Regular Member rab Posted April 27, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted April 27, 2014 lets say your mom has blonde hair and your dad has dark hair and your hair is blonde, does that mean you got your hair from your mom, or could you have got your dads hair with your moms color? Regular Member rab Posted May 12, 2014 Author Regular Member Share Posted May 12, 2014 i just wanted to know if hair color from your mom or dads side, if they have different color distinguishes what side of the family you got your hair from, or could it be a mix, color from one side and texture, size and shape from the other. lets say you have your dads good or bad hair but with your moms color, so you have both sides of the familys hair, or is it just a straight you have blonde and your mom has blonde and your dad has black so you have your moms side hair, get what im trying to say? Senior Member Spanker Posted May 12, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 12, 2014 I have not heard of a correlation in the MPB gene and pigmentation. It would be a neat study though. 1/2 of you chromosomes come from each parent. I would think it would be a crap shoot for both. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted May 13, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 13, 2014 I'm not aware of any correlation between color (melanocyte/protein building activity in the hair matrix) and androgenic alopecia. I just read up on it a bit, and it seems like the genetic inheritance patterns are still a bit unknown. It appears as if you get a certain hair color gene(s) from one parent and another gene(s) from the other. Some of the hair color genes are dominant while others are recessive. If you receive two recessive genes from your parents, you will express the recessive color. Red hair color is a good example of a double recessive pattern. If you receive one (or two) dominant genes from your parents, you will express the dominant color. Brown coloring is an example of a dominant pattern. Within these patterns there are also an array of colors based upon the amount of melanin (from the melanocyte cells) your follicles create. Hope this helps! Senior Member lorenzo Posted May 13, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 13, 2014 My got screwed. My father side of the family have grey hair but they all have thick hair. My mothers side has no grey but all hairloss and thinning hair. I ended up with thinning hair and grey hair. I could have ended up with thick hair with no grey. Those are the breaks I guess. CarterP
I am having flashbacks on punnett squares from biology! I'm pretty sure it will be a mix of both sides depending on the dominant genes.
