Senior Member Dr. Joseph Williams Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 26 year old male, one year post-op having received 1272 grafts harvested from a 16cm long and 1.0cm wide strip from the left posterior scalp. 500 grafts into 0.8, 45 degree, pre-cut blades in the hairline. 772 grafts into 1.2, 45 degree, pre-cut blades in the front. The patient also received PRP injections into the transplanted areas and A-Cell/PPP graft soak prior to placement. He utilized low level laser therapy two to three times per week after his transplant for one year rather than Propecia. The strip scar is NOT an issue as is easily realized upon close examination of this patient wearing a short haircut. He is very satisfied with the result and appreciated the less expensive strip technique over FUE which is considerably more expensive as it requires me to harvest all of the grafts. Senior Member Rootz Posted June 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Thanks for posting this result, but personally I find the density to be disappointing. Maybe the 1272 grafts wasn't enough. Was the patient expecting this level of density, and if so what was his reasoning? Financial obligations? Does he have any plans for another HT? Also is it just me or in the frontal picture 1 year post (edit: third picture) is there still a visible red line where the recipient hair was transplanted? Kind of surprising to me that there would still be visible redness that long after the procedure. Senior Member agenteye Posted June 26, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 26, 2013 I think it is definitely an improvement over where he started, although I agree with Rootz about the density. Hard to say for certain from these photos, but I have a feeling a lot of the illusion of density is being voided by the way the patient styes his hair. With it swept back like that and as short on the sides as it is, I think it makes him more susceptible to a less dense look...... But at any rate, the work looks clean, and I'm sure the patient is happy with the results. The patient got pretty decent coverage with such a small amount of grafts....and the temple recession is definitely not so prominent now! 4737 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 11/16/2012 Daily regimen: 1/4 Proscar (1.25 mg Finasteride), Rogaine Foam (twice daily), 1000 mcg Biotin, 1 combo Vitamin D/Calcium/Magnesium, 1500 mg Glocosamine, 750 mg MSM, 1200 mg Fish Oil, 2000 mg Vitamin C, Super B-Complex, 400 I.U Vitamin E. Senior Member GBU Posted June 26, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 26, 2013 I would be curious to hear what the patient thinks .
Bill - Seemiller
Guys, In my opinion, this result looks nice and natural and just what one would expect for just over 1200 grafts. While density is often highly coveted, dense packing isn't always necessary. Personally, I'd like to see some pictures of the result with the hair pulled back like in the belore pictures. But as far as I can tell, it's a very nice looking result. Best wishes, Bill
Senior Member Rootz Posted June 26, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 26, 2013 Definitely agree about post op pics with the hair pulled back, similiarly to how it the hair was shown pre op. It's hard to say for sure how good the result could have been with only 1272 grafts. But I'm inclined to say even still the density around the temples seems too low for that many grafts, maybe there was a low turn out rate. I would have expected more density to be drawn at the edges of the hairline at least, but from what I can tell the density seems low throughout the general area. Senior Member Nick153452 Posted June 27, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 27, 2013 With correct styling I think that the patient has a good result. However, I agree that a higher density probably should have been used.
