For instance, there is "more or less" 36-40% DHT still present in the scalp after finasteride is metabolized (in the scalp of a new patient), and though there is no study to corroborate this (and I doubt there will be any soon), after a while this percentage of DHT presence in the scalp should gradually augment, even with consistent finasteride use.
This is the reason that Dr. Richard Lee promotes the use of azelaic acid in his minoxidil preparations with the claim that it can reduce the remaining analog in the scalp.
-
It's not fair to compare us to this elderly gentleman. Back when he was in his 20's, it probably didn't topical minoxidil and definitely didn't have finasteride; so he is not a suitable comparison.
This however does not negate your argument, which I questioned already on this forum.

Also, the psychological response to a symptom should not be dismissed. As an example; someone experiences erectile dysfunction at the onset of a treatment (not uncommon), panics, and stops the drug. Then focus (or obsess) on the possibility of suffering from that symptom again, only to trigger a psychological version of that same symptom. Common occurrence... ask any sexologist.
Correct. There is certain measure of pschyological effects to all drugs, "placebo" effect being one of them.

Are you related to a John36 by any chance?
LOL...whatever happened to him?

I've attached pics to help
I don't see the photographs.
i think they said finastride(bad spelling) for a year just to be ready for a HT, is this 100% always the case?Yes. You have to go on finasteride and minoxidil and stay on both for the rest of your life.
I live in the greater Pittsburgh area if anyone knows a trusted doctor to consult??Check to see the nearest Coalition doctor. Chances are you may have to do air travel.
but i'm guessing i would need at my first 1 about 1700 grafts? (complete guess),If you are NW3 or NW4 as you say you are (without seeing the pics), you may need about 2500 grafts on the conservative side.
Check the graft calculator, but the amount of grafts that can be extracted also depends on other factors such as scalp laxity, etc.
and would it help that I'd b willing to take min. grafts on my first HT to take me back to say the appearence of a norwood class 1STAY AWAY FROM OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY!!
Anyway though, losing my hair since highschool has been truley horrifying to my self confidence n certain activites, Theres not too many other people that can relate to being 17, but I know this is the place where hopefully someone can understand my pain and fear about getting a HT.I started to lose my hair at 16 too.
Not to worry. Focus on developing your career, and social life. Everything else will follow.

MathU41,
Welcome to the forum.
Please post some pics of your hairloss.
Minoxidil (trade name Rogaine/Regaine) and Finasteride (trade name Propecia) are the only two drugs capable of regrowing hair.
I'd prefer to get a transplant. Instant gratification and all, you know?MPB/AGA is a progressive genetic condition that cannot be solved with an instant gratifying procedure. It is a life long journey, that requires proven medication. You can opt for surgical intervention (after due deliberation/research) if you choose.
-
I thought that there should be at least 4 hours for the Regaine to work without washing/wetting your head
What you are talking about is the greasy feel of the glycol. This is not the alcoholic vehicle that transports the minoxidil micro-crystals. This greasy feeling disappears some hours after application of minoxidil.
Do you think that Regaine can help against thinning on the front part of the head?Yes. It works everywhere.
-
Regaine=Rogaine=Minoxidil
Answers to your questions:
1. Migration of minoxidil into the tissue is sufficient after 30 minutes. You have to apply minoxidil and wash it off directly a few seconds later for it not to be effective. No.
2. Use the 1ml, twice a day as recommended. Using more will not increase hair growth. Smear it around on the bald region, or path your hair 6 ways to get at the scalp.
3. Yes.
-
kevin,
I agree with Bill. You need to consult with a qualified medical professional.
The first questions they will ask you are:
1. How long since you've noticed the problem?
2. What have you done about it?
3. What drugs are you taking?
If you are on finasteride, and judging by the length of time you are/have been on finasteride, they may ask you to quit and observe the changes in your body.
On a side note, alot of erectile dysfunction can be psychological.

not to mention it's probably killing our kidneys.
You probably mean the liver.
propecia something that one should be using or are the side effects just way too common?Negative side effects are in the minority of cases.

Zia,
I vaguely recall one of our members PLEASE GROW PLEASE *NOT* giving a good review of the NUHART Clinic.
I could be wrong.
Please check this out and see, before doing anything.

620farmer620,
Welcome to this community.
Perhaps it's my computer or connection, but I can't see your picture very well.
Would you check this please?
Taking medication and watching for negative side effects is a good idea.

Do you know what is a dic..dic...dic...dictionary?
Did I stutter?
MINIATURIZE, you can replace the "z" with an "s" for an alternate American spelling.
What is the timeline for a strong hair shaft in a hairloss sufferer, before it reaches miniturised phase.Good question.
Over time the terminal scalp hair follicles undergo progressively shorter and shorter cycles involving reduced anagen growth periods.
Although periods of anagen are reduced, catagen and telogen time periods remain the same.
The anagen phase varies from person to person, so, a terminal hair can thin out in a year, or two, if not 6 months.
P.S. I think you mean 3000mg of MSM and not SMS.

nyny12,
Welcome to this community
First things first, please post some pics of your situation.
Secondly PRP, is new technology and there is not a whole lot of data concerning its success.
LLLT, I think is laser therapy (I'm not sure, so someone correct me) and as such is not highly favored and might be scorned by some.
I am scared of propecia because I did have some side effects from taking just saw palmetto (testicular pain) and I am guessing that that might mean that I will probably have side effects from propecia.Try the finasteride and see what happens.
Side effects do go away, unless there are so HUGELY traumatic that people stop taking it.

That's right hdude46, we need some more input and comments on this topic?
-
Does the shock loss start right away for both these products?
Are you talking about from the drug alone, or a combination of the drug following a HT surgery?
Have you had HT surgery, recently?
For the drugs itself:
Not on the first day after, if that's what you mean.
Give it a couple of weeks.
-
sorry if i have offended anyone or anything
Relax....you didn't do anything bad, to offend anyone here.

-
Any more commets?
-
Timmy,
You're fine. Stay on meds. You can do research about HT surgery and re-visit the idea in a few years time.

I believe 100% inhibition is not possible, even with dutasteride.
