Congratulations! The immediate post-operative image looks very refined. Dr. Haber performs excellent work, and I'm certain your case will be no exception. I look forward to updates!

So my first day was going great, just laying around. My wife was spraying me every 30 minutes. So, as our post op paper states. You should wash your hair with baby shampoo. So she gently padded the area with the shampoo mixed already in her hands, she used her palms. Now the drama, which way to pour the cold cup of water. My Wife, who is in the medical field said that from front to back was the best way, but i really didnt know and wanted to go back to front. She said leaning over would have been bad. So here are the First pics after the shampoo drama. Do any see a difference from the post pics from yesterday.

Thnx for listening to my crazyness, See you 2morrow

So after yesterdays drama about pouring water onto my head. I called Dr. Haber and he quickly called me back. He said that it was okay to pour from front to back. Thnx Doc for putting me at ease. Anyho, today was alot of laying on my back with a couple of pillows to keep me elevated. I watched about 7 hours of Super Soul Sunday on OWN network. Keeping those positive vibes going.. Ok here are day 2 pics. Comments welcomed...:)

So I spent St. Pattys laying on a couch listening to the police sirens, and drunks on the street.haha. Nothing to crazy today. I have been washing the back of my head with baby shampoo. and just spraying the front with the saline every 30 minutes. My instructions say that this is the last day to do that, :)

Looking great "Newbie"! Get used to the redness but it will fade after a while. Looks like your going to have a nice hair line! Careful when you graduate from the sink to the shower, you will feel bits of crusty scabbing come off all over you. Never fear, that is quite normal. You have a lot to look forward to!

So day 5 came to a close. Today was the day that the post op instructions stated that my grafts were ADHERED. So i was very excited about that. My Wife padded the baby shampoo on the grafts and sprayed it clean with water from the bottle I have been using. Now the pics. :)

So i received a letter from Dr. Haber today stating my numbers :

Total grafts : 2998

Single hairs : 882

Double hairs : 1790

Triple hairs : 311

Quad hairs : 15

Total Hairs : 5455

Do any HT vets have any thoughts on this? Is it average. So my pics from today. I zoomed in and i think the scabbing is going well. Any thoughts?:)

Doesn't seem to have any scabs but otherwise do you see them falling during bath or are you (gently) trying to knock them off? May be you can try a gel (aloevera possibly) and see if they are coming off, as hardly anything is visible on the scalp. Ideally they should be off the scalp on Day 10-Day12.

And one (common) question..when the actual HAIR count matters for the final result, why the stress on no. of GRAFTS are more?

Today i had my staples removed and it felt like a pressure release, it felt great. Dr. Haber was not in the office today. I talked to Jessica, who I would consider Dr. Haber's Right hand Women. She said everything looked good. When I got home I noticed a lot of crust on the tips of the grafts, So I got my hands all soapy with Baby Shampoo and gave myself a gentle scalp massage. What do you guys think. You can see all my daily updates if you click on my name..:)

Newbi,

Got your message and I agree with everyone that your recent post-op pics look very good. IMHO, John is absolutely correct regarding the redness and crusting.

The itching is no doubt a result of the saline spraying and also a good sign of healing...;)

IMHO, it is best to first dilute the shampoo with water at room temperature. Cold water will induce the epidermis to contract a little bit which won't hurt you but could add a little bit of shock to your underlying transplanted follicles. That's why I am more an advocate of "room temperature" mixture. If you use straight shampoo, it can at times be thick and not rinse away as clean as a diluted mix. IMHO, it makes no difference which direction that you pour the mixture.

Now when the crusts start coming off, you are undoubtedly going to find that some of them will be stubborn. You should be 11 days post-op today so you should be fine considering you have been using saline spray for three days post-op and a normal healer.

How will you know for sure that the crusts are ready for removal? You simply test some by gently rubbing them with the pad on your finger tip while in the shower and your scalp initially wet for 10 minutes or so. Any surface bleeding after removal can be a sign that you need to wait a few extra days or so. Use some diluted shampoo and pour that over the recipient area first however. This will work wonders in softening the crusts which are in fact dead graft tissue above the scalp line. Remember, scabs and crusts are two different things. Scabs are dried blood and crusts are dead tissue. Dead tissue is more hard in composite than scabs.

If there is no bleeding, the crusts are ready IMHO.

Relax, because most of the transplanted follicles will go dormant and the graft hair will shed. Your follicles will rest for approximately 3-4 months before a new growth cycle commences. That's the norm. Some go longer, some a tad bit shorter because they behave intermittently.

This can be the hardest part for HT patients is waiting for the regrowth! But time alone works wonders.

Best wishes to you and congrats on your recent procedure...;)

Thanks gillenator for your quick response and ideas about crusting. I have been wearing a hat to work the last 2 days and a lot of crusts or scabs have fallen into it. They look like white-ish yellow dots. Here are my pics from today:)

More Crusting. Trying to rub them out.

Are you trying after first softening them in the shower?
