Senior Member mattj Posted February 18, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted February 18, 2011 The drugs Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride) don't cause regrowth of hair that has already been lost, but they can slow the pace of hair loss. A lot of guys have had results that disprove this statement. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Senior Member MusoInOz Posted February 22, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted February 22, 2011 I agree with Matt on this one, that statement is not accurate. I am a prime example of re growth utilizing the Minox-Fin combo over the past 9 years. Interesting article otherwise. Senior Member akuma Posted February 26, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) i dont quite agree with the article. It says that "Myth: Bald Guys Have Lots of Testosterone An elevated testosterone level isn't the cause of hair loss. Hair loss results when certain hair follicles on the scalp are highly sensitive to another hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). As a result of this extreme sensitivity, hair follicles shrink and eventually disappear. " I believe testosterone IS connected to hair loss. DHT comes from testosterone conversion. So obviously men with higher testosterone have higher DHT which does accelerate hairloss to some extent. I've known many guys on forums that mention losing more hair after starting intense body building (which produces alot of testosterone for muscle growth). And they noticed that after stopping or slowing down on the heavy weights, their hair loss slows down. Quite a number of people have noticed this. Obviously that applies to men whos hair are sensitive to DHT. For men whos hair aren't sensitive to DHT, they'd not lose more hair if they started intense body building. Senior Member Swimmy Posted February 28, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted February 28, 2011 The clogged pores is only partially true. Calcification occurs in most men with hair loss. This blocks the follicles.
Regular Member crowningglory Posted March 1, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted March 1, 2011 Wow, the 10 hair loss myth busters. Well most of them I really didn't believe but I honestly thought that wearing hats can contribute to hair loss, although not really cause it per se but can help speed up receding hair line. Guess I was wrong then.
