for ya even more. I know what a hack he is . I also had some minis removed by Ron Shapiro AND then he planted around the rest with great success. I dont even think whom ever you choose will have to remove any. They can just plant around them
Senior Member kaounis Posted April 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2009 I think that you have maybe two choices...First you can have the minis removed via fue, and placed into your scar..besides the temple loss that you have, your hair seems to be quite good as is..If you don't feel comfortable with that you can always go back and have 2000 or so garfts to rebuild the temples and hairline... Just a thought from the peanut gallery....
Senior Member M&M Posted April 18, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2009 As unfortunate as your situation is, Shamrock, consider yourself lucky in that you identified the bad work right away and you didn't go back for more work from the same "doctor". I agree with others in that your overall condition looks quite good as your hairloss is concentrated into the temple area. I'm not honestly sure what might be the right number of grafts for you, but I would recommend you try the graft estimator on this site and then do some online consults with some of the recommended (coalition) doctors on this site, such as Shapiro, Feller, H&W, Alexander, Rahal, etc. Good luck and do keep us posted on what you decide to do. ___________________________ 1662 with Dr. Ron Shapiro - Spring 2006 1105 with Dr. Ron Shapiro - Fall 2009 M&M Weblog
