  1. I'm just wondering how much magnification is needed, and how much more the human eye can discern under that magnification. I remember in the 70s and 80s that stereo equipment companies were promoting lower and lower harmonic distortion (Yamaha at .05% TDH, etc, when the human ear cannot tell the difference below .1% TDH). Are we talking real differences, or just marketing?
  2. It's a pretty good (great) feeling: to walk out of a contemporary transplant session, wait a few months, and know that you don't have to feel self conscious when someone looks at your hairline. It's just a shame that some doctors (Elliot, Straub, Bosley, et al.), don't "fess up" to their mistakes and pay for the repair surgery. But, it's an imperfect world...
  3. One of the many problems with the plugs was the actually timing of procedures. According to the Drs., each procedure needed 3 months recovery time, so the blood flow would accomodate the new grafts. Then, after the 3 months, you went in for another procedure, and so on (and so on, and so on). The tragedy, as you can probably understand, is that the next round of transplants transected the previous round, so you were faced with the law of diminishing returns. I still have a pretty good original forelock, but never achieved my goals in the receding areas on either side. At least, not until I had 1370 units transplanted not too long ago. At this point, I'm not so depressed and disappointed as before, since the old plugs are pretty unnatural looking. I was lucky in that I had fairly "good" plug work done, but at the expense of donor hair that I could have used subsequently. I just thought I'd share a "blast from the past," so you guys can realize how lucky you are to have follicular unit transplants and this forum. bb
  4. You can also get a consultation with Dr. Siporin, who is evaluated on this site. He is located in W. Los Angeles.
  5. You remind me of that "JoDirt" guy: always worrying, while the clock is ticking. Make up your mind and stick with it.
  6. You're not alone. The new techniques have reclaimed a lot of our scalps from the "plug and pay" doctors. b
  7. Something else for him to worry or stress about...
  8. Can transplanted hairs be transplanted? I have no practical need for this, but the question just popped into my mind. Thanks!
  9. Can transplanted hairs be transplanted? I have no practical need for this, but the question just popped into my mind. Thanks!
  10. JO - You worry about more things than anyone on this forum! And, there is a connection to that and hair loss....
  11. Why don't you read Pat's review of Dr. Siporin. That should answer your questions.
  12. Feel free to e-mail me, since I was a patient of Dr. Siporin. I'm quite happy with the results so far. bb
  13. Read "Craigslist," under "women for men." They want a rich Prince Charming who is sensitive, kind to animals, honest, adventurous, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. No wonder none of them are happy!
  14. Several of us on the forum have had work by Dr. Siporin (West L.A.), and we're very pleased. In any case, do your research. bb
  15. Go with your gut. If you don't feel confident and secure in proceeding, just wait until you do. The doctors will still be there, when you're ready. "If you have to think twice whether something is right or wrong, it's probably wrong." bb
  16. Several doctors, recommended on this site, performed this type of surgery with the same promises. "Touch up" was the hook for the supposed natural and advertised look. Fortunately, Pat responded quickly, and those doctors no longer appear on the forum list. I had procedures done in the late 80s to early 90s, and my results weren't terrible, but nowhere close to what was advertised. I had corrective work done, and I'm a happy guy. Thanks to the internet, in general, and this web site, in particular!
  17. Any way you count the grafts, the work doesn't look very good to me.
  18. One morning you wake up, and you start to see the growth. Actually, it's probably the darkening of hair that's been growing for a bit, but the sudden awareness is encouraging. At least, that is the way it's been for me, and I'm a little over 6 months away from my surgery. Patience!
  19. I had 11 procedures with the plug methods, and I was still able to yield 2900 FU grafts. And, the surrounding donor area isthick enough to conceal the past surgeries. It's pretty amazing what these new-fangled methods can produce! bb
  20. You should probably go in for an evaluation, or contact Cathy (310.479.4247) for fee information. Good luck! bb
  21. Check HK500 and LuckyLocs (I think). I had 1350 grafts done by Dr. S 5 months ago. I think that he and his staff are great, his credentials are outstanding, and he really cares about patient results. I am very satisfied, particularly since I'm seeing some very natural results sprouting in my hairline.
  22. What is the "critical" interruption time between starting and stopping Propecia / Finasteride before adverse consequences!
  23. I went to Dr. Siporin, and I was pleased with the entire process. If you feel comfortable with your choice, go with it. HK500 and I are glad we did. You have to temper some of the opinions on this site, as I have learned to do. Dr. Siporin knows what he is doing, has the approval of the founder of this site, and has outstanding credentials. I often grow weary of the hair-obsessed people on this site who are in serious need of finding a life. Go with Siporin; I don't think you'll be disappointed!
  24. Maybe Bosley has cleaned up its (his) act, maybe not; but, the irreparable damage that was done because of criminal business practices will remain as its legacy. I know, personally, that each procedure (I had 2) would leave me satisfied with the results, and I would not need another surgery. Neither case was true. Maybe Bosley should just change its name, start all over with reputable physicians and executives, and stand behinds its claims. Even better, they could go back and resolve the many poor procedures for which they are infamous. $.02, please. bb
