Bout to turn 33. I have pretty thick black hair but could use some help in my temples and a miniaturizing 1 to 2 cm of the hair line depending on what part you are looking at. I had suggestions between 1200-1400 to 2000. From SMG and Dr. Konior. I would love to consider Rahal because he is on a real hot streak but I am not sure I am willing to shave down. I would like to wear my hair back, or up like Aaron123 or orlhair is starting to but the hairline has miniaturized and it is not longer an option. I hate to sound like a baby because I am lucky compared to many but I do spend quite a bit of time obsessing about it, but that kind of comes and goes in spurts. Sometimes I say keep holding out because my hair looks fine when combed right, but some of me also says deal with it now and keep up with the problem.

My question is, for this type of procedure, what is the best way to do this if detectability is high on your list of importance. I can grow my hair pretty long so I don't think that donor area is an issue.

Has anyone broken a procedure into 2 procedures for this reason?

Does 2 strips of 1000 instead of 1 of 2000 reduce the number total grafts available in the future?

I know I am a forum veteran but I need ya'lls input and opinions. And in advance I do appreciate them.

Sounds like you are getting ready to take the big step!! Great for you. IMO I would not do two separate procedures, especially if you only need 2000 grafts at the most. It's hard for me not to recommend Dr Rahal for what you want because he is so good at it!! Obviously I'm kinda bias toward him as well. SMG and Konior are top notch as well. I drove to Chicago to see Konior. He taught me SO MUCH. Unbelievable guy. Anyway, with as much native hair as you have left if you don't shave I don't think you are gonna have to much trouble concealing 2000 grafts. Good luck!

It's really hard to tell exactly how many I need because I have native hair every I am wanting thickened.

That is another problem, I am kind if afraid I would get permanent shock loss and would get results that didn't look got. Ugh!

I need to post some pics for opinions but do most all of my Internet on my phone and I can not edit them.

I will text pics to veteran members who pm me their number if interested or email them from my phone , again to vet members.

With that many grafts I would not split into two sessions. I was able to disguise mine pretty well by growing my hair out before the procedure, even with the recipient area cut short. You would be in great hands with either SMG or Konior. I really like Dr. Rahal's work as well, but there is no doubt that SMG and Konior produce consistently top results also. There are several doctors on the forum that I would not hesitate to have surgey with. I can very confidently recommend SMG.

Surgery - Dr. Ron Shapiro FUT 6/14/11 - 3048 grafts

Surgery - Dr. Ron Shapiro FUE 1/28/13 & 1/29/13 - 1513 grafts

I haven't seen your pics yet (feel free to drop me an email with 'em) but the permanent shock loss of native hair would be somewhat concerning to me especially if you have a hair to begin with. Shaving the recipient zone might lessen the possibility of this.

However, we have seen so many amazing results from SMG, Konior, Rahal with patients that already have a good head of hair. In fact, with the background of native hair the transplanted hair can look even better/fuller.

I'd also not consider doing two small 1K sessions to minimize the appearance of surgery. The post-op is such a pain in the ass to go through even with a smaller session - you might as well get as much as you can since you are going through all the trouble in the first place.

You should check out my pics...I had a decent amount of native hair as Rahal did my frontal third. I really needed my hairline corrected but the hair behind the hairline was native and he just filled in the gaps. I would absolutely NOT break a 2,000 procedure into 2 sessions...that is twice the healing time and having a scar re-opened is not ideal...esp when you can get away with only 1 procedure for now. In regards to shaving down...if you have a lot of native hair which you state...shaving down is a no brainer...reason being is the Dr. needs to see the area he is working on and avoid transection of the hairs. Some dr's can do this without shaving but ideally shaving the area is best esp when there is a lot of native hair. Believe me...I didn't want to shave down and I look pretty odd right now as I am only post op Day 14...but you have to do what you have to do for the overall outcome...remember HT is a journey and you have to expect to have some pain in the beginning to get to your end result of great hair! You have to get passed looking wonderful come day 1 of a HT...it just isn't going to happen. I obviously recommend Dr. Rahal as he is one of the best out there...esp if you need hairline work done.
