  1. but does wearing a cap or hat or safety helmet effect natural hair growth?

    No.

i wear a flat cap alot and my family and friends say it will make my hair worse is this true?

    No.

also i work with horses so i need to wear a safety helmet alot does this make my hair fall out more than a person who does not wear hats etc?

    No.

My family owns horses and I work in the construction sector.

excessive wearing of caps/hats could cause some loss/thinning due to friction.

Becareful not to confuse the kid, Maxxy.

Men who wore felt hats (fedoras, panamas etc.) back in the 40's and 50's are not worse than us, all things being equal.

Neither construction workers who wear hard hats.

However. extremely tight tourniquets worn for extended periods of time, and restrict blood flow can be detrimental any tissue.

  2. Welcome to this forum encephalon!

Please advise me on the dosage suitable for my age.

Same dosage for every one => 1mg per day

Can the drug cause any long term problems.

The vast majority of persons haven't any complaints. There are a few persons who report that they suffer from long term post treatment afflictions from finasteride. The choice is yours.

I have heard that the drug causes a decrease in the sperm count and hence it is not prescribed to unmarried males or those havent had children yet.

There are studies that indicate sperm level decreases initially on consumption of finasteride, but returns to normal level after about a month of usage. Motility and morphology remains unchanged.

I have also heard that increased sexual activity(masturbation and sexual intercourse) in males causes more testesterone production in the body which subsequently cause higher release of DHT which is responsible for hairfall. Is this true?

This is debatable. Some say it's true, some say it is not. I have not read any scientific studies on this hypothesis.

  3. The same physiological effect that occurs on the atrophic hair on the scalp, occurs to the non-atrophic hair growing in the donor zone. (If you ever took finasteride and minoxidil, you would realize, that hair at the sides and the back, would begin to grow and thicken even more than without the use of medication.)

So, once these hair are transplanted to the top of the scalp, the effect continues, in that these non-atrophic hair, can continue to grow even thicker than without the use of medication.

It is a misconception that non-atrophic hair does not thin.

    RE-READ that.

Non-atrophic hair does thin just as atrophic hair.

Except non-atrophic hair is not suspectible to the deleterious action of DHT, but it does loose mass over time and minoxidil, if not finasteride can aid in maintaining thickeness.

  4. He told me that the side effects are severe and permanent in most cases

Please consult the Coalition doctors on this forum, (about this advice), as well as Coalition doctors from other parts of the world (Europe and Asia) and garner some other information.

    This advice doesn't seem right.

  5. If keeping your hair, getting tons of chicks, staying out late partying with the gal pals is what you mean by taking your own life in your hands - I agree!

    Hair hope,

I think your concept of self beauty needs to be revised, as I have pointed out to other posters.

Pale rider has raised some vital points and directed us to a forum with scientific studies.

I for one, have had minimal side effects on dutasteride and no side effects on finasteride.

  6. After reading a recent post, I found stinging nettles can help block DHT.

Would you post the link so that we can read the article?

I think basically, you can boil the stinging nettles to extract the oils.

The application of the oils topically or ingestion, is another matter.

From my limited understanding stinging nettle is irritant (if not toxic). You might need to check what causes the irritation:

    1. if it is the spores?

    2. or the chemicals in the plant?

    and proceed cautiously.
