Senior Member Swimmy Posted October 1, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 1, 2010 Just curious how many doctors are doing it in the coalition? How effective is it? It seems a lot of balding men suffer from excessive body hair. Ironic. At least save on that valuable donor area
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted October 2, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 2, 2010 Swimmy, At the moment, I am unsure how many Coalition surgeons utilize body hair transplantation (BHT). I know Dr. Feller has researched the issue in the past, but does not perform BHT in his practice. I recall at one point in time, Coalition surgeons Drs. True and Dorin were also offering and/or researching body hair transplantation, but I cannot find any current information (regarding the procedure) on their website. It seems like a large majority of hair transplant surgeons look at body hair units as something to be utilized after the universal donor region is depleted (if at all). Additionally, they seem to be used most frequently in repair cases (where the donor region is, again, compromised). Senior Member Sean Posted October 2, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 2, 2010 I hope more and more docs consider using body hair as filler hair. I think it's a valuable resource, esp with fue cases, to add density probably. I don't think body hair alone in a portion of the scalp would look good, but I think it can come in handy if used like TOPPIK, sprinkled all over in between other hairs. It can act as a concealer/filler hair. I mean I got plenty of body hair, and if i ever ran out of hair to use, i wouldn't mind using body hair to fill in the gaps. I really think some doctors should research it, and perfect the technique in implanting it. Coalition doctors should consider it, esp those that specialize in FUE. It may be more time consuming then regular FUE, so maybe that's why some doctors avoid it since I believe it's either in 1 or 2 hair grafts. But if it helps someone, and is known to grow, then maybe it's a good thing.
Senior Member RCWest Posted October 2, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 2, 2010 It seems a lot of balding men suffer from excessive body hair. Ironic. See the connection with DHT, which is also responsible for body hair? Some people's body hair gets less noticeable when they take Finasteride cause the DHT is lowered. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Dr. Glenn Charles
I am sure there are several Coalition doctors including myself that perform BHT. I feel that it is somewhat limited and should only be concidered as more of a last resort if the patients scalp donor hair is no longer available. Senior Member Sean Posted October 4, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted October 4, 2010 Dr. Charles, do you have any transplantation photos regarding BHT? I had no idea you did it along with FUE.
