On page 68 he talks about hair transplants and something he said took the wind out of my sails. I'll quote: " These procedures have declined in popularity-not because the surgeries can't be well done (they can be quite good if performed by a specialist, although nowadays many unqualified docs are getting in on the act). It's because of genetics. After 20 years of so, the newly transplanted hair can thin as well-leaving very visible scarring. Isn't a smooth, shiny scalp more attractive than one that looks like a connect-the-dots workbook"? This is discouraging if it is true. I had the understanding that the hairs from the back of the head were genetically programmed to last a lifetime. It what he describes does happen to me then I feel this was all a very expensive and traumatic procedure for little results. If my head looks like what he described above 20 years from now I'll have to go back to the hairpiece that I so desperately want to ditch now. I hope he is wrong but he seems to be right on a lot of issues. Even if this is the case, in 20 years id like to think transplants will be a thing of the past. (atleast transplants as we know them now) With the amount of work and money getting chucked at hairloss treatments today if they don't have a proven solution in 20 years I'll be pissed haha. Dr. Bernstein was my Dr. so I was glad to hear the positive comment from Dr. Oz that you mentioned. I had my procedure November 10. It went well but, of course, won't know final results for a while. But even if it does occur, it is typically minimal and won't make the scar anymore visible, nor the recipient area to appear much thinner. What he is referring to are extreme cases. Senior Member bllorayne Posted November 26, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 26, 2008 i dont believe dr oz....my real uncle who is settled in west virginia beckley us since 30 long years has had a ht of 3000 grafts about 10 years ago with some local doctor and uptil now he is fine with no signs of thinning.he lols he is 65 plus now with thick transplanted hairs.he only got his hairline developed so he is a bit bald at the crown............so cheers as i have seen a candidate with transplantation in his extreme age..no worries dr oz was talking about some real rare cases.eat well exercise and you will be f9.see u Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When one doesn't care about their looks they have given up and have no will to live. Pepople should always have pride in their personal apperance no matter their age. Senior Member orangehair Posted November 26, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 26, 2008 Dr. Oz may have a point with this but the extent of "thinning" as far as I know would be considered non-cosmetic...i believe as as age the hair caliber decreases, so in the donor area which really has a permanent genetic basis, it wouldn't so much be hair loss but a thinner quality to the hair...if your donor area has been managed with the newer technology i.e. fue/the current fut closures, shouldn't be an issue VP Patient & Media Relations for The Hair Loss Doctors by Robert J. It's a brutal thing to be losing your hair when you are in your 20's or ealry 30's but most if not all of the best surgeons advise patience. Maybe thats what this Oz is talking about. There is a ridiculous amount of 'gotta have it now' activity in the world today. Course on the flipside, Dr. Ozzy has hair. Wonder how 'beautiful' he'd feel if he didn't.
