Goodbye to Propecia?

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have been on Propecia for the last ten months or so and the result has been somewhat acceptable. However, it has almost completely killed my libido. I have a hard time getting and maintaining an erection. Repeat performance (sexually) is virtually impossible. It is at a point where my partner has to be very understanding.

I don't want to take Viagra or anything else to fix the erectile problem due to Propecia. Besides Viagra did not help earlier.

So I am saying farewell to Propecia. It is scary to let it go but I don't have a choice.

BTW, I am 38-years old.

Sounds like Propecia wasn't in the cards for you. Sorry to hear about the truly shxtty side effects. I'd quit it too if I was in your shoes.

My effects have been quite the opposite. Increased libido and no problems raising the flagpole.

Just goes to show the VASTLY varied responses you might get while taking Propecia and essentially tampering the hormonal cocktail within you.

I started propecia just over 1 month ago. Almost right away I noticed increased libido. However it seems to have calmed down a bit. Perhaps I wore myself out lol, or perhaps this is a sign of the negative side effects appearing. Too early to tell yet. I can only hope for the best right now.

I have been on Propecia for 4 months now. I used to ejacuate very often. The past one month, I have notifced I rearely ejacuate even though I am very intense and horny. I dont get it. I am assuming it's related to Propecia. I don't have any erection problems. Has anyone seen this before.

I have been off Proscar for around 8 months. It totally affected my sex-drive and also having pain in my left testicle. Ever since I have been of it I feel great!! Where do you draw the line? Would you rather be a baldy that can get it up or have hair but no finish?

I actually think that I more hair (even thought I had a transplant on Feb 1 2002)now that I am using natural herbs.

This is what I am using does anyone have any suggestions?

320 grams of Saw Plametto with Lycopene

120 grams of Grape Seed extract

1000 mg of Salmon Oil

2 cups of green tea

1 tablespoon of Flax Seed Oil

I take this everyday and it actually seems to help my hairloss.

I'm glad we are getting some really candid responses on Proscar/Propecia.

Again, this shows what playing with the hormones in you can do.

My experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Regrown hair, higher sex drive, no ED, better ejac volume. But clearly, others have had effects that are NOT worth the hope of extra hair.

Without libido, I'm hardly a man. I wouldn't give up my manhood for the hopes of a better pelt of hair.

Thankfully for me, I didn't have to. But each case is clearly different.

But here's the beauty of at least trying Propecia/Proscar:

The half life of the drug is a short two weeks. If a DHT blocker like Proscar is giving you problems, get off it, and in a couple of weeks or a month, you'll be back to your old self again.

To me, that is a risk worth taking. And you might not have any side effects.

Avodart is much more risky, IMO, because I believe its half life is 6 months. I consider it a "stronger form" of Proscar, and essentially, it is. It is riskier but has greater potential for benefits. Avodart is also much more expensive than Proscar.

I've considered adding Avodart to my routine. I would just substitute it once in a while for Proscar. I believe the chances are good that I'll respond well to it b/c of my response to the DHT blocker Proscar. But it is still a risk, and I'm hesitant because what I'm on now is working with no side effects.

Just throwing some of my thoughts on this out there.

Propecia ?

I started to thin upon reducing my dose, so I have left my dose at .5 mg daily.

Though I have had no serious side effects, I have noticed the following minor side effects:

1) Slight weight gain, & actually a more lathargicness towards working out, & perhaps a bit less work-out intensity, just not quite my pre-Propecia vigor.

2) Reduction in waking up pointing upward..lol, but by the same token have had no probelms with performance.

3) Slightly more frequent muscle ache's.

None of these side effects I consider Huge issues or major trouble.

However I do fully understand side effetcs others can have while on the drug - They are real.

And of course several men have zero side effects and Propecia may be very well tolerated.

I hope my observations may help ! at this point I have chosen to stay the course with .5 Propecia daily.

Good Luck !

  • 8 months later...

I have been on Proscar, cut into 1.25mg units taken daily for about 2 months now. I have notice a very strong increase in sex drive, no ED issues at all, and a increase in volume at ejaculation. Based on what the drug is doing, I would expect this to be the proper side effect since it is inhibiting the breakdown of testosterone (sp?). It's been rather nice to see positive side effects along with what appears to be some thickening of my hair. I started to shed within 2 weeks of starting the treatment, however this is letting up and the thickening appears to be getting under way. Time will tell I suppose.

I've had similar problems guys. I've been using Propecia for 7 months and I'm barely 25 years old. It's hard for me to get an erection. Not impossible, just much harder than it used to be. My libido is very diminished as is my sensitivity...sex with a condom is virtually pointless for me. I started taking Propecia every other day about two weeks ago. I'm starting to feel a little better, but not 100%. I just ordered Minoxodil and some anti-androgens. Has anyone had any luck with topical finasteride or dutasteride? I know you can buy expensive creams and I've heard mixed reviews. I'm really confused ??“ I've responded well to Propecia as far as my hair is concerned (slowed loss, thicker crown) but the libido thing is driving me nuts! I'm willing to pay more for an alternative that doesn't f*ck with my hormones! Thanks guys, this site has been very crucial to me over the past year.

i started on proscar a couple years ago...had some slight erection problems..but found that actually having a naked flight attendant in the same room, cured everything!...I would recommend this solution in a heartbeat..

and yes, it was a female flight attendant, for those of you thinking you're going to come up with some comic response to this...Beatcha!

Andy

You might try the every-other-day routine, and see if you can still get results with Propecia without side effects. It's a possible solution.

It does stay in your system for a long time (days or weeks) so a dose every other day is not out of the question, if you want to try a reduced dose.

I would consider splitting your tabs in half or skipping certain days, if you can stand giving it a try...

Hi guys,

I've been on Propecia for five and a half years. After a week or so of use, I too noticed a marked decrease in libido. I'm not saying I couldn't get it up, just that I was not nearly as horny as I was prior to starting Propecia. Also, my "loads" were much smaller than before. However, since the drug worked well and stopped my hairloss, I was willing to keep using it and sacrifice some horniness. I'd rather be less horny and have hair, than be a bald old horny pervert who can't get laid (heh heh)

I'd say that after about a year of use, my libido started to return to normal. Five years later, it is about how it used to be, but my "loads" are still smaller than pre-Propecia, although it still feels just the same.

All in all, I'm happy with Propecia -- it's the only thing that really works for me.

I have been on Proscar for about three years now. What I can say is that my sex drive went through the roof. It was always high but this made it out of control. After a a few months it settled down but still has remained very high. We all know what it was like when we were 14 and the wind would blow! That is the only side effect I know I had. I have not heard of anything relating to sperm counts. I donot think that there is anything that supports that sperm is destroyed or that it casues them to be damaged with repect to genes etc.
