Regular Member Dr. William Reed Posted August 31, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted August 31, 2009 This case represents the results of one procedure as noted above. The breakdown is 376 1 hair FUGs, 976 2s, 488 3s, and 517 double follicular unit grafts (2 fugs left together to make one graft). My cases are often all single follicular unit grafts but often double follicular unit grafts are a good choice. This would be in cases where the hair is fine, where the color contrast of skin with hair is low, where donor density is high so that the slit size is about the same as with 2 single fugs, if the hair style is planned to be other than short and if a second procedure ensuring a high density end point of hair is planned. The choice has positive economic effects on the patient. The literature overwhelmingly supports higher growth rates with chubbier grafts. All of these factors were present in this patient. Senior Member the B spot Posted September 3, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 3, 2009 I like this result, excellent write up as well. Dr. Reed, did you "weight" the area just above where the patient parts his hair to allow him to comb it over and realize more coverage and density than if you spread all the grafts over the entire balding areas? For patients who have established hairstyles this is a usually a great approach, imho. Regular Member Dr. William Reed Posted September 5, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 5, 2009 Yes, Jason, I agree that some "weighting" of graft density is s good idea and do employ it in people with a fixed hair style. I'm sure you agree that the weighting can't be overdone or the style will drift toward becoming a version of the "combover". Senior Member the B spot Posted September 5, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 5, 2009 Funny Dr. Reed =) Yes, I have seen this employed to the extreme and patients end up with a transplanted comb-over that closely resembled the one they sported pre-op :-/ Generally speaking, using your patient as an example, weighting just enough to handle the "part" so as not to look so thin when parted is perfect imho.
