Senior Member KD2020 Posted January 3, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I'm a 50 year old guy that had transplant surgery about 15 years ago at a place near Rockville MD (I don't recall the name). Anyhow, I live in Southeastern VA, and I'm looking at various options. I visited Dr. Epstien (now with Bosley) in VA Beach, and I'm considering other Drs as well. The Bosley price turned out to to be around $14,500, with a 15% discount offered. I also contacted Dr. Konier's office in Chicago, and the pricing was $11,500 for 2000 grafts and $4 per graft for every one after that, resulting in about $14,700 for 2,800 grafts that I'm interested in. I have reached out to Dr. Lindsay's office as well as Dr. Cooper's but have not yet heard back due to the holiday week. Any recommendations for or against any of the Dr.s above? Any other pricing info that would be helpful? Do Dr. Lindsey or Dr. Cooper offer any discounts? The problem with Dr. Konier is he is the furthest away, and would require multiple plane trips to visit. The others I can drive to. Appreciate advice/recommendations! Senior Member Cant decide Posted January 3, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 3, 2014 Consult with as many docs as you can. Having said that, of the ones you mention, Drs. Cooley and Konior are the best as far as I am concerned with Konior impressing me a bit more but Cooley does some real nice work as well. I don't know about his pricing however. I suspect Cooley's price is somewhat better than Konior but I am not sure. Do yourself a favor and forget Epstein. Senior Member KD2020 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 3, 2014 I'm interested in doing this 15 years later because the work I had done previously filled in a lot of areas, but I still had some. I have since lost what I had originally, Prior to the surgery I had 15 years ago, I wore a baseball cap everyday, and never wore one since. It has been extremely beneficial, and I'm glad I did it. 3840 FUT grafts + Acell/PRP with Dr. Jerry Cooley April 17, 2014 And, I'll admit it - I'm trying the Help Hair Shake in my smoothies http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/174893-3-000-fut-my-visit-thursday-april-17-dr-cooley.html

Any firsthand experience with either? There are many examples of both docs work on here. Take a look. Plus, there are many reviews for each doc. Spanker who is a very respected member of this Forum went to Konior and will most likely chime in with some nice information for you as well. Senior Member KD2020 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 Unfortunately I don't recall now. It was a Dr. Near Rockville, MD. After learning more through the forums, I have decided to rule out Dr. Epstein, and I have sent inquiries to Dr. Hasson & Wong, as well as Dr. Ron Shapiro. Dr.s Hasson & Wong appear to have great reputations, and their pricing, if it is in US dollars, is reasonable - Hair Transplant Cost 3840 FUT grafts + Acell/PRP with Dr. Jerry Cooley April 17, 2014 And, I'll admit it - I'm trying the Help Hair Shake in my smoothies http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/174893-3-000-fut-my-visit-thursday-april-17-dr-cooley.html

This is a true asset, and I'm happy I ran across it, along with all of the willing supporters. I can only imagine how difficult it was to find reliable information then. You're lucky that you stumbled upon a place that did good work. I think the internet, and forums like this in particular, have forced the hair restoration industry to elevate their game. There's no reason for anyone to be subjected to the archaic and dishonest practices they had become known for. Still, wading through the research and the hype of certain clinics and surgeons (who shall go unnamed) can be challenging. 3,425 FUT grafts with Dr Raymond Konior - Nov 2013 1,600 FUE grafts with Dr Raymond Konior - Dec 2018
Senior Member TommyLucchese Posted January 5, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Very impressed with your photos, usually people who find this forum after having work done "back in the day" look quite horrible. I'm sure you'll end up with a great result if you choose a good surgeon. 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now. Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018. Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week. Senior Member KD2020 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks! It's a tough decision, trying to determine between a number of them. Dr. Lindsey is the easiest drive, only 3 hours. Dr. Cooley is the next easiest, at about 5.5 hours. Everyone else I'm considering (Dr. Ron Shapiro, Dr. Hasson, Dr. Konier) is a plane trip. Both Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Hasson offer some travel reimbursement. And therein lies part of the dilemma - it's not just one trip for surgery, right? There is follow up care.
