Think I'll be able to save my hair? Pics

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to save it and regrow in the obvious spots, I noticed my hair getting thin on the crown and the sides of the hair line at the front about 3 years ago. I didn't think any products actually worked and I'm finding out now that some do. I honestly didn't think it was going to get this bad and also didn't care that much either till now.

I don't like taking medication, I'm a health nut.. so when I see the horror stories on people having heart complication on propecia I'm thinking oh great, another thing is having to take these all the time and if you stop your hair could potentially lose what ever it has gained, so taking propecia my whole life.. shew I dunno if I could do that. I did see a little bit on the lasercomb, not sure how well that works but throwing my options out there. I may go get a free exam done but thats also another thing, choosing the right doctor because Im sure if I go to a doctor who specializes in a surgery method thats what hes going to push for.

So what do you guys think from what you have seen, do I have a chance to save this and try to grow some back or should I say screw it. There is baldness on my moms side her dad is bald. I post pics with hair wet and somewhat dry. Also I don't know all of the special terms you guys use yet. Thanks for chiming in

Hey man,

You have 3 options

1) Get on the big three (finasteride, rogaine and Ketaconazole). Seriously, people have been on finasteride for long times and it isa safe drug. Obviously, take it under your doctor's monitoring, if you are thst concerned.

- Finasteride - Start with .25mg and work your way upto 1mg.

- Rogaine - Use the foam, you will see people say liquid is the same, but personally I have seen better results with foam anf it is much easier to usr the foam.

- Ketaconazole - Nizoral 2% shampoo, not more than twice a week. Seriously, use it more than twice a week at your own risk. I have seen accelarated shedding and dryness with more than twice a week use.

2) If you are over 25 and you think your hair loss has stablized then you can start researching on getting an HT. You will see plenty of information on this forum and people here are generally very knowledgeable and helpful.

3) If you can shave it and forget about then it is the best option. I cannot do I, but if you can more power to you.

Now, before you start leaning towards the 2nd option, you may want to start on the 1st option, because you may be abke to get 5-10 years on drugs alone. If you do want to skip option 1 and go straight with option 2, you may be put on finasteride to maintain your existing hair.

Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to give you as much information as possible.

Medication can certainly work to regrow your hair but its not a given. YouTube a high chance of keeping what you have but regrowth is less common. With that being said you won't know until you try I'd suggest propecia and rogaine for a year and see the results, and then you can consider transplanting if you want. If you're ok with shaving your head that's certainly another way to go, but you have options.

I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. These opinions are my own.

Thanks, long reply is cool with me, best reply I've had yet asking other sources also. Thanks for your suggestions, its great info to go along with further research. Should I see a doctor who specializes in hair loss or my local doctor? I actually just moved to a new area so I need to get another doctor.

I agree that this would be a reasonable plan of action at this time. You may also want to consider Low Level Laser Therapy.

Hi Dr. Glenn, I'm busy every week all day up till 6pm so its tough getting into a doctors office to receive laser therapy, the only way I would be able to is on a Saturday, if I needed it more often do you recommend any laser-combs or do you only suggest the low level laser therapy offered at a doctors office? thanks for your time

In my opinion, stay away from low level therapy. I wouldn't recommend such a commitment for marginal benefits.

If you are really serious about saving your hair, which I do think you are, then big three is the way to go. You would not know how your body reacts to the medication until you start using them.

Keep one thing in mind, the more you delay the more you lose. It is relatively easy to maintain then regrow. I am not a doctor, I am giving you this information based on personal experience.

These sides happen to a very small number of people. Most of us take the drug without any issue, and in many cases people really do imagine side effects.

Think they are taking a high mg? When people talk about permanent sides it tends to get my attention. I would hate to fall in that category

Well, if that is the case the everything that we eat today has a potential to do permanent damage, we are still eating right? There is no doubt risk associated with it, but you will have to test to see under which category you will fall. If you do see side-effecta stop taking the drug and you will be back to where you were.

Trust me dude, if you are really that paranoid do NOT get on the drugs at all. Psychological aspect is a big thing to consider, sometimes people just assume they have the side-effects.

My advice, get in touch with your doctor and ask him/her how safe is the drug. Do NOT anyone's word for it, including me. You should just use these forums for information purposes and you should always get in touch with a doctor before you get on a drug.

They are taking the same dosage. Basically the medical literature says 5% of people get sides like libido, but some users claim that they got other sides like erectile dysfunction, brain fog, low energy levels, but they are in the minority.

There is no right answer to this, and it's up to you. That's why this is a prescription medication, and you should know the full risk before you take it.

Also keep in mind, that in many cases, people start expecting sides, and end up imagining them...or magnifying something.

I have been on the "big 3" for about 5 months now.

Not only has this regimen stopped my male pattern baldness, but several of my close friends have even said that I have thicker hair these days.

My only regret is not starting the meds sooner.

I experienced minor sides when I started the finasteride, but they soon disappeared after a week or two.

Again, I am not a trained physician. I can only detail my personal experience to date.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

Regimen:

Finasteride (1.25mg): Daily.

Minoxidil (5%): Twice Daily.

Super Biotin (5000mcg) Vitamin Supplement; Daily

Silica Complex; Daily

Think I may jump right into a HT. I won't have the risk of putting any chemicals into my body, no offense to anyone who chooses to, I dont think I have it in me to commit to a pill for ever. I may do minox, nizoral, laser hair therapy, and a ht. More then likely what ever they suggest besides for taking meds orally. I'm still looking into my options and what will work best for me.

I think it will be a mistake to jump into an HT if you have an aggressive pattern of hair loss without taking medications to stabilize it, especially at age 25. But, let us know what you end up doing.

If you do go forward with an HT and not take meds, I would advise you to do FUE only.

I have to agree with KO.

Getting an HT without taking meds can be futile as well as costly.

MPB is unpredictable, ...and what may seem like substantial donor area at present, can, in fact, fall victim to DHT over time.

Ergo your transplanted hair could be lost in addition to donor supply.

So if I don't take propecia/finasteride my chances of stabilizing my hair loss is very slim? What if I don't want to take propecia, thats where am at right now thinking ahead. I see your guys logic, why get ht when i'll just keep losing hair, I understand that.

You could try vitamin supplements - vitamin e and/or b-complex.

Some folk swear by Biotin, folic acid, saw palmetto, etc. I don't know how successful these things are in stabilizing hair loss, but surely better than nothing.

You will need to take experimental chemicals and rub them on your head. Things like RU/CB etc.

Long story short, without fin, you are in a difficult situation.
